In the first year of Shoulong, on jihai day of the first spring month the court went to Huntong River. On gengxu day Southwest Route pacification office memorialized that Basimu had come to invade; Xiao Arudai and others defeated them. On yimao day poor people in Fengsheng Prefecture were relieved. On wuchen day of the second month money was bestowed on poor people of the Left and Right Two Pishi. On guiyou day Goryeo sent envoys with tribute. On yihai day the court halted at Yuer Marsh. On bingwu day of the third month silk was bestowed on poor people of the Northeast Route. On dingmao day of the fourth summer month Wotela memorialized victory over Yedigua. On yihai day Jurchen sent envoys with tribute. On gengyin day meritorious officers of the Northwest Route were recorded. On the yiwei new moon of the fifth month Left yilibi Yelü Tuduo was made tiyin; Nanjing commissioner of the palace Yelü Temuo was made Northern Court great king. On guimao day office was posthumously granted to those killed in battle. On dingsi day the court halted at Teli Ridge. On jisi day of the sixth month, because he administered Xi Six Divisions great king affairs Huilibu was made great king of that division; acting associate administrator of affairs Zhao Xiaoyan was made Khitan mobile palace deployment director; hunting-grounds director Saba, for merit against Zubu, was promoted Defender of the State grand general. On guisi day Zubu chief Tuliudi and Tumuge came with tribute. On gengzi day of the seventh autumn month Zubu chief Mengdasi and others came with tribute. On guichou day the court hunted at Sha Ridge. On jiayin day the eight divisions of Poli came to submit and presented local goods. On yimao day Wotela memorialized victory over Mogusi. On jiayin day of the ninth month sacrifice was made at Muye Mountain. On bingchen day an edict ordered Western Capital artillerymen and crossbowmen to train Northwest Route Han troops. On jiazi day of the tenth winter month the court halted at Ousi Marsh. On jiaxu day Northern Court palace academician Yelü Dabeinu was made Right yilibi. On guiwei day associate administrator of affairs Wang Shiru was made associate privy commissioner; Khitan mobile palace deployment director Zhao Xiaoyan associate administrator of affairs. On renchen day meritorious officers against Zubu were recorded. On bingshen day of the eleventh month Jurchen sent envoys presenting horses. On jihai day supreme commander Wotela was made Northwest Route pacification commissioner and enfeoffed Prince of Qishui Commandery. On jiachen day Xia State presented palm-leaf Buddhist scriptures. On gengshen day Goryeo king Yun fell ill; his uncle Yong was ordered to administer state affairs provisionally. On the guihai new moon of the twelfth month, because he administered Northern Court privy affairs Yelü Asi was made Northern Court privy commissioner. That year advanced scholars Chen Hengfu and one hundred thirty others were released.

In the second year, on jiawu day of the first spring month the court went to spring waters. On guimao day Southwest Route pacification office attacked Basimu and defeated them. On yimao day the court halted at Senisi. On xinyou day cattle were purchased and given to poor people of Wugu, Dilie, and Weiwugu tribes. On guihai day of the second month Damaolibiegu tribe was relieved. On jimao day of the fourth summer month northwest border armies were relieved. On xinyou day of the sixth month the court halted at Salinai. On jiawu day of the seventh autumn month Zubu came with tribute. On bingwu day the court hunted at Red Mountain. On yichou day of the eighth month eight divisions of Poli presented horses. On bingwu day of the ninth month Wugu and Dilie tribes were moved to Wuna River to block the northern frontier pass. On wuchen day of the tenth winter month the court halted at Ousi Marsh. On gengchen day Goryeo sent envoys with tribute. On jiwei day of the twelfth month Wotela attacked Meiliji and defeated them. On renxu day Southern Court chancellor Yelü Teluwo retired. On guihai day Xiao Tabuye was made Southern Court chancellor; Yelü Dabeinu hall front inspector-general. On yihai day Xia State presented Song captives.

