福建《禹貢》揚州之域。 元置福建道宣慰使司,治福州路。 屬江浙行中書省。 至正十六年正月改宣慰司爲行中書省。 太祖吳元年十二月平陳友定。 洪武二年五月仍置福建等處行中書省。 七年二月置福州都衛。 與行中書省同治。 八年十月改福州都衛爲福建都指揮使司。 九年六月改行中書省爲承宣布政使司。 領府八,直隸州一,屬縣五十七。 爲裏三千七百九十七。 北至嶺,與浙江界。 西至汀州,與江西界。 南至詔安,與廣東界。 東至海。 距南京二千八百七十二里,京師六千一百三十三里。 洪武二十六年編戶八十一萬五千五百二十七,口三百九十一萬六千八百六。 弘治四年,戶五十萬六千三十九,口二百一十萬六千六十。 萬曆六年,戶五十一萬五千三百七,口一百七十三萬八千七百九十三。
Fujian fell within Yang Province as described in the Tribute of Yu. The Yuan established the Fujian Circuit Pacification Commission with its seat at Fuzhou Route. It was subordinate to the Jiangzhe Branch Secretariat. In the first month of Zhizheng 16 the Pacification Commission was converted into a Branch Secretariat. In the twelfth month of the Taizu Wu year Chen Youding was pacified. In the fifth month of Hongwu 2 the Fujian Branch Secretariat was re-established. In the second month of year 7 the Fuzhou Regional Guard was established. It was co-administered with the Branch Secretariat. In the tenth month of year 8 the Fuzhou Regional Guard was renamed the Fujian Regional Military Commission. In the sixth month of year 9 the Branch Secretariat became the Provincial Administration Commission. It governed eight prefectures, one directly administered prefecture, and fifty-seven counties. Its registered area was 3,797 li. To the north it reached the mountain ranges and bordered Zhejiang. To the west it reached Tingzhou and bordered Jiangxi. To the south it reached Zhao'an and bordered Guangdong. To the east it reached the sea. It lay 2,872 li from Nanjing and 6,133 li from the capital. In the Hongwu 26 registration there were 815,527 households and 3,916,806 persons. In Hongzhi 4 there were 506,039 households and 2,106,060 persons. In Wanli 6 there were 515,307 households and 1,738,793 persons.

Fuzhou Prefecture was the Yuan Fuzhou Route under Fujian Circuit. In the Taizu Wu year it became a prefecture. It governed nine counties:

閩倚。 南有釣台山,亦曰南臺山。 東南有鼓山。 南有方山,一名甘果山,下有官母嶼,有巡檢司。 東南濱海。 南有閩江,亦曰建江,自南平縣流入府界。 東南納羣川之水,至府西曰洪塘江,分二流,南出曰陶江,東出曰南臺江,至鼓山下復合爲一。 又東南有馬頭江,自永福縣流入,曰西峽江,又東有東峽江流合焉,又東南至五虎門,入於海。 東有閩安鎮巡檢司。
Min (seat-attached county). To the south is Diaotai Mountain, also known as Nantai Mountain. To the southeast is Gushan. To the south is Fang Mountain, also called Ganguo Mountain; below it lies Guanmu Islet, which has a patrol office. The southeast borders the sea. To the south is the Min River, also called the Jian River, which enters the prefecture from Nanping County. In the southeast many streams feed in; west of the prefecture this becomes the Hongtang River, which splits into the Tao River to the south and the Nantai River to the east, then reunites below Gushan. Farther southeast the Matou River enters from Yongfu County as the West Gorge River; the East Gorge River joins it farther east, and together they reach Wuhumen and enter the sea. To the east is the Min'an Town patrol office.

侯官倚。 西有旗山,有雪峯山,有建江,又有西禪浦。 西南有陽崎、吳山、鳳岡、澤苗、延澤、仙阪等六浦,皆建江支分,仍合正流入海。 西北有懷安縣,洪武十二年移入郭內,與閩、侯官同治,萬曆八年九月省。 西北有竹崎、又有五縣寨二巡檢司。
Houguan (seat-attached county). To the west are Qishan, Xuefeng Mountain, the Jian River, and Xichan Creek. To the southwest are Yangqi, Wushan, Fenggang, Zemiao, Yanze, Xianban, and five other creeks, all branches of the Jian River that rejoin the main stream before reaching the sea. Huai'an County in the northwest was moved inside the city wall in Hongwu 12 and governed jointly with Min and Houguan; it was abolished in the ninth month of Wanli 8. To the northwest are Zhuqi and the Wuxian Stockade, which has two patrol offices.

長樂府東少南。 東濱海,有海堤。 北有馬頭江。 又東有守禦梅花千戶所,洪武二十一年二月置。 東北有石樑蕉山、東南有松下鎮二巡檢司。 又東有小祉山巡檢司,後移治大祉澳。
Changle lies east and slightly south of the prefecture. To the east it borders the sea and has a sea dike. To the north is the Matou River. Farther east is the Meihua Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the second month of Hongwu 21. To the northeast is Shiliang Jiao Mountain; to the southeast is Songxia Town—two patrol offices. Farther east is the Xiaozhi Mountain patrol office, later moved to Dazhi Bay.

福清府南少東。 元福清州。 洪武二年二月降爲縣。 東南際海,有鹽場,海中有海壇山,又有小練山。 南有龍江,又有逕江。 東南有海口,江皆匯流入海。 又東有鎮東衛,東南有守禦萬安千戶所,俱洪武二十一年二月置。 又有澤郎山、有牛頭門、又南有壁頭山三巡檢司。 又東有海口鎮巡檢司,洪武二十年移於長樂縣之松下鎮。
Fuqing lies south and slightly east of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was Fuqing Prefecture. In the second month of Hongwu 2 it was reduced to a county. The southeast borders the sea and has salt fields; at sea are Haitan Mountain and Xiaolian Mountain. To the south are the Long River and the Jing River. To the southeast is Haikou, where the rivers converge and enter the sea. Farther east is Zhendong Guard; to the southeast is the Wan'an Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the second month of Hongwu 21. It also has Zelang Mountain, Niutou Gate, and Bitou Mountain to the south—three patrol offices. Farther east is the Haikou Town patrol office, moved in Hongwu 20 to Songxia Town in Changle County.

連江府東北。 東北濱海,海中有北茭鎮巡檢司。 南有連江,東入海。 東北有守禦定海千戶所,洪武二十一年二月置。
Lianjiang lies northeast of the prefecture. The northeast borders the sea; at sea is the Beijiao Town patrol office. To the south is the Lian River, which flows east into the sea. To the northeast is the Dinghai Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the second month of Hongwu 21.

羅源府東北。 東濱海。 西有羅川,南流分三派入海。 南有應德鎮。
Luoyuan lies northeast of the prefecture. To the east it borders the sea. To the west is the Luochuan, which flows south in three branches into the sea. To the south is Yingde Town.

古田府西北。 建江在縣南,自南平縣流入,經城南,有大溪流合焉,謂之水口。 又東南逕模天嶺下,江流至此始出險就平,東入閩清縣界。 東有杉洋鎮,出銀坑,有巡檢司,後廢。 又西南有谷口鎮、西北有西溪鎮二巡檢司,尋廢。
Gutian lies northwest of the prefecture. The Jian River lies south of the county, entering from Nanping County and passing south of the city where the Daxi stream joins it at a place called the Water Mouth. Farther southeast, below Motian Ridge, the river leaves the rapids for level ground and flows east into Minqing County. To the east is Shanyang Town, which produced silver from mines and once had a patrol office, later abolished. Farther southwest is Gukou Town; to the northwest is Xixi Town—two patrol offices, soon abolished.

Minqing lies northwest of the prefecture. To the southwest is Damao Mountain. To the north is the Jian River; from the southwest the Mei stream joins it. To the east was the Qingyao Town patrol office, now abolished.

永福府西南。 西南有高蓋山,又南有陳山。 東有東溪,匯諸山溪之水,下流會於福清之龍江而入海。 又有漈門巡檢司,後移於嵩口埕,尋復故。
Yongfu lies southwest of the prefecture. To the southwest is Gaogai Mountain; farther south is Chen Mountain. To the east is Dongxi, which gathers mountain streams and flows down to join the Long River at Fuqing before entering the sea. It also had the Jimen patrol office, later moved to Songkouying and soon restored to its former site.

興化府元興化路,屬福建道宣慰司。 洪武元年爲府。 領縣二。 北距布政司二百八十里。
Xinghua Prefecture was the Yuan Xinghua Route under the Fujian Circuit Pacification Commission. In Hongwu 1 it became a prefecture. It governed two counties. It lay 280 li north of the Provincial Administration Commission.

莆田倚。 東南濱海,海中有湄洲嶼,又有南日山,俱東與琉球國相望。 又南有木蘭溪,北有延壽溪,東北有荻蘆溪,又有通應港,俱會流入海。 又西北有興化縣,正統十三年四月省。 東有平海衛,東南有守禦莆禧千戶所,俱洪武二十一年二月置。 東有嵌頭、西北有大洋寨、東南有吉了三巡檢。 東有衝沁巡檢司,本治尋陽,後徙興福。 又有青山巡檢司,本治武盛裏南哨,後徙奉國裏。 東南有南日山巡檢司,後徙新安。 東北有迎仙寨巡檢司,後移鼓樓山。 東有峙頭、東南有小峙二巡檢司,後廢。
Putian (seat-attached county). The southeast borders the sea; offshore are Meizhou Islet and Nanri Mountain, both facing the Ryukyu realm to the east across the sea. Farther south is Mulan Creek; to the north is Yanshou Creek; to the northeast is Dili Creek; and Tongying Harbor—all converging to enter the sea. Xinghua County in the northwest was abolished in the fourth month of Zhengtong 13. To the east is Pinghai Guard; to the southeast is the Puxi Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the second month of Hongwu 21. To the east is Qiantou; to the northwest is Dayang Stockade; to the southeast is Jile—three patrol posts. To the east is the Chongqin patrol office, originally at Xunyang and later moved to Xingfu. It also has the Qingshan patrol office, originally at Wushengli Nanshao and later moved to Fengguoli. To the southeast is the Nanri Mountain patrol office, later moved to Xin'an. To the northeast is the Yingxian Stockade patrol office, later moved to Guloushan. To the east was Zhitu; to the southeast was Xiaozhi—two patrol offices, later abolished.

