趙起，字興洛，廣平人也。 Zhao Qi, styled Xingluo, came from Guangping.

起性沈謹有幹用。 Qi was deep, careful, and capable.

義旗建，高祖以段榮為定州刺史，以起為榮典簽，除奉車都尉。 When the righteous standard was raised Gao Huan made Duan Rong inspector of Ding and made Qi Rong's secretariat chief; Qi was appointed cavalier attendant for the carriage.

世宗嗣事，出為建州刺史，累遷侍中。 When Gao Cheng succeeded Qi was sent out as inspector of Jian and rose repeatedly to palace attendant.

起，高祖世頻為相府騎兵二局，典知兵馬十有餘年。 Across Gao Huan's generation Qi repeatedly held the two cavalry bureaus of the chancellor's office and managed horses and troops for more than ten years.

至顯祖卽阼之後，起罷州還闕，雖歷位九卿、侍中，常以本官監兵馬，出內驅使，居腹心之寄，與二張相亞。 After Gao Yang took the throne Qi left the provinces and returned to court. Though he held ranks of the nine ministers and palace attendant, he always kept his original post supervising troops, going in and out at command, trusted at the heart of power — second only to the two Zhangs.

贊曰：纂、亮、耀、起，徐遠、纮、峻，奉日高升，淩風遠振。 Praise says: Zuan, Liang, Yao, Qi, Xu Yuan, Hong, Jun — they rose with the sun and shook the wind from afar.
