九月，宣宗即位，邊吏奏：「高麗牒稱，嗣子未起複，不可以凶服迎吉詔，又不可以草土名銜署表。」 In the ninth month, when Xuanzong ascended the throne, border officials reported, "Goryeo's dispatch states that the heir has not yet resumed official duties during mourning. He cannot receive an auspicious edict in mourning garb or sign a memorial using a mourner's title."

明年，宣宗遷汴，遼東道路不通，興定三年，遼東行省奏高麗複有奉表朝貢之意，宰臣奏：「可令行省受其表章，其朝貢之禮俟他日徐議。」 The next year Xuanzong moved the capital to Bian and Liaodong routes were cut. In Xingding 3 the Liaodong Branch Secretariat reported renewed Goryeo interest in tribute. Ministers proposed, "The Branch Secretariat may be ordered to receive their documents; the ceremonies of tribute presentation may be discussed slowly on another day."

宣宗以為然，乃遣使撫諭高麗，終以道路不通，未遑迎迓，詔行省且羈縻勿絕其好，然自是不復通問矣。 Xuanzong agreed and sent envoys to Goryeo, but impassable roads prevented a full reception. He ordered the Branch Secretariat to maintain ties without severing relations—but from then on regular contact ceased.