仙遊府西。 北有二飛山。 東北有何嶺。 南臨九鯉湖,湖在萬山中,下流入莆田縣界,合於延壽溪。 西有三會溪,即木蘭溪上源。 西有白嶺巡檢司,後遷於文殊寨。 南有楓亭市、西有潭邊市二巡檢司,後廢。
Xianyou lies west of the prefecture. To the north is Erfeng Mountain. To the northeast is He Ridge. To the south lies Jiuli Lake amid myriad mountains; its outflow enters Putian County and joins the Yanshou Creek. To the west is Sanhui Creek, the upper source of the Mulan Creek. To the west is the Bailing patrol office, later moved to Wenshu Stockade. To the south was Fengting Market; to the west was Tanbian Market—two patrol offices, later abolished.

建安倚。 東北有鳳凰山,產茶。 東有東溪,即建江,自浙江慶元縣流經此,又西合於西溪。 又東南有壽嶺巡檢司。
Jian'an (seat-attached county). To the northeast is Fenghuang Mountain, which produces tea. To the east is Dongxi—the Jian River—which flows from Qingyuan County in Zhejiang through this county and joins the West Creek farther west. Farther southeast is the Shouling patrol office.

甌寧倚。 西有西溪,源出崇安縣,東會諸溪之水,流入縣境,又東合於東溪,南入延平府界。 西北有營頭街巡檢司。
Ouning (seat-attached county). To the west is West Creek, which rises in Chong'an County, gathers tributaries from the east, enters the county, joins East Creek farther east, and flows south into Yanping Prefecture. To the northwest is the Yingtou Street patrol office.

建陽府西北。 西北有西山。 東南有錦江,亦曰交溪,有二源,合流於縣東東山下,南流達於建溪。
Jianyang lies northwest of the prefecture. To the northwest is West Mountain. To the southeast is the Jin River, also called Jiao Creek, whose two sources unite east of the county below East Mountain and flow south to the Jian Creek.

崇安府西北。 南有武夷山,中有清溪,九曲流入崇溪。 西北有分水嶺,上有分水關巡檢司。 其水西流者入江西境,東流者入縣境,即崇溪源。 俗謂之大溪,經城西而南出,亦謂之西溪。 其別源出縣東北之岑陽山,亦曰東溪,西南流合於西溪,又南合武夷水而入建陽縣界,即錦江之上源也。 又西北有溫林、岑陽、桐木、焦嶺、谷口、寮竹、觀音等關,與分水關爲崇安入關。
Chong'an lies northwest of the prefecture. To the south is Wuyi Mountain, where Qing Creek winds in nine bends into Chong Creek. To the northwest is Fenling Ridge, with the Fenling Pass patrol office on its summit. Waters flowing west enter Jiangxi; those flowing east enter the county as the source of Chong Creek. Commonly called the Great Creek, it passes west of the city and flows out to the south, also known as West Creek. A separate source rises at Cenyang Mountain in the northeast, also called East Creek, flows southwest to join West Creek, then south to merge with Wuyi waters and enter Jianyang County as the upper source of the Jin River. Farther northwest are the passes of Wenlin, Cenyang, Tongmu, Jiaoling, Gukou, Liaozhu, Guanyin, and others, with Fenling Pass as the main entry into Chong'an.

浦城府東北。 北有漁梁山,建溪之源出焉。 又有蓋仙山,有黎嶺,又有楓嶺,一名大竿嶺,皆浙、閩通途。 又東北有柘嶺,與浙江麗水縣分界,柘水出焉,流合大溪。 又南有南浦溪,亦曰大溪,即建溪也,下合建陽之交溪。 東有高泉、東北有溪源、西北有盆亭三巡檢司。
Pucheng lies northeast of the prefecture. To the north is Yuliang Mountain, where the Jian Creek rises. It also has Gaixian Mountain, Li Ridge, and Feng Ridge (also called Dagan Ridge)—all routes linking Zhejiang and Fujian. Farther northeast is Zhe Ridge, bordering Lishui County in Zhejiang; the Zhe River rises there and joins the Great Creek. Farther south is Nanpu Creek, also called the Great Creek—the Jian Creek—which flows down to join Jianyang's Jiao Creek. To the east is Gaoquan; to the northeast is Xiyuan; to the northwest is Penting—three patrol offices.

松溪府東。 東有萬山。 東北有鷲峯山,接浦城及浙江之龍泉界。 南有松溪,源出浙江慶元縣,亦謂之鬆源水,又西有杉溪,下流俱入於建溪。 北有二十四都巡檢司。 南有東關巡檢司,後遷於烏鞍嶺,又遷於鐵嶺,又遷於峽橋。
Songxi lies east of the prefecture. To the east are myriad mountains. To the northeast is Jiufeng Mountain, linking Pucheng with Longquan in Zhejiang. To the south is Song Creek, rising in Qingyuan County, Zhejiang, also called Songyuan Water; farther west is Shan Creek; both flow into the Jian Creek. To the north is the Twenty-Four Districts patrol office. To the south is the Dongguan patrol office, later moved to Wu'an Ridge, then Tieling, then Xiaqiao.

政和府東。 南有七星溪,源出縣東之銅盤山,下流合於松溪。 又東有丹溪,流經福安縣入海。 又東南有赤巖巡檢司。
Zhenghe lies east of the prefecture. To the south is Qixing Creek, rising at Tongpan Mountain east of the county and joining the Song Creek below. Farther east is Dan Creek, which flows through Fu'an County into the sea. Farther southeast is the Chiyan patrol office.

壽寧府東。 景泰六年八月以政和縣楊海村置,析福安縣地益之。 東有蟾溪,即福寧州長溪上源也。 東有漁溪巡檢司,後遷縣北之官台山,又遷斜灘鎮。
Shouning lies east of the prefecture. In the eighth month of Jingtai 6 it was established from Yanghai Village in Zhenghe County with territory taken from Fu'an County. To the east is Chan Creek, the upper source of the Chang Creek in Funing Prefecture. To the east is the Yuxi patrol office, later moved to Guantai Mountain north of the county, then to Xietan Town.

延平府元延平路,屬福建道宣慰司。 洪武元年爲府。 領縣七。 東南距布政司四百五里。
Yanping Prefecture was the Yuan Yanping Route under the Fujian Circuit Pacification Commission. In Hongwu 1 it became a prefecture. It governed seven counties. It lay 405 li southeast of the Provincial Administration Commission.

南平倚。 南有九峯山。 東北有衍仙山。 城東南有劍溪,即建江也,亦曰東溪,自建寧府流入,南經黯淡灘,又西逕劍津,與西溪合。 西溪出汀、邵二府之境,至縣西,合於沙縣之沙溪,爲沙溪口; 又東至劍津,合於東溪; 又南至尤溪口,合於大溪,亦名南溪; 又東至福州府,入於海; 俗亦謂之三溪。 東南有蒼峽、西北有大曆二巡檢司。
Nanping (seat-attached county). To the south is Jiufeng Mountain. To the northeast is Yanxian Mountain. Southeast of the city is Jian Creek—the Jian River, also called East Creek—which enters from Jianning Prefecture, passes Dandan Shoals to the south, then Jian Ford to the west where it joins West Creek. West Creek comes from the territories of Ting and Shao prefectures; west of the county it joins the Shaxi of Sha County at Shaxikou; farther east it reaches Jian Ford and joins East Creek; farther south it reaches Youxi Ford and joins the Great Creek, also called South Creek; farther east it reaches Fuzhou Prefecture and enters the sea; it is commonly called the Three Creeks. To the southeast is Cangxia; to the northwest is Dali—two patrol offices.

將樂府西。 南有天階山。 西北有百丈山。 南有將溪,亦曰大溪,即西溪之上源也。 又西北有梅溪,自邵武界流入,合於大溪。 又北有萬安寨巡檢司。
Jiangle lies west of the prefecture. To the south is Tianjie Mountain. To the northwest is Baizhang Mountain. To the south is Jiang Creek, also called the Great Creek—the upper source of West Creek. Farther northwest is Mei Creek, which enters from Shaowu and joins the Great Creek. Farther north is the Wan'an Stockade patrol office.

沙府西南。 西北有幼山。 縣治南有沙溪,亦名太史溪,自永安縣流入,經縣東,有霹靂等灘,下流合於西溪。 北有北鄉寨巡檢司。
Sha lies southwest of the prefecture. To the northwest is You Mountain. South of the seat is Shaxi, also called Taishi Creek, which enters from Yong'an County, passes east of the county through shoals such as Pili, and joins West Creek below. To the north is the Beixiang Stockade patrol office.

尤溪府南。 北有丹溪嶺,一名桃木嶺,下有丹溪。 東有尤溪,其上源一出龍巖縣,一出德化縣,合流於縣西南,又北流會湯泉等二十溪,北出尤口,入建溪,亦曰湖頭溪。 西有英果砦、又有高才阪二巡檢司。
Youxi lies south of the prefecture. To the north is Danxi Ridge, also called Taomu Ridge, below which lies Dan Creek. To the east is You Creek, whose upper sources—one from Longyan County and one from Dehua County—unite southwest of the county; it flows north gathering twenty streams including Tangquan, exits at You Ford into the Jian Creek, also called Hutou Creek. To the west are Yingguo Stockade and Gao Cai Slope—two patrol offices.

