賊陷湘潭，邀擊靖港，又敗，國籓憤投水，幕下士章壽麟掖起之，得不死。 The rebels seized Xiangtan; he met them at Jinggang and was beaten again. In despair Guofan threw himself into the river, but Zhang Shoulin, a member of his staff, pulled him out and saved his life.
