以今上為宋州節度使，依前檢校太尉、殿前都點檢，進封開國侯； The present sovereign was made Songzhou commissioner, kept acting Grand Marshal and Director of the Palace Front, and was advanced to Marquis Who Opens the State;

詔今上率兵北征。 The court ordered the present sovereign to lead a northern campaign.

未曙，軍變，將士大噪呼萬歲，擐甲將刃，推戴今上升大位，扶策升馬，擁迫南行。 Before dawn the army mutinied; troops shouted "Long live the emperor!", donned armor and drew swords, and pressed the present sovereign onto the throne; they helped him mount and crowded him south.

咨爾歸德軍節度使、殿前都點檢趙， I summon you, Zhao, military commissioner of the Guide Army and director of the Palace Front,

今上於是詣崇元殿受命，百官朝賀而退。 The present sovereign then went to the Hall of Exalted Origin to receive the mandate; the officials offered congratulations and withdrew.

今上聞之震慟，發哀成服於便殿，百僚進名奉慰，尋遣中使監護其喪。 The present sovereign was shaken with grief; he donned mourning in the side hall, officials offered condolences, and soon a palace envoy was sent to oversee the funeral.