順昌府西少北。 南有徘徊嶺。 西北有順陽溪,源出建陽縣,又東經縣南,與將溪合,又東經沙口,合邵武縣之沙溪,又東經縣西,與西溪合,西溪即邵武縣之紫雲溪也,又東入南平縣界,爲南平之西溪。 又西北有仁壽鎮巡檢司。
Shunchang lies west and slightly north of the prefecture. To the south is Paihuai Ridge. To the northwest is Shunyang Creek, rising in Jianyang County, passing south of the county to join Jiang Creek, then east through Shakou to join Shaowu's Shaxi, then west of the county to join West Creek (Shaowu's Ziyun Creek), and east into Nanping as Nanping's West Creek. Farther northwest is the Renshou Town patrol office.

永安府西南。 本沙縣之浮流巡檢司,正統十四年置永安千戶所於此。 景泰三年改置縣,析尤溪縣地益之。 東北有貢川山。 東南有石羅山。 西有燕溪,四源合流,經城東北,下流爲沙縣之沙溪。 又西有安砂鎮、西南有湖口寨二巡檢司。 又西北有黃楊巡檢司,廢。
Yong'an lies southwest of the prefecture. It was originally the Fuliou patrol office of Sha County; in Zhengtong 14 the Yong'an thousand-household post was established here. In Jingtai 3 it was made a county with territory taken from Youxi County. To the northeast is Gongchuan Mountain. To the southeast is Shiluo Mountain. To the west is Yan Creek, formed by four sources that pass northeast of the city and become Sha County's Shaxi below. Farther west is Ansha Town; to the southwest is Hukou Stockade—two patrol offices. Farther northwest was the Huangyang patrol office, now abolished.

大田府西南。 嘉靖十五年二月以尤溪縣之大田置,析永安、漳平、德化三縣地益之。 北有五臺山。 南有大仙山。 東有銀瓶山,產銀鐵。 又南有尤溪,自龍巖縣流入,又東入尤溪縣境。 又東南有花橋巡檢司。 又西南有桃源店巡檢司,本屬漳平縣,後來屬。 北有英寨、西南有安仁隘二巡檢司,後廢。
Datian lies southwest of the prefecture. In the second month of Jiajing 15 it was established from Datian in Youxi County with territory taken from Yong'an, Zhangping, and Dehua. To the north is Wutai Mountain. To the south is Daxian Mountain. To the east is Yinping Mountain, which produces silver and iron. Farther south is You Creek, which enters from Longyan County and flows east into Youxi County. Farther southeast is the Huaqiao patrol office. Farther southwest is the Taoyuan Shop patrol office, originally under Zhangping County and later transferred here. To the north was Ying Stockade; to the southwest was Anren Pass—two patrol offices, later abolished.

Tingzhou Prefecture was the Yuan Tingzhou Route under the Fujian Circuit Pacification Commission. In Hongwu 1 it became a prefecture. It governed eight counties. It lay 975 li east of the Provincial Administration Commission.

長汀倚。 北有臥龍山。 又北有新樂山,貢水出焉,流入江西界。 西有新路嶺。 東有鄞江,即東溪,亦曰左溪,自寧化縣流入,下流經廣東大埔縣入海,中有五百灘,亦謂之汀水。 又東南有正溪,西有西溪,北有北溪,南有南溪,俱合於東溪。 又西有古城寨巡檢司。
Changting (seat-attached county). To the north is Wolong Mountain. Farther north is Xinle Mountain, where the Gong River rises and flows into Jiangxi. To the west is Xinlu Ridge. To the east is Yin River—the East Creek, also called Left Creek—which enters from Ninghua County, passes through Guangdong's Dapu County into the sea with five hundred shoals along the way, also called Ting Water. Farther southeast is Zheng Creek; to the west is West Creek; to the north is North Creek; to the south is South Creek—all joining East Creek. Farther west is the Gucheng Stockade patrol office.

寧化府東北。 南有潭飛漈。 又有大溪,源出縣北萬斛泉,分流爲清流縣之清溪,其正流入長汀縣,爲鄞江上流。 北有安遠寨巡檢司。
Ninghua lies northeast of the prefecture. To the south is Tanfei Ji. It also has the Great Creek, rising at Wandou Spring north of the county; a branch becomes Qing Creek in Qingliu County, while the main stream enters Changting as the upper reach of Yin River. To the north is the Anyuan Stockade patrol office.

上杭府南。 西有金山,上有膽泉,浸鐵能成銅。 西南有羊廚山,產礦。 南有大溪。
Shanghang lies south of the prefecture. To the west is Jin Mountain, atop which is Gall Spring, where iron soaked in the water turns to copper. To the southwest is Yangchu Mountain, which produces ore. To the south is the Great Creek.

武平府西南。 北有黃公嶺。 南有化龍溪,下流入廣東程鄉縣。 西南有武平城,洪武二十四年正月置武平千戶所於此。 東南有象洞巡檢司,後移於縣西南之懸繩隘。 北有永平寨巡檢司,後移縣西北之貝寨。
Wuping lies southwest of the prefecture. To the north is Huang Gong Ridge. To the south is Hualong Creek, which flows down into Chengxian County in Guangdong. To the southwest is Wuping City, where the Wuping thousand-household post was established in the first month of Hongwu 24. To the southeast is the Xiangdong patrol office, later moved to Xuan Sheng Pass southwest of the county. To the north is the Yongping Stockade patrol office, later moved to Beizai in the northwest of the county.

清流府東北。 南有豐山,東南有鐵石山,南臨九龍溪,有鐵石磯頭巡檢司。 西南有清溪,自寧化縣流入,東北合半溪,又東南經九龍灘而入永安縣界,亦曰龍溪,即燕溪之上源。
Qingliu lies northeast of the prefecture. To the south is Feng Mountain; to the southeast is Tieshi Mountain, overlooking Jiulong Creek to the south; there is the Tieshi Jitou patrol office. To the southwest is Qing Creek, which enters from Ninghua County, joins Ban Creek to the northeast, then flows southeast through Jiulong Shoals into Yong'an County—also called Long Creek, the upper source of Yan Creek.

連城府東南。 本曰蓮城,洪武十七年後改「蓮。」 曰:「連」。 東有蓮峯山。 南有文溪,下流達於清流縣之清溪。 西南有北園寨巡檢司,後遷於縣南之朗村隘,後又遷於縣西南之新泉隘。
Liancheng lies southeast of the prefecture. It was originally called Liancheng; after Hongwu 17 the character "the cited text (lotus)" was changed- to "the cited text (linked)". To the east is Lian Peak Mountain. To the south is Wen Creek, which flows down to Qing Creek in Qingliu County. To the southwest is the Beiyuan Stockade patrol office, later moved to Langcun Pass south of the county, then to Xinquan Pass southwest of the county.

Guihua lies northeast of the prefecture. In the first month of Chenghua 7 it was established from Mingxi Town in Qingliu County with territory taken from Jiangle, Sha, and Ninghua. To the north is Tie Ridge. To the south is Guihua Creek, which joins Jiang Creek in Jiangle County below. To the east is the Xiayang patrol office.

Yongding lies south of the prefecture. In Chenghua 14 it was established at Tianxindi in Xinan Li, Shanghang County, with territory taken from Sheng Yun and four other li. To the west is the Great Creek—the Ting Water—which flows from Shanghang County through here and east into Dapu County in Guangdong. To the southeast is the Sancengling patrol office. To the northeast is the Taiping patrol office, later moved to Gaopo. To the southwest is the Xinghua patrol office, originally at Gucheng in Xinan Li, briefly abolished and restored, then moved to Fengtou in Shanghang County.

Shaowu Prefecture was the Yuan Shaowu Route under the Fujian Circuit Pacification Commission. In the Taizu Wu year it became a prefecture. It governed four counties. It lay 670 li southeast of the Provincial Administration Commission.

Shaowu (seat-attached county). To the east is Santai Mountain. To the southeast are Qitai Mountain and Daoren Peak. There is also Qiao Creek, rising at Qiaolan Mountain, running through the city and out the north gate, joining Ziyun Creek, and flowing to Shunchang County as Shunyang Creek. Farther southeast is the Shuikou patrol office. Farther east was Nakou; to the south was Tongxun; to the northeast was Yangfang—three patrol offices, now abolished.

Guangze lies northwest of the prefecture. To the north is Yunji Ridge. To the northwest is Shan Ridge with Shan Pass on its summit, bordering Nancheng County in Jiangxi. The Hang River rises there, also called the Great Creek, and flows down into Ziyun Creek. There is also the Dasizhai patrol office, east of Shan Pass. Farther northwest is Huangtu Pass.

Taining lies southwest of the prefecture. To the west is Jinrao Mountain. To the northwest is Dashan Ridge. To the west are the Twenty-Four Creeks; the Tan River joins from the south, and together they meet the Qiao Creek below.

Jianning lies southwest of the prefecture. To the north is Baizhang Ridge, where Lan Creek rises. South has Sui River, source from Jinrao Mountain, one name Tui River, also called Ning Creek, reaching Suicheng Mouth, joining Lan Creek flowing into Taining County boundary. To the west is the Xi'an patrol office, originally at Lixin Fort, later moved to Qiufang Pass, briefly abolished and restored, then to Huangnipu in Xin'an Fort.

Quanzhou Prefecture was the Yuan Quanzhou Route under the Fujian Circuit Pacification Commission. In Hongwu 1 it became a prefecture. It governed seven counties. It lay 410 li east of the Provincial Administration Commission.

Jinjiang (seat-attached county). To the northeast is Quan Mountain, also called Qingyuan. To the southeast is Baogai Mountain. To the south is Lingyuan Mountain. The southeast borders the sea and has salt fields. In the sea lies the Penghu Islands. To the south is the Jin River, which enters from Nan'an County, passes below Shita Mountain west of the city, and flows southeast to Dai Islet and the sea. To the northeast is Luoyang River, which flows south into the sea. Farther southeast is Yongning Guard; to the south is the Fuquan Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the second month of Hongwu 21. To the southeast are Xiangzhi and Wuxun; to the south are Shenhu and Weitou—four patrol offices. To the southwest is Anping City, built during the Jiajing reign. To the southeast is Shihu City, built during the Wanli reign.

