◎Imperial Family Table. When the Liao Taizu founded his realm, his younger brothers coveted the throne; he forbearingly harbored them, won them with kindness, and could not bring himself to punish them with death—a dilemma even the sage kings of antiquity found hard to resolve. Magnanimous though he was, his calculations for governing the realm reached far beyond the moment. Down to the end of the Liao, the lines that sprang from the Horizontal Tent and from the Five and Six Courts produced great villains to be sure, but they also yielded a host of founding meritorious servants. Without tabular presentation, their origins and lineages would remain unknown. The 《Imperial Family Table》 has therefore been composed. Imperial Family Table