In the third year, on dinghai day of the first spring month the court went to spring waters. On renyin day Wugu tribal military commissioner Yelü Chenjianu, for merit, was promoted Minister of the Right. On guimao day the court halted at Twin Mountains. On the bingchen new moon of the second month Nanjing had flood; envoys were dispatched to relieve it. On bingwu day of the intercalary third month Zubu chief Mengsage, Nianbage chief Tugusa, Meiliji chief Huluba, and others requested restoration of former lands, presented local goods, and it was granted. On xinyou day of the third month Prince of Yan Yanxi had a son. On guihai day the name Talu was bestowed. The consort's father Changge was transferred Left Defender of the Gate grand general and still bestowed money for his staff. That spring Goryeo king Yun died. In the fourth summer month Southern Court chancellor Zhao Tingmu went out to administer Xingzhong Prefecture; associate administrator of affairs Niu Wenshu also associate administrator of Privy Council affairs. On guihai day of the fifth month Wotela attacked Zubu and defeated them. On jisi day the court halted at Salinai. On jiashen day of the sixth month an edict abolished presenting fresh goods by relay post in all routes. On bingxu day an edict ordered that wherever the court halted each winter, chancellors and below should build residences without levying corvée on the people. On xinchou day Xia people came to report that Song had seized strategic places; envoys were sent to Song to advise harmony with Xia. On gengxu day Khitan mobile palace deployment director Yelü Wuye was made Southern Court great king. On the renzi new moon of the seventh autumn month the court hunted at Black Ridge. On jihai day of the eighth month Puloumaoduo tribal chief led his people to submit. On yisi day a comet appeared in the west. On renshen day of the ninth month the court halted at Ousi Marsh. On dingchou day Wuding Army military commissioner Liang Yuan was made Khitan mobile palace deployment director. On wuyin day Wotela memorialized victory over Meiliji. On jimao day chieftains of the Five States came with tribute. On gengxu day of the tenth winter month Northwest Route pacification commissioner Wotela was made Southern Court chancellor. On yimao day of the eleventh month Puloumaoduo tribe came with tribute. On wuwu day a carriage was sent to summon Yiwulü Mountain monk Zhida. On jiwei day Central Capital regent Han Zirang was made administrator of Privy Council affairs; associate Southern Court privy commissioner Xiao Yaoshinu administrator of Right yilibi affairs. On dingchou day Northwest Route supreme commander's office memorialized victory over Meiliji.

In the fourth year, on renzi day of the first spring month the court went to Yuer Marsh. On jisi day poor people among Zubu and others were moved south of the mountains. On xinwei day Song sent envoys presenting brocade and silk. On gengwu day of the third month the court visited Chun Prefecture. On bingzi day relevant offices memorialized that the Yellow River had cleared. On xinchou day of the fourth summer month, because of rain, hunting was stopped. On guiyou day of the fifth month Na Ye memorialized victory on the northern border. On jiaxu day the court halted at Salinai. On the wuyin new moon of the sixth month Xia State was attacked by Song and sent envoys seeking aid. On dinghai day Liaoxing Army military commissioner Nieli was made tiyin; former acting tiyin Yelü Guosan Nanjing supreme commander. On jiawu day associate administrator of affairs Niu Wenshu also administered Central Capital regency. On wuwu day of the seventh autumn month the court went to Black Ridge. On the yihai new moon of the tenth winter month the court halted at Ousi Marsh. On jimao day Southern Court chancellor Wotela was also made Khitan mobile palace deployment director, to tutor Prince of Yan Yanxi. On the yisi new moon of the eleventh month administrator of Right yilibi affairs Xiao Yaoshinu and privy council academician Yelü Yan were sent to Song to advise harmony with Xia. On xinyou day Xia again sent envoys seeking aid. On renchen day of the twelfth month the rebirth ritual was performed for Prince of Yan Yanxi; partial amnesty for prisoners within three hundred li.

In the fifth year, on yimao day of the first spring month the court went to Yuer Marsh. On jiyou day an edict ordered Xia State king Li Qianshun to attack Basimu and other tribes. On renxu day of the fifth summer month Yaoshinu and others returned from Song and memorialized that Song had ceased hostilities. On guihai day the court visited Qian Mausoleum. On wuchen day Southern Court chancellor Wotela was also made Northwest Route pacification commissioner and forbidden-army supreme commander. On jisi day the court halted at Yanliu Lake. On jiashen day of the sixth month Xi Six Divisions great king Huilibao was made Khitan mobile palace deployment director; administrator of Right yilibi affairs Xiao Yaoshinu Southern Court palace academician and also administrator of Khitan mobile palace affairs. On yiwei day chieftains of the Five States came to court. On wuxu day Zubu came with tribute. On jihai day commissioner of Xing Sheng Palace Yelü Haojianu was made Right yilibi. On the renyin new moon of the seventh autumn month Tiede chief Tude and others came with tribute. On xinhai day the court went to Dalaogu Mountain. On bingzi day of the intercalary ninth month the court halted at Dulu Marsh. On the jihai new moon of the tenth winter month Goryeo king Yong sent envoys requesting investiture. On dingsi day Wotela memorialized victory over Yedigua. On bingyin day associate regent of Nanjing Xiao Delidi was made Northern Court privy commissioner. On dingmao day Song sent Guo Zhizhang and Cao Ping on a friendly visit. On wuchen day Liaozhou famine was relieved; rent and tax were also remitted for one year. On jiaxu day of the eleventh month Southern and Northern Two Jiu were relieved. On yiyou day, because Song had ceased hostilities, Xia State sent envoys to give thanks. On jiazi day of the twelfth month associate administrator of affairs Zhao Xiaoyan was made Khitan mobile palace deployment director; Khitan mobile palace deployment director Liang Yuan Liaoxing Army military commissioner.

