徐桐剛毅趙舒翹啟秀英年裕祿毓賢。 Xu Tong; Gang Yi; Zhao Shuqiao; Qi Xiu; Ying Nian; Yu Lu; Yu Xian.

居無何，毓賢撫山東，縱匪，匪散入河間、深、冀，而裕祿承風指，忽主撫。 Soon Yu Xian governed Shandong and indulged the Boxers; they spread into Hejian, Shenzhou, and Jizhou, and Yu Lu suddenly turned to appeasement.

已而毓賢去，世凱代之，自興兵疾擊，以故匪不敢近山東，而紛紛入畿疆矣。 Yu Xian departed and Yuan Shikai replaced him, striking hard so the Boxers avoided Shandong but flooded the capital region.

廷議以毓賢官魯久，諳河務，擢代之。 The court judged Yu Xian's long service in Shandong and knowledge of river works qualified him, and appointed him in Li's place.

毓賢，字佐臣，內務府正黃旗漢軍。 Yu Xian, whose style was Zuochen, served in the Imperial Household Department as a member of the Plain Yellow Banner Han Chinese.

毓賢令知府盧昌詒按問，匪擊殺官軍數十人，自稱義和拳。 Yu Xian ordered Prefect Lu Changyi to investigate; the rebels killed dozens of government troops and proclaimed themselves the Boxer militia.

毓賢為更名曰「團」，團建旗幟，皆署「毓」字。 Yu Xian rechristened them "militia"; their banners all bore the character for his surname.

匪浸熾，法使詰總署，乃徵還。 As the movement spread, the French minister protested to the Zongli Yamen, and Yu Xian was recalled to Beijing.

平陽府縣上書言匪事，毓賢痛斥之，匪益熾。 Local officials reported on the Boxers; he rebuked them harshly, and the movement grew stronger.

毓賢更命製鋼刀數百，賜拳童令演習，其酋出入撫署，款若上賓。 He ordered hundreds of steel blades forged for young boxers to practice with; rebel leaders came and went at his yamen, entertained like honored guests.

居無何，朝旨申命保教民，毓賢陽遵旨，行下各縣文書稠疊，教士咸感悅。 Soon the court again ordered protection of Christians; Yu Xian ostensibly complied, flooding the counties with reassuring documents, and the missionaries were reassured.