Nan'an lies west and slightly north of the prefecture. The southeast borders the sea. To the south is Huanglong Creek, the upper reach of the Jin River; Taolin Creek enters it from the west. To the south is the Shijing patrol office. Farther northwest was Aotou; to the southwest was Dahe—two patrol offices, later abolished.

Tong'an lies southwest of the prefecture. To the west is Wenpu Mountain. The south borders the sea and has salt fields. To the northwest is West Creek, which joins East Creek east of the county and Zhuxi west of the county, then flows southeast into the sea. To the southwest is the Jinmen Garrison Defense thousand-household post; to the west is the Gaopu Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the second month of Hongwu 21. Farther southwest is the Yongning Central-Left thousand-household post at Jiahe Islet—that is, Xiamen—established in the second month of Hongwu 27. To the west is Zhuxi; to the south is Tatou Mountain; to the southeast are Tianpu and Chenkeng—four patrol offices. Farther southwest is the Baijiao patrol office, later moved to Xukou Stockade west of the county. To the southeast is the Lieyu patrol office, later moved to Shixun Harbor. There is also the Guanao patrol office, later moved to Tashi Stockade. There is also the Fengshang patrol office, later moved to Xiadan Harbor west of the county.

Hui'an lies northeast of the prefecture. The southeast borders the sea and has salt fields. To the west is Luoyang River. Farther southeast is the Chongwu Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the second month of Hongwu 21 and moved northeast of the county during the Jiajing reign. East of the city is Huangqi; to the south is Taxue; to the southeast is Xiaocha; to the northeast is Fengwei—four patrol offices. Farther northeast were Tuling and Shage; to the southeast was Xiaodou—three patrol offices abolished in Hongwu 20.

Yongchun lies northwest of the prefecture. To the northwest is Xue Mountain, where Taolin Creek rises; it runs east through Nan'an County, joins Lan Creek to the north at Shuang Creek Mouth, then east again through Nan'an County and south into Huanglong Creek. To the west was the Chenyan Stockade patrol office, abolished during the Hongwu reign.

Dehua lies northwest of the prefecture. To the northwest is Daiyun Mountain. To the west is Taihu Mountain. To the south are Ding Creek and Chan Creek, which unite and flow north into Xianyou in Xinghua. Farther northwest is the Gaozhen patrol office, originally Dongxi Tuan; its seat was later moved and it was renamed. To the southeast is Hubao Pass.

Longxi (seat-attached county). To the east is Qi Mountain. To the west is Tianbao Mountain. To the north is Huafeng Ridge, also called Longtou Ridge. The southeast borders the sea, with islets such as Danxia offshore. To the northeast is the Jiulong River, also called North Creek; its upper sources rise in Changting and Sha counties, enter the county, pass below Longtou Ridge through the gorge, emerge east of the county as Liuying River, and farther south the Nan Creek also flows in. Farther southeast is Zhenmen Harbor, which enters the sea. There is the Liuying River patrol office. To the south is the Jiulong Ridge patrol office.

Zhangpu lies south of the prefecture. To the south is Liang Mountain; to the southeast is Liangshan Mountain, standing opposite Liang Mountain. To the northeast is Dabu Mountain. The county's east and south sides both border the sea. To the south is the Zhang River, also called Yunxiao Creek, which joins Li'ao Creek and enters the sea. There is also Shicheng Creek. To the northeast is Zhenhai Guard; to the east is the Liu'ao Garrison Defense thousand-household post. Off the bay to the southeast are Gulei and Houge; to the east is Jingwei Bay; to the southwest is Pantuo Ridge—four patrol offices. Farther southeast is the Qingshan patrol office, later moved to Yuezhi; to the southwest is Yunxiao Town—all established in the second month of Hongwu 21.

To the south is Longchuan, which flows down into Zhangping as the upper source of the Jiulong River. To the northeast is the Yanshi patrol office, later moved to Haolin Mouth.

Nanjing lies west of the prefecture. The former seat was in the southwest, north of Shuang Creek. In Jiajing 45 it was moved north to the foot of Damao Mountain. In Wanli 23 it was restored to the former seat. To the north is Ouliao Mountain. To the south is Shuang Creek, which enters Longxi County as the Nan Creek. To the north is Yongfeng; to the northwest is Hexi—two patrol offices. There were also Xiaoxi and Hanxi—two patrol offices, later abolished.

Zhangping lies northwest of the prefecture. In Chenghua 6 it was established from Jiulong Township in Longyan County, with territory carved from Juren and four other li. To the southeast is Xianghu Mountain. To the south is Baijia She Cave, straddling the junction of Longyan, Anxi, Longxi, Nanjing, and Zhangping. There is also the Jiulong Creek, flowing from Longyan County through here and down into Longxi County. To the south is the Guihua patrol office, later moved to Xixi Mouth east of the county. Farther northeast was the Xinan patrol office, now abolished.

平和府西南。 正德十四年六月以南靖縣之河頭大洋陂置,析漳浦縣地益之。 東南有三平山。 東有大峯山,河頭溪所出,分數流達海,又西有盧溪流合焉。 有盧溪巡檢司,後遷枋頭板,改名漳汀巡檢司。
Pinghe lies southwest of the prefecture. In the sixth month of Zhengde 14 it was established from Hetou Dayangpi in Nanjing County, with territory taken from Zhangpu County. To the southeast is Sanping Mountain. To the east is Dafeng Mountain, where Hetou Creek rises and divides into several streams reaching the sea; from the west Luxi Creek joins it. There was the Luxi patrol office, later moved to Fangtouban and renamed the Zhangting patrol office.

Zhao'an lies south of the prefecture. It was originally the Nanzhao Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in Hongzhi 18. In the twelfth month of Jiajing 9 it was converted to a county. To the south it faces the sea; on the coast is Chuanling Mountain, and in the sea is Nan'ao Mountain. To the east is Dong Creek, a branch of Hetou Creek, flowing southeast into the sea. To the south is the Xuanzhong Garrison Defense thousand-household post; to the east is the Tongshan Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the second month of Hongwu 21. To the east are Jinshi and Hongdan—two patrol offices. To the southwest is Fenshui Pass, the boundary between Zhang and Chao, where the patrol office was stationed.

Haicheng lies southeast of the prefecture. In the twelfth month of Jiajing 45 it was established from Jinghai Post in Longxi County, with territory taken from Zhangpu County. The northeast borders the sea. To the west is Nan Creek, entering from Longxi County and joining Liuying River to flow into the sea. To the east is the Haimen patrol office, later moved to Qingpu Village. To the northeast is the Haomen patrol office, originally stationed at Haicangyang, later moved to Songyu northeast of the county. To the east is the Daowei patrol office. Farther northwest is Shima Town.

Ningyang lies northwest of the prefecture. It was originally the Dongxiyang patrol office of Longyan County, established in Zhengtong 11. In the twelfth month of Jiajing 45 it was converted to a county, with territory taken from Datian and Yong'an. To the south is Xiangliao Mountain. To the southeast is Dongyang, where streams converge.

Funing Subprefecture under the Yuan belonged to Fuzhou Route. In the eighth month of Hongwu 2 it was reduced to a county under Fuzhou Prefecture. In the third month of Chenghua 9 it was raised to a subprefecture directly under the Provincial Administration Commission. To the north is Longshou Mountain. To the east is Song Mountain; below it is the Fenghuomen water fort, moved here from Sansha Stockade at sea in Zhengtong 9. To the northeast is Damao Mountain. The southeast borders the sea, with Yushan, Taishan, Guan'ao Mountain, and Pingfeng Islet offshore. To the east is Baishui River. To the west is Chang Creek, rising on the Shouning county border and reaching the sea at Guzhenmen southwest of the county. To the east is Funing Guard; to the south is the Dajin Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the second month of Hongwu 21. To the northwest is the Zheyang patrol office; there is also the Lumen patrol office, later moved to Tongshan Stockade. Farther northeast is the Dayung patrol office, later moved to Qinyu Stockade. To the east is the Qingwan patrol office, later moved to Yali Stockade. To the south is the Gaoluo patrol office, later moved to Lüxia Stockade. There is also the Yanting patrol office, later moved to Xiahubao Stockade. Farther northeast are Jiangyang and Xiaolan; to the northwest are Xiao'ao and Kuxi; to the southwest is Lantian; to the south is Xijiu—six patrol offices, later abolished. It governed two counties. It lay 545 li southwest of the Provincial Administration Commission.

Ningde lies southwest of the subprefecture. In Hongwu 2 it belonged to Fuzhou Prefecture. In Chenghua 9 it came under Funing's jurisdiction. To the north is Huotong Mountain and Gui Islet. The southeast borders the sea, with Guanhu Mountain in the midst and Guanjing Sea below. Farther east is Ruifeng, also at sea. To the west is Qionglong Creek; to the southwest is Chijian Lake; to the north is Waimiao Creek—all flowing down to the sea. To the north is the Dongyang Maling patrol office, which was moved to Hancun, then to Yundan Gate northeast of the county, then to Huangwan east of the county, before finally returning to its former seat. To the south is Nanjing Pass. To the east is Changqi Town.

