其少也，嘗夢剖其腸胃，以西江水滌之，顧見江中沙石皆為篆籀之文，由是文思益進。 In youth he dreamed his bowels were cut open and washed in the waters of the West River; looking back he saw sand and stones in the river written in seal and clerical script; from this his literary inspiration grew sharper.

乃集其平生所作詩萬餘首為百卷，號《西江集》。 He collected more than ten thousand poems of his lifetime into a hundred juan titled Collected Poems of the West River.
