久之，稍遷諫議大夫，使於吳越。 After some time he was promoted to remonstrance official and sent as envoy to Wu and Yue.

是時，江、淮不通，凡使吳越者皆泛海，而多風波之患。 At that time travel along the Yangtze and Huai was cut off; envoys to Wu and Yue had to go by sea, and many were lost to storms.
