至順元年，詔世延與虞集等纂修《皇朝經世大典》，世延屢奏：「臣衰老，乞解中書政務，專意纂修。」 In the first Zhishun year he was ordered, with Yu Ji and others, to compile the "Imperial Institutions for Governing the Age." Shiyan repeatedly asked to be relieved of Secretariat duties to devote himself to the work alone.
