Rites and Music, Part Four ○ Music and dance for the suburban sacrifice: the civil dance for the descent of the spirits, (The Dance of Honoring Virtue.) To the tune 《Tranquil Heaven》, in six sections.

Circular bells in the Gong mode, three sections. First, await three drumbeats; (One stroke of the bell and one beat of the drum, three times in all; what follows repeats this pattern.) On the first drumbeat, step slightly forward, open the hands, and stand; On the second drumbeat, bring the hands together and step back; On the third drumbeat, turn to face one another and squat. When the three drumbeats are complete, the interludes begin. (Two strokes of the bell and one beat of the drum.)
