聞張文禮弑王鎔，誌復主讎，雪泣請行。 When he heard that Zhang Wenli had murdered Wang Rong, he vowed to avenge his lord, wept aloud, and begged to march.

兵及恒陽，文禮執其母妻洎兒女十口誘之，不回，攻城日急。 When the army reached Hengyang, Wenli seized his mother, wife, and children—ten persons in all—to lure him back, but he would not turn aside, and the siege pressed harder day by day.

文禮忿之，鹹割鼻斷腕，不絕於膚，放至軍門，觀者皆不忍正視。 Wenli in his rage had them mutilated, noses cut and wrists severed, wound upon wound, then sent them to the camp gate. The onlookers could not bear to meet their eyes.