Fu'an lies northwest of the subprefecture. In Hongwu 2 it belonged to Fuzhou Prefecture. In Chenghua 9 it came under Funing's jurisdiction. To the southwest is Cheng Mountain. The sea lies to the south. To the northwest is Chang Creek, which flows southeast into Funing Subprefecture. Guangdong fell within Yang Province—and beyond its outer bounds—as described in the Tribute of Yu. The Yuan established the Guangdong Circuit Pacification Commission with its seat at Guangzhou Route. It was subordinate to the Jiangxi Branch Secretariat. The Yuan also established the Haibei Hainan Circuit Pacification Commission with its seat at Leizhou Route. It was subordinate to the Huguang Branch Secretariat. In the third month of Hongwu 2 the Haibei Hainan Circuit was placed under the Guangxi Branch Secretariat. In the fourth month of Hongwu 2 the Guangdong Circuit became the Guangdong Branch Secretariat. In the sixth month of Hongwu 2 the jurisdictions of the Hainan and Haibei circuits were combined under it. In the eleventh month of Hongwu 4 the Guangdong Regional Guard was established. It was co-administered with the Branch Secretariat. In the tenth month of year 8 the Regional Guard became the Guangdong Regional Military Commission. In the sixth month of year 9 the Branch Secretariat became the Provincial Administration Commission. It governed ten prefectures, one directly administered prefecture, seven subordinate prefectures, and seventy-five counties. Its registered area was 4,028 li. To the north it reached the Five Ridges and bordered Jiangxi. To the east it reached Chaozhou and bordered Fujian. To the west it reached Qinzhou and bordered Guangxi. To the south it reached the Qiong Sea. It lay 4,300 li from Nanjing and 7,835 li from the capital. In the Hongwu 26 registration there were 675,599 households and 3,007,932 persons. In Hongzhi 4 there were 467,390 households and 1,817,384 persons. In Wanli 6 there were 530,712 households and 5,004,655 persons.

Nanhai (seat-attached county). To the northwest are Shimen Mountain and Shuangnü Mountain. The south borders the sea. Farther south is Sanjiang Kou. The three rivers are the Xi River, whose upper course combines the Qian, Yu, and Gui rivers and enters from Wuzhou Prefecture in Guangxi; the Bei River, also called the Zhen River; and the Dong River, also called the Longchuan River. All three join the Xi River, pass south of Panyu County, and enter the South Sea. To the northwest is the Sanjiang patrol office, originally seated at Cesui Village and later moved to Cunbao. There are also Jinli; to the southwest, Shen'an; and Huangding and Jiangpu—four patrol offices. Farther south is the Wudoukou patrol office, later moved to Modaokou and then to Foshan Town.

Shunde lies southwest of the prefecture. In Jingtai 3 it was established from Daliangbao in Nanhai County, with territory taken from Xinhui County. To the northwest is the Xi River; to the south is Maning and to the north is Zini—two patrol offices. To the west is the Jiangcun patrol office, later moved to Zhapu northwest of the county. To the north is the Ningdu patrol office, later moved to Douzhanbao. Farther southeast was the Magang patrol office, now abolished.

Dongguan lies southeast of the prefecture. The south borders the sea, with Sanzhou offshore and bays such as Nantou, Tunmen, Jixi, Fotangmen, Shizimen, Lengshuijiao, Laowanshan, and Lingdingyang. To the north is the Dong River. To the west is Zhongtang; to the southwest, Baisha; and Quekou Town—three patrol offices. To the northeast is the Jingshan patrol office, originally seated at Chayuan, later moved to Jingkou Village and renamed. Farther southwest is Hutoushan Pass, established in Hongwu 27.

Sanshui lies north of the prefecture. In the fifth month of Jiajing 5 it was established from Longfenggang in Nanhai County, with territory taken from Gao'an County. The Xi River lies to the south and the Bei River to the west. To the southwest is Sanjiang; to the north is Xujiang; and to the east is Xinan Town—three patrol offices. Farther south is the Hengshi patrol office.

To the southeast is Chaolian; to the west is Niudu Bay—two patrol offices. Farther northwest is the Leyuan patrol office, later moved to Shiluogang north of the county. Farther northeast is the Dawa patrol office, originally seated at Zhongledu and later moved to Luantai Village. Farther south is the Shacun patrol office, originally seated at Dashengang, later moved to Xiandong Village and then to Changsha Village, before finally returning to its former seat.

Xinning lies southwest of the prefecture. In Hongzhi 11 it was established from Shangkenglang in Dexing du of Xinhui County, with territory taken from Wenzhang and four other du. The south borders the sea. To the north is the Enping River, also called the Changsha River. Farther south is Guanghai Guard, established in the ninth month of Hongwu 27. To the west is the Wanggao patrol office; to the southwest was the Chenggang patrol office, now abolished.

Conghua lies northeast of the prefecture. In Hongzhi 2 it was established from Hengtancun in Panyu County, with territory taken from Zengcheng County. In Hongzhi 9 the seat was moved to Liuxi Ma'chang Bend. To the northeast is the Liuxi patrol office, originally at Shitan Village north of the county, later moved to Shengang Village.

To the southwest is the Huiqi patrol office; to the northwest is the Binjiang patrol office. To the northeast was the Hengshi Ji patrol office, later abolished.

Lianzhou was the Yuan Guiyang Prefecture, directly subordinate to Guangdong Circuit. In the third month of Hongwu 2 it was merged into Lianzhou. In the fourth month Lianzhou was abolished and its territory passed to Lianshan. In the ninth month of Hongwu 3 Lianshan was abolished and its territory passed to Yangshan. In Hongwu 14 Lianzhou was established here, subordinate to the prefecture. To the northeast is the Gui River. To the west is the Huang River, also called the Kui River, which enters from Ningyuan County in Huguang and joins the Zhen River to the southeast. To the northwest is the Zhugang patrol office. There is also the Xi'an patrol office, originally at Rennai Township, later moved into Yangshan County. It lay 560 li southeast of the prefecture. It governed two counties:

Yangshan lies northeast of the zhou. Under the Yuan it belonged to Guiyang Prefecture. In the third month of Hongwu 2 Guiyang Prefecture was abolished and Yangshan came under Lianzhou. In the fourth month Lianzhou was abolished and it belonged to Shaozhou Prefecture. In the fourth month of Hongwu 14 it became Lianzhou: the zhou seat was moved to the old Guiyang Prefecture site, the county was restored, and it came under the zhou. To the south is Yang Creek—the Kui River. To the northwest is the Xingzi patrol office. To the east is the Xi'an patrol office, transferred from Lianzhou and stationed at Qinglian Water Mouth. To the north are the Huangxi and Yangshan passes.

Lianshan lies west of the zhou. Under the Yuan the Lianzhou seat was here, directly subordinate to Guangdong Circuit. In the fourth month of Hongwu 2 the zhou was abolished and Lianshan belonged to Shaozhou Prefecture. In the ninth month of Hongwu 3 it was merged into Yangshan. In the eleventh month of Hongwu 13 it was restored. In the fourth month of Hongwu 14 it came under the zhou. The former seat was at Zhong Mountain northwest of the county. In Yongle 1 it was moved to the foot of Cheng Mountain west of the county. In Tianshun 6 it was moved again to Xiaoping. To the south is Huanglian Mountain. To the north is the Gaoliang River, also called the Dahuo River, which flows east to the zhou border and enters the Huang River. To the west is the Yishan patrol office, at the old county seat below Cheng Mountain.

To the southeast is the Guye patrol office, originally at Feng Village in Longchi District, later moved to Hengcha Lower District east of the county. To the east is the Lubu patrol office, first at Lower Village, later moved to Upper Village Water Mouth. To the east was the Hengcha patrol office, first at Upper Half District, later moved to Water Mouth, then abolished.

Gaoming lies southeast of the prefecture. It was originally the Gaoming Town patrol office in Gaoyao County; in the twelfth month of Chenghua 11 it became a county with territory taken from Qingtai and other districts. To the south is Cangbu Water, also called the Cang River, which flows down into the West River. To the northeast is the Taiping patrol office, originally at Taiping District, later moved to Hanhaikou in the county's eastern district. It was later moved to Shantai Temple southwest of the county, then to the Shenshiqi coast east of Qing Creek.

Farther south was the Luyuan patrol office, later abolished.

Kaiping lies south of the prefecture. It was originally the Kaiping garrison of Enping County. In the late Ming it was made a county with territory taken from Xinxing and Xinhui. To the south is the Enping River, rising at Pingcheng Mountain northwest of old Enping County, flowing east to join Wushi Water and down into Xinhui County in Guangzhou. To the southeast is the Shagang patrol office, originally at Shagang Village, later moved to Changsha Village in Pingkang District. To the south is the Songbai patrol office; to the north is the Sihe patrol office.

To the north was the Guliang patrol office, briefly abolished, later restored west of the county, then moved to Xiaoshuikou in Nanxiang District. Farther north was the Siliang patrol office, later abolished.

Yangjiang lies south of the prefecture. Under the Yuan the Nan'en Prefecture seat was here, directly subordinate to Guangdong Circuit. In Hongwu 1 Nan'en Prefecture was abolished and it was placed under Xin Prefecture. In the fourth month of Hongwu 2 Xin Prefecture was abolished and it came under Zhaoqing Prefecture. To the south it borders the sea. Offshore is Hailing Mountain; northwest of it is Hezhou Mountain, where the Hailing patrol office is stationed. To the west is the Moyang River, rising at Yunfu Mountain north of old Tongling County, flowing south through Yangchun County, gathering tributaries, passing the old Nan'en city, and reaching Beijin Harbor Gate before entering the sea. To the southeast is the Hailang Garrison Defense thousand-household post; to the southwest is the Shuangyu Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in Hongwu 27. Farther northeast is Liantang Stockade; to the west is Taiping Stockade—both built during the Jiajing reign.

Enping lies south of the prefecture. It was originally the Enping patrol office of Yangjiang County, first at old Enping County northeast of the county seat, later moved to Enping Stockade. In the sixth month of Chenghua 14 the stockade became a county with territory taken from Xinxing and Xinhui; the patrol office was moved to Chengcun southeast of the county under its former name, then later to Baimeng garrison. South of the county is the Enping River.

Guangning lies northwest of the prefecture. In the tenth month of Jiajing 38 it was established from territory of Sihui County. The seat was first below Tanpu Mountain southeast of the county, later moved to Fuxing Mountain at Dapu Village—the present seat. To the north is the Sui River; there is also the Longkou garrison-farm thousand-household post, likewise established in Jiajing 38. To the northwest is the Jinxi patrol office. To the south is the Fuxi patrol office, first at Dongxiang Water Mouth, later moved to Fuxi Mouth, then to Guanbu.

