時粵匪由江西回竄湖北，青麟按試德安，聞警停試，督率知府易容之募鄉勇籌防守，府城獲全。 When Taiping forces from Jiangxi swept back into Hubei, Qing Lin was holding examinations at De'an. He halted the tests at the first alarm, worked with prefect Yi Rongzhi to raise local militia, and kept the prefectural city intact.
