左宗棠被劾，召對簿，罪不測，祖廕上疏營救，且密薦其能，獄解，乃起獨領一軍。 When Zuo Zongtang was impeached and summoned for a hearing with his punishment uncertain, Zuyin memorialized in his defense and secretly recommended his abilities; the case was resolved, and Zuo was then able to take sole command of an army.