To the west is Little Xiang Gorge; the Xi River runs through it, and Duan Stream enters from the northeast. To the east is the Yuecheng Township patrol office, originally at the old Yuecheng county seat, later moved to Lingxi Creek mouth. It lay 210 li east of the prefecture. It governed two counties:

Fengchuan lies west of the subprefecture. Under the Yuan, Feng Prefecture was seated here, directly subordinate to Guangdong Circuit. In the third month of Hongwu 2 the prefecture was abolished and reassigned. To the south is the Xi River; to the west is the He River; to the northwest is the Dong'an River—all flow into the county. To the north is the Wende patrol office, originally at Dazhou Mouth northwest of the county, later moved to the He River mouth west of the county, and then moved here again.

Lechang lies northwest of the prefecture. To the south is Chang Mountain. To the northeast is Lingjun Mountain. To the west is Three Rapids Water, namely the Wu Water. Yingde lies southwest of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was Yingde Prefecture, directly subordinate to Guangdong Circuit. In the third month of Hongwu 2 it was reduced to a county and came under Shaozhou Prefecture. To the south is Gaoshi Mountain, also called Zhenyang Gorge. Zhen Water lies east of the county, also called Qin Water; Kuang Water lies west of the county, also called Guang Water; they unite southwest of the county at Guang Mouth, where there is the Guang Mouth patrol office. Farther south is Longtou Water, which joins the Zhen Water. To the east is Xianggang; to the north is Qingxi; to the west is Hangguang—three patrol offices. Farther south was the Nanya patrol office, now abolished.

Renhua lies northeast of the prefecture. The seat was originally at Shuixi Village, later moved to Chengkou Village. To the northwest is Wuzhu Ridge, where Wu Stream rises; below it becomes Tong Stream and flows into the Zhen Water. To the northeast is the Fuxi patrol office. Farther north is the Encun patrol office.

Ruyuan lies west of the prefecture. The seat was originally at Yutang; in Hongwu 1 it was moved to Zhoutou Ford. To the west is La Ridge, one of the Five Ridges. To the northwest is the Wu Water, flowing in from Yizhang County in Huguang; there is the Wuyang patrol office.

Wengyuan lies southeast of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it belonged to Yingde Prefecture. In the third month of Hongwu 2 it was reassigned. The old city lay in the northwest; the present seat is at Chang'an Township, to which it was moved in early Hongwu. To the north is Bao Mountain. To the east is Lingchi Mountain, where Weng Stream rises—the Longtou Water. To the east is the Guiyashan patrol office, originally at Chayuan Post, later moved to Nanpu.

Baochang (seat-attached county). To the north is Dayu Ridge, also called Meiling, with Meiguan Pass on its summit—the source of the Zhen Water. From the northwest the Lingjiang Water joins it; flowing south to Panyu it enters the sea as the North River. Farther east of the county is Little Dayu Ridge. To the northwest is Baishun; to the southeast is Pingtian—two patrol offices. Farther northeast is the Hongmei patrol office, originally below Meiguan Pass, later moved here.

To the southeast is the Pinghai Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the ninth month of Hongwu 27. There are also the Neiwai Guan and Bijia patrol offices.

Farther north was the Huangdong patrol office, now abolished.

Yong'an lies northeast of the prefecture. In the first month of Longqing 3 it was established from Anmin Town in Guishan County, with territory taken from Changle County. To the west is the East River. To the southwest is the Kuanren Li patrol office, originally at Kuzhu Branch, later moved to Peach Garden. There is also the Xunzhi Li patrol office, originally at Fenghuang Mound, later moved to Wushi Garrison east of the county. Soon both returned to their former seats.

To the south is the Jiesheng Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the second month of Hongwu 28; it was originally called Jiejing and renamed in the third month. There is the Jiazimen patrol office. Farther west is the Ebu Ridge patrol office. Farther southwest is the Changsha Harbor patrol office, later moved to Xiedao.

To the south is Long River, the upper reaches of the East River, flowing in from Anyuan County in Jiangxi. To the east is the Tongqu patrol office, later moved to Laolongbu, soon restored to its former seat. To the northeast is the Eleventh District patrol office.

To the southeast is the Shuikou patrol office, which guarded Shuikou Pass; it was later abolished, re-established at Xi'an, and soon moved to Shang'an on the east bank. Farther north is the Thirteenth District patrol office, later moved to Baishui Stockade, soon restored to its former seat.

Lianping Subprefecture was originally Lianping County. In Chongzhen 6 it was established from Huihua District in Heping County, with territory taken from Changning and Heyuan counties and Wengyuan County in Shaozhou Prefecture. Soon it was raised to subprefecture status. To the west is Yinmei Water, rising at Yangmei Flat as the upper source of the Zhen River. To the south is Changjili; to the southeast is Zhongxinli—two patrol offices. It lay 180 li northeast of the prefecture. It governed two counties:

In Hongwu 2 it was moved to Shouchun Market. In Wanli 10 it was moved to the present seat. To the south is Cha River, namely the Longchuan River, whose lower course is the East River. From the north the Xinfeng River also flows into it. Farther northeast is the Lankou patrol office.

In the eighth month of Zhengde 13 it was established from the Heping office of Longchuan County, with territory taken from Heyuan County, under Huizhou Prefecture. To the northwest is Laitou Mountain, where the Sanlai waters rise, also called Heping Water; there is the Laitou patrol office.

To the south is Mei Creek, the lower course of Xingting River, also called Evil Creek; from the northwest the Cheng River joins it. To the west is the Taiping Township patrol office, stationed at Meitang Stockade, later moved beside Shizhen Village northwest of the county. To the southeast is the Fengshun Township patrol office, originally on the Pingyuan County border northwest of the county, later moved to Songkou Market.

The southeast borders the sea; offshore is Nan'ao Mountain, where the Dacheng Garrison Defense thousand-household post was established in Hongwu 27. To the south is Huanggang; to the west is Fenghuang Mountain—two patrol offices. Farther southeast is Zhelin Stockade.

The south borders the sea. To the west is Sanhe, named for the confluence of Da River, Xiao River, and Qingyuan River—the upper source of the Han River. To the southeast is the Jinghai Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in Hongwu 27. To the south is the Shenquan patrol office, originally called Beishan and stationed at Shancun northwest of the county, later moved to Shenquan Village and renamed.

To the south is Shenquan River, namely the Yin River of Tingzhou Prefecture in Fujian. Farther west is Evil Creek. To the northeast is Hutousha; to the west is Sanhe Town—two patrol offices. Farther south is the Dachan patrol office, later moved to Huangsha. To the southwest is the Wucha patrol office, later moved to Gaobei.

Pingyuan lies northwest of the prefecture. In the fifth month of Jiajing 41 it was established from Linziying in Haoju District, Chengxian County, with territory taken from Wuping and Shanghang in Fujian, Anyuan in Jiangxi, and Xingning in Huizhou Prefecture; it belonged to Ganzhou Prefecture in Jiangxi. In the first month of year 42 the ceded territory from three counties was returned; the county was established only from Xingning and Chengxian territory and came under [Chaozhou's] jurisdiction.

Puning lies southwest of the prefecture. In the first month of Jiajing 42 it was established from Rongshui District in Chaoyang County, with territory taken from Yangwu and Huangkeng districts, provisionally administered from Guiyu in Guishan District. In Wanli 10 the seat was moved to Huangkeng; Yangwu and Rongshui districts were returned to Chaoyang. To the west is Winter Melon Mountain, where Winter Melon Water rises; it flows down as Gu Creek in Jieyang County, joins the South and North creeks, and downstream reaches Chenghai County and enters the sea. To the southwest is the Yunluojing patrol office.

In the first month of Jiajing 42 it was converted to a county, with territory taken from Jieyang and Raoping counties; the Zhanwang patrol office was moved to Nanyangfu north of the county, keeping its former name. The south borders the sea, also called Mingyang Sea. To the southwest is the Pengzhou Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the fourth month of Hongwu 26. There is also the Tuopu patrol office.

In the eleventh month of Hongwu 7 it was reduced to a department. In the fourth month of Hongwu 9 it was restored as a prefecture. Later the seat was moved to Maoming. It governed one department and five counties. It lay 1,000 li southeast of the Provincial Administration Commission.

To the southeast is the Pingshan patrol office, originally at Honghua Stockade, later moved to old Dianbai County northeast of the present county. Farther southwest was the Boma patrol office, later abolished.

Lingshui and Luoshui also flow in from Beiliu County in Guangxi and join Maoming Water; downstream at Wuchuan County this becomes Wuchuan Water and enters the sea to the south. Wuchuan lies south of the department. Under the Yuan it belonged to Huazhou Route. In the fourth month of Hongwu 9 it came under Gaozhou Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 14 it was transferred to Huazhou. The south borders the sea; offshore is Wiegang Islet. There is the Wiegang Islet patrol office, originally on the islet's south shore, later moved onto the islet itself. To the southeast is the Ningchuan Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the fourth month of Hongwu 27. Farther north is the Ningcun patrol office, originally at Chuanjiao, later moved to Diju Village northwest of the county, then to Zhikao Pass.

Hepu (seat-attached county). It was abolished in the eleventh month of Hongwu 7 and re-established in the fifth month of Hongwu 14. To the east is Dalian Mountain, from which the department takes its name. The southeast borders the sea, also called the Pearl Mother Sea for the pearl beds offshore. North of the city wall is Lian River, also called the Hepu River, which enters from Rong County in Guangxi, passes through the department, splits into five channels at the mouth, and flows southwest into the sea. Farther north was Shikang County, abolished in Chenghua 8. To the east is the Yong'an Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in Hongwu 27. To the southeast is Zhuchang; to the northeast is Yongping—two patrol offices. Farther north is the Gaoyang patrol office, originally at Malan Market, later moved southwest of the county.

