On yisi in the second month Wang Yanqiu reported recovering Ding on the third, taking Wang Du's head and capturing over two thousand Khitan including Tuonuo alive. After congratulations Mingzong ordered the court to return to the Eastern Capital on the twenty-fourth. On xinhai Wang Yanqiu of Song became Yan commissioner with attendant-in-chief rank; Li Congmin of Cang became Ding commissioner; and Zhang Qianzhao of Zheng became Cang commissioner; Zhao Dejun of Youzhou received attendant-in-chief rank. On yimao Zhao Jingyi acted as regent at Bian. On bingchen Xing reported the false heir Li Jitao from Ding had been executed. On xinyou Mingzong at the Xian'an Tower received Ding captives, proclaimed the victory bulletin, and offered Wang Du's head at the Grand Shrine. Wang Du's four sons and brother and the Tu Nei father and son were dismembered in the market. (The 《Five Dynasties Essentials》 says War at the Secretariat proclaimed the bulletin at the tower; when it ended Zhang Wenbao of Punishments asked that Wang Du's head be given to the proper office." Judicial review director Xiao Xifu took it out and offered it at the suburban altars; Wang Du's sons and Tangut generals were dismembered at Kaifeng Bridge.)〉 The bulletin read like an edict, a scribe's mistake that critics mocked. Zhao Jingyi died and was posthumously made grand mentor. Zhao Feng acted as regent at Bian. On jiazi Mingzong left Bian. On bingyin he reached Zheng. Retired left vice director Zheng Jue received two hundred thousand cash. On dingmao Cui Xie died and was posthumously made right vice director. Li Qi, Eastern Capital regent and crown prince junior tutor, welcomed him at Yanshi. Li Qi's welcome memorial called the Khitan a "villain faction" and Zhending a "rebel city." Mingzong fined Li Qi one month's salary for calling the Khitan villains and Zhending a rebel city. 」On gengwu Mingzong arrived from Bian.

On renchen the secretariat asked that ministers on leave for family visits be given tea and medicine. 」Approved. On yiwei Fu Xi of Yan became Bian commissioner. On bingshen Mingzong remitted extra levies in Yedu, You, Zhen, Cang, Xing, Yi, and Ding beyond regular tax after the Wang Du campaign's transport burden.

On the gengzi new moon of the fourth month iron pewter coin was banned. On renyin the Guangshou Hall was rebuilt; when offices asked for lacquer and gold Mingzong said it had been burned and must be restored grandly but not lavishly. 」Hunan reported defeating Jingnan rebels at Shishou. Mingzong ordered border horse markets and barred tribes from coming straight to court. Dangxiang tribes had brought all horses to court for set prices, but lodging and gifts made the cost enormous. The accounting office called it a drain and ended the practice. On renzi Prince Congrong of Beijing and Hedong became Henan intendant judging the Six Armies; Prince Conghou of Henan became Beijing regent; Zhao Yanshou of Heyang became Song commissioner; and Kang Yicheng of the palace guard and Zhennan became Heyang commissioner. On gengshen Wang Jianli and Kong Xun were recalled for taking secretariat clerks to their circuits. On renxu Zhao Dejun of Youzhou became northern campaign commissioner and Fan Yanguang of Zhen inspector grand mentor. On wuchen the secretariat asked that on the fifth-month first all capital officials of ninth rank and up and tribute envoys follow the Zhenyuan 7 audience rule permanently. 」Approved.

The secretariat said the sacrifices court had set the Young Emperor's posthumous name Shaoxuan Guanglie Filial and temple name Jing. Since the Young Emperor was not in the temple, it asked to drop the temple name and use only Shaoxuan Guanglie Filial. 」Approved. On renchen Chen Gao became Wuxing commissioner and Zhai Zhang Weisai commissioner. On renchen Cui Juyin moved from acting to full right secretariat vice director. On gengwu in the seventh month Zhang Bo, former Luoyang regent's aide, became imperial granaries director. Suizhou presented auspicious grain with nine ears on one stalk. On renwu Xu Guangyi became censor-in-chief. The historiography office asked to title Zhuangzong's reign Veritable Records and the three ancestors Chronological Records. 」Approved. (The 《Five Dynasties Essentials》 says in the twelfth month of Tiancheng 3 the historiography office cited Zhang Zhaoyuan: he had read the state histories and found the honored and offering ancestors had served the Tang from Yuanhe and Taihe onward. The founding martial emperor after Xiantong had repeatedly saved the capital and won great merit with three commission changes. Zhuangzong had pacified the realm; without compilation their deeds would be lost. He asked to compile Veritable Records of the founding ancestor and Zhuangzong with the office."』 」In the seventh month of year 4 Zhao Feng reported compiling the four emperors' records from the sixth month onward. Titles had to fit each subject. Reigning emperors' acts were Veritable Records; posthumously titled ancestors could only be Chronological Records. On dingyou in the eighth month Lu Ruan, grand court corrector, said: "Spring and autumn sacrifices reach Confucius, yet the Martial Completion King has long lacked regular rites; I ask that worship be restored." Approved. On wuxu the Secretariat said: "Crown Prince Junior Tutor Li Qi's spirit-way stele for Huo Yanwei confounds true and false and merit and name; we ask that it be rewritten." Approved. Qi had been a Liang chancellor who cherished old favor and, narrating Yanwei's Liang service, avoided naming false Liang—hence the fault. On xinchou an edict said: "Since the turmoil, captives taken by armies under Heaven, when owners can be identified, must be returned. Yang Renju, former magistrate of Qinghe and Duke of E with three thousand fief households, became Secretariat aide. On jiwei King Jian of Goryeo sent envoys with local tribute. An edict said: "By precedent, commissioners with concurrent grand councilor, palace attendant, or secretariat director titles listed them on edict slips with 'commissioner' written to the side. Qian Liu is marshal-in-chief and imperial father, unlike commissioners; Ma Yin holds grand preceptor and master of writing, a southern rank unfit for edict tails—hereafter omit both from edict slips." On yimao Tangut chieftains presented tribute. On jiazi Mingzong visited Golden Truth Abbey, changed the bestowed title to Great Master Jianfa, and bestowed purple on the nun Zhiyuan as Great Master Yuanhui—Lady Chen, consort of Martial Emperor. On dingmao in the ninth month the Secretariat said: "The Imperial Clan Court reports Illustrious Ancestor Yongxing, Exalted Ancestor Changning, and Martial Ancestor Establishing the Utmost in Yanmen, Dai, while the four posthumous temples stand in Jincheng, Ying. Earlier Senior General Wu Zhaoyu had gone to the two Zhes, divulged court affairs to Wu men, called Liu "Your Highness" and himself "your subject," and bowed and prostrated on meeting him. Deputy envoy Liu Mei reported it fully on return; Liu's titles were cut and he was ordered to retire. Wu Zhaoyu went to the Censorate and soon was ordered to kill himself. Later an envoy from Zhe said Zhaoyu had never treated Liu as sovereign and Mei had framed him; many thought it unjust. On yiwei an edict ordered every circuit to investigate and arrest two-Zhe tribute envoys.
