史館上言：「所編修莊宗一朝事跡，欲名為實錄，太祖、獻祖、懿祖名為紀年錄。」 The historiography office asked to title Zhuangzong's reign Veritable Records and the three ancestors Chronological Records."

莊宗皇帝終平大憝，奄有中原，倘闕編修，遂成湮墜。 Zhuangzong had pacified the realm; without compilation their deeds would be lost.
