少事鎮州為張文禮參軍。 As a youth he served in Zhenzhou as an aide to Zhang Wenli.

唐莊宗討張文禮，允脫身降，莊宗系之獄，文禮敗，乃出之為魏州功曹。 When Emperor Zhuangzong of Tang campaigned against Zhang Wenli, Yun slipped away to surrender; Zhuangzong imprisoned him, but after Wenli's defeat released him and appointed him merit officer of Weizhou.