In the tenth month of Zhishun 2 it was renamed the Qianning Pacification Commission under the Haibei-Hainan Circuit Pacification Commission. In the tenth month of Hongwu 1 it became Qiongzhou Prefecture. In Hongwu 2 it was reduced from a prefecture to a zhou. In Hongwu 3 it was again raised to prefecture status. To the southwest was the Tonggu patrol office, stationed at Xin'an District, later moved to Xili District and abolished. Anding lies south of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was established in the sixth month of Zhiyuan 29. In the tenth month of Tianshi 2 it was raised to Nanjian Prefecture. In the tenth month of Hongwu 1 it was restored to county status. To the south is Wuzhi Mountain, also known as Limu Mountain, around whose foot the Li people dwell in a ring—the acculturated Li outside, the unacculturated Li within. To the north is the Jian River, which flows northwest along the border and enters the Nandu River. To the east is the Tanlan garrison-farm thousand-household post, established under the Yuan and retained in the Hongwu reign until abolished in Yongle 4. To the west is the Qingning patrol office. Farther east is the Ningcun patrol office, stationed at Tanlan Village, later moved to Nanzhi District southeast of the county while keeping its former name.

Dong'an lies east of the prefecture. To the northeast is the Nanxiang Garrison Defense thousand-household post; to the southwest is the Fulin Garrison Defense thousand-household post—both established in the fifth month of Wanli 5. Guangxi fell within Jing Province in the Tribute of Yu and lay beyond the outer marches of Jing and Yang provinces. The Yuan established the Guangxi Liangjiang Circuit Pacification Commission with its seat at Jingjiang Route. It was subordinate to the Huguang Branch Secretariat. At the end of the Zhizheng era the Pacification Commission was converted into the Guangxi Branch Secretariat. In the third month of Hongwu 2 the arrangement was retained. In the fourth month of Hongwu 6 the Guangxi Regional Guard was established. It was co-administered with the Branch Secretariat. In the tenth month of Hongwu 8 the Regional Guard became the Guangxi Regional Military Commission. In the sixth month of Hongwu 9 the Branch Secretariat became the Provincial Administration Commission. It governed eleven prefectures, forty-eight subprefectures, fifty counties, and four native chieftaincies. Its registered area was 1,183 li. To the north it reached Huaiyuan and bordered Huguang and Guizhou. To the east it reached Wuzhou and bordered Guangdong. To the west it reached Taiping and bordered Guizhou and Yunnan. To the south it reached Bobai and bordered Guangdong. It lay 4,295 li from Nanjing and 7,762 li from the capital. In the Hongwu 26 registration there were 211,263 households and 1,482,671 persons. In Hongzhi 4 there were 459,640 households and 1,676,274 persons. In Wanli 6 there were 218,712 households and 1,186,179 persons.

Xing'an lies north of the prefecture. 永寧州元古縣。 洪武十四年改爲古田縣。 隆慶五年三月升爲永寧州。 縣舊治在今州南三十里。 洪武初,移於今州南八里。 成化十八年又移今治。 又有黃源水,下流入灕江。 南有桐木鎮、又有常安鎮、西南有富椽鎮三土巡檢司。 東距府百五十里。 領縣二:
Yongning Subprefecture was originally Gu County under the Yuan. In Hongwu 14 it was renamed Gutian County. In the third month of Longqing 5 it was elevated to Yongning Subprefecture. The old county seat lay 30 li south of the present subprefecture. At the beginning of the Hongwu reign it was moved to 8 li south of the present subprefecture. In Chenghua 18 it was moved again to the present seat. There is also Huangyuan Water, which flows down into the Li River. To the south is the Tongmu Town native patrol office; there is also the Chang'an Town native patrol office; to the southwest is the Fuchuan Town native patrol office. It lay 150 li east of the prefecture. It governed two counties:

Yongfu lies southeast of the subprefecture. Formerly under Guilin Prefecture; in the third month of Longqing 5 it was transferred to the subprefecture. To the southwest is Taihe Mountain; the Taihe River circles its base, flows east into Liuzhou Prefecture, and becomes the Luoqing River. Farther southwest was Liding County, under the Yuan Jingjiang Old Route; it was abolished in the ninth month of Zhengtong 5. There were also the Lanma Town and Tonggu Market patrol offices to the northeast—both abolished.

Yining lies northeast of the subprefecture; formerly under Guilin Prefecture, in the third month of Longqing 5 it was transferred to the subprefecture. To the north is Ding Ridge, where the Yi River rises; below it divides into two branches—the eastern branch becomes Xiangsi Water in Lingui County and enters the Li River, while the southern branch becomes Baishi Water in Yongfu County, which is the Taihe River. To the northwest is the Sangjiangkou patrol office.

Pingle Prefecture was established in the eleventh month of the Yuan Dade 5. In Hongwu 1 the arrangement was retained. It governed one subprefecture and seven counties. It lay 190 li north of the Provincial Administration Commission.

Pingle (seat-attached county). To the southeast is Luxi Mountain. To the northwest is the Li River; from the north the Lechuan River flows east through Zhaotan and joins it. Farther east is the Rongjin Stockade patrol office; there is also the Shuichanying native patrol office. Farther east were the Longping Stockade and Zhaoping Fort native patrol offices—both abolished. Farther east is Tuanshan Fort; to the southeast are Guangyun and Zutan forts; farther south is Zengtan Fort—all established after the Hongzhi reign.

Gongcheng lies northeast of the prefecture. To the south is the Lechuan River; from the east comes the Shi River; from the south the Nanping River; from the north the Pingchuan River; from the southwest the Xishui River—all unite here. To the northeast is the Zhenxia Stockade patrol office; to the east is the Shijiangyuan patrol office. There are also the Baimian and Xiling stockade native patrol offices.

Fuchuan lies east-northeast of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it belonged to He Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it was transferred to Xun Prefecture, later coming under Ping Prefecture. To the southwest is the old seat of Zhongshan County. In the eleventh month of Hongwu 29 the seat was moved to the foot of Aishi Mountain, and the Bianpeng Stockade patrol office was placed at the former site. To the north is Qin Mountain, on the border with Daozhou in Huguang. To the northeast is Mangzhu Ridge, also called Linhe Ridge, which marks the boundary with Jianghua County in Huguang. Farther east is the Fu River, which is joined from the south by He Water. To the southwest is the Baixia Stockade patrol office; to the northwest is the Zhaixia Market patrol office.

He County lies southeast of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was He Prefecture, directly subordinate to Guangxi's Liangjiang Circuit. At the beginning of the Hongwu reign the seat-attached Linhe County was abolished and merged in, and the prefecture came under Xun Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it was reduced to a county, later coming under Ping Prefecture. To the northeast is Linhe Ridge, also known as Guiling Ridge; below it once stood Guiling County, abolished at the end of the Yuan. To the east is the He River, which at Fengchuan County in Guangdong joins the Xi River. To the south is the Xindu Township patrol office. To the north is the Shatian Stockade patrol office, later moved to Diandeng Stockade west of the county and soon abolished. Farther northeast were the Daning Stockade, Fanzi Stockade, and Baihuadong indigenous patrol offices, all later abolished.

Lipu lies west and slightly south of the prefecture. Formerly under Guilin Prefecture; in Hongzhi 4 it came under Ping Prefecture. The old seat lay west of the present county. In Jingtai 7 it was moved to Rear Mountain—the present seat. To the east is Tonggu Ridge, also called Flame Mountain. Farther south is the Lijiang, whose lower course flows into the Li River. To the southeast is the Fengmen Stockade patrol office, later moved to Zhongdong. To the northwest is the Nanyuan Stockade patrol office, later moved to Xiadong southeast of the county, then to Yanbinjiang east of the county. Farther southwest is Huagai Fortress, built during the Wanli reign.

Xiuren lies west and slightly south of the prefecture. Formerly under Guilin Prefecture; in Hongzhi 4 it came under Ping Prefecture. The old seat was at Malangping, west of the present county. At the beginning of the Jingtai reign it was moved to Bazhai Village south of the present county. In Chenghua 15 it was moved to Wufu Ridge—the present seat. To the northeast is the Lijiang; there is the Libi Market indigenous patrol office. To the southwest is Shiqiang Fortress, built during the Wanli reign.

Zhaoping lies south and slightly east of the prefecture. In the fourth month of Wanli 4 it was established from territory carved out of Pingl and Fuchuan counties. In Wanli 5 territory from He County was added to it. To the east is Wuzhi Mountain. There is also the Li River. There is also the Siqin River, whose lower course flows into the Li River. To the southeast is the former site of Longping County, which under the Yuan belonged to the prefecture and was abolished in Hongwu 18.

Yong'an Subprefecture was Lishan County under the Yuan, belonging to the prefecture. In Hongwu 18 it was abolished and made Lishan Township, subordinate to Lipu County. In the second month of Chenghua 13 a subprefecture called Yong'an was established, under Guilin Prefecture. In the ninth month of Hongzhi 3 it was converted to a native official office. In Hongzhi 5 it was restored as a subprefecture and came under Ping Prefecture. To the east is Meng Mountain, at whose foot flows Meng Water. To the south is the Gumei Stockade indigenous patrol office. To the north is the Qunfeng Stockade indigenous patrol office, later moved to Dumo Stockade northwest of the subprefecture, then to Mao'er Fort north of the subprefecture. To the southeast is Xianhui Camp, established during the Wanli reign. It lay 120 li northeast of the prefecture.

Wuzhou Prefecture was the Yuan Wuzhou Route. In Hongwu 1 it became a prefecture. It governed one subprefecture and nine counties. It lay 580 li north of the Provincial Administration Commission.

Cangwu (seat-attached county). Southwest of the city is the Great River—the Qian and Yu waters, which join east of Xun Prefecture to form the Xun River; entering the prefectural boundary it runs east past Lishan, then east past here to join the Gui River at Three Rivers Mouth; downstream it becomes the Xi River of Guangdong. To the east is Changxing; to the west is Anping; to the north is Dong'an; to the southwest is Luoli—four patrol offices.

