〈（《五代會要》：天成三年十二月，史館奏：「據左補闕張昭遠狀：『嘗讀國書，伏見懿祖昭烈皇帝自元和之初，獻祖文皇帝於太和之際，立功王室，陳力國朝。 (The Five Dynasties Essentials says in the twelfth month of Tiancheng 3 the historiography office cited Zhang Zhaoyuan: "Having read the state histories, I found the honored and offering ancestors had served the Tang from Yuanhe and Taihe onward.

史官張昭遠等以新修獻祖、懿祖、太祖《紀年錄》共二十卷、《莊宗實錄》三十卷上之，賜器帛有差。 Historiographers Zhang Zhaoyuan and others presented the new 《Chronicle Records》 of the exalted and illustrious and martial ancestors in twenty juan and the 《Veritable Record》 of Zhuangzong in thirty juan; vessels and silks were graded by rank.

世宗以張昭遠好古直，甚重之，因問曰：「朕欲一賢相，卿試為言朝廷誰可。」 Shizong greatly valued Zhang Zhaoyuan for his love of antiquity and upright character and asked: "I want a worthy grand councilor. Tell me who in court will serve."

昭遠對曰：「以臣所見，莫若李濤。」 Zhaoyuan replied: "In my view, none is better than Li Tao."

世宗常薄濤之為人，聞昭遠之舉甚驚，曰：「李濤本非重厚，朕以為無大臣體，卿首舉此何也？」 Shizong had always disdained Tao's character; hearing the recommendation he was surprised and said: "Li Tao is not grave by nature; I consider him without the bearing of a great minister. Why recommend him first?"

昭遠曰：「陛下所聞止名行，曾不問才略如何耳。 Zhaoyuan said: "What Your Majesty has heard concerns only reputation and conduct; you have never asked about his talent and strategy.
