夜半，傳呼壁外繼元降，太祖令衛士擐甲，將開壁門，八作使趙遂曰：“受降如受敵，詎可中夜輕出？” At midnight voices outside the ramparts shouted that Jiyuan was surrendering. Taizu ordered his guards to arm and was about to open the gate when Works commissioner Zhao Sui said, "Taking a surrender is like taking an enemy—how can you go out lightly in the dead of night?"