In the sixth year, on guiyou day of the first spring month Southern Court great king Yelü Wuye died. On renwu day retired grand preceptor Tukaiqi was made Xi Six Divisions great king. On dinghai day the court went to spring waters. On xinmao day Wotela brought Mogusi in captivity to present. On bingshen day an edict inquired into the people's hardships. On dingwei day of the second month Wugu tribal military commissioner Chenjianu was made Southern Court great king. On jiyou day Mogusi was dismembered at the market. On guichou day silk was issued to bestow on poor people of the Five Divisions. On xinyou day Song sent envoys announcing the late emperor Xu had died and his younger brother Ji had succeeded; envoys were immediately sent to offer condolences. On jiashen day of the third month the ban on hunting in Shuozhou forests was lifted. On the dingyou new moon of the fourth summer month there was a solar eclipse. On guimao day the court went to Coal Mountain. On renwu day of the fifth month Wugu tribe attacked Chazhala and defeated them. On yiyou day Khitan mobile palace deployment director Zhao Xiaoyan died. On bingxu day the court halted at Nage Marsh. On xinmao day Song sent envoys presenting the late emperor's belongings. On yiwei day Eastern Capital regent Helu Saogu was made tiyin; Southern Court commissioner of the palace Xiao Changge Khitan mobile palace deployment director. On gengzi day of the sixth month envoys were dispatched to congratulate the Song emperor. On xinchou day, because relevant offices had written in documents that the Song emperor had "succeeded to the throne" rather than "ascended the precious throne," an edict stripped office from chancellor Zheng Zhuan and those below; Zhuan was sent out to administer Xingzhong Prefecture, Han Zirang made Chongyi Army military commissioner, censor-in-chief Han Junyi Guangshun Army military commissioner. On guichou day Zubu chiefs came with tribute. On wuwu day envoys were dispatched to decide stalled cases in the Five Capitals. On jiwei day Liaoxing Army military commissioner Liang Yuan was made associate privy commissioner. On gengwu day of the seventh autumn month the court went to Sha Ridge. On renshen day Yedigua and other tribes raided the Northwest Route. In the eighth month Wotela with troops defeated them and sent envoys presenting victory. On guiwei day of the ninth month gazed-sacrifice was made at Muye Mountain. On wuzi day the court halted at Ousi Marsh. On renyin day of the tenth winter month associate privy commissioner Wang Shiru supervised compilation of the national history. On guimao day chieftains of the Five States and various tribes came with tribute. On jiayin day, because Ping Prefecture had famine, its rent and tax were remitted for one year. On renshen day of the eleventh month, because Tianshun Army commoner Tian Shirong's family had lived together three generations, an edict granted him office and ordered one son attendant in the Third-Rank Court. On bingzi day an edict ordered Yiwulü Mountain monk Zhida to set up an altar in the inner hall. On wuzi day Xia State king Li Qianshun sent envoys requesting marriage to an imperial princess. On yiwei day of the twelfth month Jurchen sent envoys with tribute. On jihai day administrator of Right yilibi affairs Haojianu was made Northern Court palace academician. On xinhai day an edict ordered Prince of Yan Yanxi to nominate officers from grand general downward. On gengshen day Tieli came with tribute. Song sent envoys to give thanks. The emperor fell ill. That year Goryeo king Yong's eldest son Hou was enfeoffed Duke of Three Han States. Advanced scholars Kang Bingjian and eighty-seven others were released.

七年春正月壬戌朔，力疾禦清風殿受百官及諸國使賀。 是夜，白氣如練，自天而降。 黑雲起於西北，疾飛有聲。 北有青赤黑白氣，相雜而落。 癸亥，如混同江。 甲戌，上崩於行宮，年七十。 遺詔燕國王延禧嗣位。 六月庚子，上尊謚仁聖大孝文皇帝，廟號道宗。
In the seventh year, on the renxu new moon of the first spring month, though gravely ill the emperor received congratulations from officials and envoys of all states at Qingfeng Hall. That night white vapor like silk descended from heaven. Black clouds rose in the northwest and flew swiftly with sound. To the north green, red, black, and white vapors mixed and fell. On guihai day the court went to Huntong River. On jiaxu day the emperor died at the mobile palace, age seventy. His testamentary edict ordered Prince of Yan Yanxi to succeed. On gengzi day of the sixth month posthumous title Benevolent Sage Great Filial Literary Emperor; temple name Daozong.

贊曰：道宗初即位，求直言，訪治道，勸農興學，救災恤患，粲然可觀。 及夫謗訕之令既行，告訐之賞日重。 群邪並興，讒巧競進。 賊及骨肉，皇基浸危。 眾正淪胥，諸部反側，甲兵之用，無寧歲矣。 一歲而飯僧三十六萬，一日而祝髮三千。 徒勤小惠，蔑計大本，尚足與論治哉？
Appraisal: When Daozong first took the throne he sought frank speech, inquired about governance, encouraged agriculture and learning, relieved disasters and cared for the afflicted — splendid to behold. But when the law on slander was enforced, rewards for informing increased daily. Wicked men arose together; slander and flattery vied to advance. Harm reached even his kin; the imperial foundation gradually grew perilous. Worthies were ruined; all tribes grew restive; use of arms knew no year of peace. In one year he fed thirty-six thousand monks; in one day three thousand took tonsure. He toiled at petty kindness yet scorned the great foundation — hardly fit to discuss good governance?
