少事朱瑄為帳下，瑄敗，歸於梁祖，為四鎮牙校，累典諸軍。 In youth he served Zhu Xuan on his staff. When Xuan fell he entered the Liang Founder's service as an officer of the four commands and rose through repeated army commands.
