初，正與東海王僧孺友善，及僧孺爲尚書吏部郎，參掌大選，賓友故人莫不傾意，正獨澹然。 Zheng had been close to Wang Sengru of Donghai; when Sengru became Director of Personnel and ran the great selection, friends all courted him—Zheng alone stayed aloof.

及僧孺擯廢之後，正復篤素分，有逾曩日，論者稱焉。 After Sengru fell, Zheng kept their old bond warmer than before, and men praised him.

績時年七歲，主者有受貨，洗改解書，長史王僧孺弗之覺，績見而輒詰之，便卽時首服，衆咸歎其聰警。 Ji was only seven. A clerk had taken a bribe and altered an imperial rescript by washing and rewriting the text. Chief Administrator Wang Sengru had not noticed, but Ji spotted the fraud and questioned it on the spot; the clerk confessed immediately, and everyone marveled at his sharp mind.
