五年，檄道員徐榮勦賊黟縣、石埭，戰頗利，賊眾大至，徽勇潰走，榮眾寡不敵，遂戰歿。 In 1855 he ordered circuit intendant Xu Rong to fight rebels in Yi and Shitai with early success; rebel numbers surged, Huizhou militia broke, and outnumbered, Rong fell in battle.
