懷祥於二十年適署定海篆，分募鄉勇，為死守計，總兵張朝發撤之。 In the twentieth year Huaixiang happened to be acting magistrate of Dinghai; he recruited local militia in detachments and prepared to hold the city to the death, but regional commander Zhang Chaofa ordered them withdrawn.
