梁元帝謂其僕射王褒曰：「我未嘗有意用陸為三公，而自稱何也？」 Emperor Yuan of Liang said to his vice director Wang Bao, "I never meant to use Lu as one of the Three Dukes—why does he style himself so?"

褒曰：「彼旣以道術自命，容是先知。」 Bao said, "He has made himself master of occult arts—perhaps he foreknows."

城王為揚州刺史，[2]野王及琅邪王褒並為賓客，王甚愛其才。 The Prince of Xuancheng was inspector of Yangzhou; [2] Gu Yewang and Wang Bao of Langye both served as his retainers, and the prince greatly valued their talents.

野王又好丹青，善圖寫，王於東府起齋，乃令野王畫古賢，命王褒書贊，時人稱為二絕。 Yewang also loved ink and color and was skilled at drawing. The prince built a studio in the eastern mansion, had Yewang paint the ancient worthies and Wang Bao write their praises—men of the time called the pair a double wonder.
