聞燕昭王以子之之亂而齊大敗燕，燕昭王怨齊，未嘗一日而忘報齊也。 Yue Yi heard that King Zhao of Yan, because of the Zi Zhi rebellion, had been greatly defeated by Qi; King Zhao of Yan resented Qi and never for a single day forgot to avenge Qi.

魯人曰：『吾將以十太牢待子之君。』 The men of Lu replied, 'We shall receive your lord with ten sets of the grand sacrifice.'

鄒、魯之臣，生則不得事養，死則不得賻襚，然且欲行天子之禮於鄒、魯，鄒、魯之臣不果納。 The ministers of Zou and Lu had never served King Min in life nor contributed funeral gifts in death, yet he sought to impose the rites of the Son of Heaven upon them—and the ministers of Zou and Lu refused to submit.

是以聖王覺寤，捐子之之心，而能不說於田常之賢； This is why the sage kings, upon awakening, cast aside partiality toward their own kin and refused to be swayed by the schemes of a Tian Chang.
