天復中，太祖迎駕至岐下，以規權知洽州。 During Tianfu, when the Founder welcomed the emperor to Qixia, he made Gui acting prefect of Qiazhou.

太祖受禪，除右羽林統軍，尋佐劉鄩統兵收潼關，擒劉知浣獻之，乃以為右龍虎統軍兼侍衛指揮使。 At the Liang founding he was made Right Feathered Forest commander; he soon helped Liu Yan recover Tong Pass, captured Liu Zhihuan and presented him, and was then made Right Dragon-Tiger commander and commander of the palace guard.

其後巢軍既敗，讜乃束身歸於太祖，署為左德勝騎軍都將。 After Chao's defeat Dang surrendered to the Founder and was made commander of the Left Victorious Virtue cavalry.

從太祖討蔡賊，頗立軍功。 He followed the Founder against the Cai rebels and won solid merit.
