世宗昭德皇后生顯宗、趙王孰輦、越王斜魯。 Shizong's Empress Zhaode gave birth to Xianzong, to Shunian, Prince of Zhao, and to Xielu, Prince of Yue.

俄頃，皇后柩出磐甯宮，顯宗徒跣。 Before long the empress's bier emerged from Panning Palace, and Xianzong went barefoot.

既葬，僅言欲奏其事，顯宗解之曰：「是何足校哉，或傘人誤耳。」 After the burial Jinyan wanted to report the matter, but Xianzong dismissed it, saying: "What is there worth disputing? Perhaps the canopy-bearers simply made a mistake."

永中不悅，顯宗勸之曰：「宗正之職，自親及疏，自近及遠，此親賢之任也。 Yong Zhong took offense, but Xianzong persuaded him: "The Imperial Clan Court's charge runs from the nearest kin outward to the most distant — it is the task of honoring the worthy among one's relatives.

二十四年，世宗幸上京，顯宗居守，並留永中。 In the twenty-fourth year Shizong went to the Upper Capital; Xianzong stayed behind to guard the realm, and Yong Zhong was left behind as well.

顯宗先遣章宗、宣宗奉表問起居於上京，既而遣永中子光祿大夫石古乃奉表。 Xianzong first dispatched Zhangzong and Xuanzong to the Upper Capital with memorials inquiring after the emperor's health; he then sent Yong Zhong's son Shigu Nai, Grand Master of Splendid Happiness, with another memorial.

世宗喜謂豫國公主曰：「皇太子孝德天成，先遣二子，繼遣此子，兄弟之際相友愛如此也。」 Delighted, Shizong told the Princess of Yu: "The crown prince's filial devotion is inborn. He sent his two sons first, then this son — such brotherly affection as this!"

二十五年六月，世宗在天平山好水川清暑，顯宗薨於中都，詔曹王永功視章宗，召永中赴行在。 In the sixth month of the twenty-fifth year, while Shizong was summering at Haoshuichuan on Tianping Mountain, Xianzong died in the Central Capital. An edict ordered Yong Gong, Prince of Cao, to look after Zhangzong and summoned Yong Zhong to the imperial camp.
