宇文化及以為歷陽太守，不受。 Yuwen Huaji appointed him administrator of Liyang, but he refused the post.

宇文化及至山東，遣使招藝，藝曰：「我隋舊臣，今大行顛覆，義不辱於賊。」 When Yuwen Huaji reached Shandong he sent envoys to win Luo Yi over. Luo Yi replied, "I am a loyal servant of the Sui. The dynasty lies in ruins—I will not endure insult from a rebel."