Teng County lies west of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was Teng Prefecture. It was directly subordinate to Guangxi's Liangjiang Circuit. In the ninth month of Hongwu 2 the seat-attached Tanjin County was abolished and merged in. In the tenth month it came under Wuzhou Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it was reduced to a county. To the north is the Teng River, also called the Tan River—it is the Xun River. From the southeast the Xiujiang flows in; from the west the Muliao River flows in. Farther northwest is the Wutun Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established at the beginning of the Jiajing reign. To the west is the Baishi Stockade patrol office; to the south is the Doujia Stockade patrol office; to the northeast is the Chishui Town patrol office. Farther east was Tayu; to the south was Zhou Village; to the southwest was Yimian; farther south was Siluo—four patrol offices, all abolished.

To the northwest is Rong Mountain. To the south is the Rong River, also known as the Xiujiang. Farther east is the Boluoli Great Cave patrol office; to the southwest is the Fenbi Stockade patrol office.

To the east is the Wucheng Township patrol office; to the west is the Cile Stockade patrol office; to the northwest is the Landong Stockade patrol office.

In the tenth month it came under Wuzhou Prefecture. To the south is the Nanliu River, which at Hepu County in Guangdong enters the sea. There were the Hengling and Wenjun patrol offices, both abolished. It lay 330 li northeast of the prefecture. It governed four counties:

Bobai lies southwest of the subprefecture. To the west is Shuangjiao Mountain; the Lüzhu River rises at its foot, joins Yinma Water south of the county, and flows down into the Nanliu River. To the south is the Zhouluo patrol office; to the southwest is the Shahe patrol office. There were also the Anding, Chuntai, Pingshan, and Zhaochang indigenous patrol offices, soon abolished. Farther southeast is Haimen Town, once the route into Annam.

Beiliu lies north of the subprefecture. Under the Yuan it belonged to Rong Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it came under Wuzhou Prefecture. To the northeast is Gouluo Mountain. To the east is Tongshi Mountain, which yields mercury and cinnabar. Farther south is Fulai Mountain, source of the Ling River; to the southwest is Eshi Mountain, where the Luo River begins. Both streams flow into the territory of Huazhou in Guangdong. Farther north is Lülan Mountain; the Lülan River rises there and splits in two. The eastern branch passes Denglong Bridge east of the city, joins the Xiujiang flowing in from Gaozhou Prefecture in Guangdong, then runs east through Rong County as the Rong River. The western branch enters Yulin Prefecture and becomes the Nanliu River. To the south is the Shuangwei Stockade patrol office. To the west were the Dulong, Zhongshan, and Qingwan patrol offices, all abolished. Farther west is Tianmen Pass, originally called Guimen Pass; at the beginning of the Hongwu reign it was renamed Gui Gate Pass; during the Xuande reign it received its present name.

Luchuan lies south and slightly east of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it belonged to Rong Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it came under Wuzhou Prefecture. It was formerly the route into Annam. To the east is the Longhua River, whose lower course joins the Rong River. To the south is the Wenshui Stockade patrol office.

Xingye lies west and slightly north of the prefecture. To the south is Tiecheng Mountain. To the north is Fanche Ridge; the Longmu River rises there and flows down into the Nanliu River. To the south was the Zhaojia Stockade patrol office; to the west was the Changning Stockade patrol office; to the north was the Ping'an Stockade patrol office; there was also the Tangmu Stockade patrol office—four patrol offices, all later abolished.

Guiping (seat-attached county). To the south is Baishi Mountain. To the northwest is the Great Vine Gorge. To the north is the Qian River, also called the Beijiang and the You River; to the south is the Yu River, also called the Nanjiang and the Zuo River—they converge east of the city to form the Xun River. To the northeast was Wujing Subprefecture, established in Chenghua 3 and abolished at the end of the Wanli reign. Farther east is the Dahuangjiangkou patrol office; to the north is the Jingning Township patrol office; to the northeast is the Daxuan Township patrol office; there are also the Silong Township, Mupanpu, and Changlin Township patrol offices—six in all. Farther south is the Luoxiu indigenous patrol office; to the north are Bitian Fort and Zhenxia Fort, both established during the Chenghua reign. To the east is Niushiwai Fort; to the west are Yanchong Fort and Xiujiang Fort—all established during the Jiajing reign.

Pingnan lies east of the prefecture. To the southeast is the Gong River—that is, the Xun River; from the east the Baima River flows into it. There is also the Fengyi Guard, established in the eighth month of Hongwu 28 at Fengyi Subprefecture and relocated here in the fifth month of Zhengtong 6. To the northeast is the Datong patrol office; to the northwest is the Taichuan patrol office; to the southwest is the Wulin patrol office. Farther south is the Dongxin indigenous patrol office; to the southeast is the Sandui indigenous patrol office; to the northeast is the Daxia indigenous patrol office; to the northwest is the Pingling indigenous patrol office.

Gui County lies west of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was Gui Prefecture, directly subordinate to Guangxi's Liangjiang Circuit; in the tenth month of Hongwu 2 it was reduced to a county and came under Xunzhou Prefecture. Nanshan Mountain lies to the south. There are also mountains to the east, west, and north. To the south is the Yu River, also called the Nanjiang—all the streams flow into it. There is the Xiangwu Military-Civilian thousand-household post, originally the Xiangwu Garrison Defense thousand-household post, established in the tenth month of Hongwu 18 at Xiangwu Subprefecture; in the third month of Hongwu 30 it was promoted to a military-civilian post; in the fifth month of Zhengtong 6 it was relocated outside the county's north gate; in Wanli 23 it was moved again to Xiecun Town northwest of the county. To the southeast is the Xin'an Stockade patrol office; to the north is the Beishan Stockade patrol office. Farther south was the Qiaotou Market patrol office; to the west was the Watang Ferry patrol office; there were also the Wuzhou Stockade, Dongting Ferry, and Guodongli patrol offices—five patrol offices, all abolished. Farther southeast is Sanjiang City, built during the Wanli reign.

Luorong lies northeast of the prefecture. The old seat was at Bailong Rock; during the Tianshun reign it was moved to Zhudong. During the Zhengde reign it was seized by Yao and Zhuang peoples; it was recovered in the eleventh month of Jiajing 3; in the first month of Wanli 4 the seat was moved to Lingtang, the former site at Zhudong was made Pingle Town, and a garrison of one hundred troops was left to hold it. South of the city is the Luoqing River, which at Maping County enters the Liujiang. To the southwest are the Jiangkou Town and Yunjiang patrol offices. To the east is the Pingle Town patrol office, originally at Shiliu River, later moved to Zhongdu northeast of the county. Farther southwest was the Zhangluo Town patrol office, now abolished.

Liucheng lies northwest of the prefecture. The old seat was south of the Longjiang; under the Yuan it was the prefectural seat. In Hongwu 1 the seat was moved to the east bank of the Longjiang, while the prefectural seat was transferred to Maping County. The Longjiang flows in from Tianhe County, joins the Rong River, and forms the upper course of the Liujiang. To the east is the Dongquan Town patrol office. To the north is the Guzhe Town patrol office, originally on the east bank of the Rong River, later moved to Matou Post. Farther northeast is the Guqing Town patrol office; to the west is the Luohao Town patrol office; there is also the Liaodong Town patrol office.

Luocheng lies northwest of the prefecture. In the tenth month of Hongwu 2 it was established from Luocheng Township, subordinate to Rong Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it came under Liuzhou Prefecture. To the north is the Wuyang River, whose lower course joins the Rong River. To the north are the Wuyang Town, Moli Town, and Tongdao Town patrol offices. Formerly there were also the Anxiang Town, Leshan Town, and Zhongdong Town patrol offices, all abolished.

Huaiyuan lies north of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it belonged to Rong Prefecture. It was abolished in Hongwu 10 and the Sanjiang Town patrol office was established in its place. In the eleventh month of Hongwu 13 the county was restored and came under Liuzhou Prefecture, seated at the confluence of the Darong River and Xun River. In Wanli 19 the seat was moved to Danyang Town. To the northwest are Jiujiu Mountain and, south of it, Shimen Mountain—the two peaks face each other across a narrow gap. The Fulu River flows through the gap from Yongcong County in Guizhou; at Rong County it becomes the Rong River, and at Liucheng County the Liujiang. Farther northeast is the Xun River, which flows in from Jing Prefecture in Huguang and joins there; there is the Xunjiang Town patrol office. Farther northwest is Wanshi Town; there are also the Yiliang Town and Danyang Town patrol offices.

Rong County lies northwest of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was Rong Prefecture, directly subordinate to Guangxi's Liangjiang Circuit. In the tenth month of Hongwu 2 the seat-attached Rongshui County was abolished and merged in, and it came under Liuzhou Prefecture. In the fifth month of Hongwu 10 it was reduced to a county. To the southeast is Lingyan Mountain. To the north is Yunji Mountain. To its west is Upper Shimen, where two mountains face each other and the Rong River runs between them. Farther east is Baoji Mountain, which produces iron. To the northeast is the Siguan Town patrol office; to the southeast is the Qingliu Town patrol office; to the southwest is the Etou Pass patrol office. Farther north is the Chang'an Town patrol office, originally on the east bank of the Rong River, later moved to the west bank. There is also the Dayue Town indigenous patrol office. There were also the Baojiang Town, Liyuan Town, and Xidong Town patrol offices, all abolished.

Wuxuan lies south of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it was called Wuxian. It was renamed in Xuande 6. The old seat was at Yinjiang. In the third month of Xuande 6 it was moved to Gaoli. To the southeast is the Great Rattan Gorge, later renamed Yongtong Gorge. To the west is the Liu River; the Duni River, also called the Hengshui River, flows in here, and downstream becomes the You River of Xun Prefecture before rejoining the Liu River. To the northwest is the Anyong Town patrol office; to the southwest is the Xianguo Town patrol office. Farther east were the Dongxiang, Zhouchong, and Xiande patrol offices, all later abolished.

Qianjiang lies north of the prefecture. To the west is Gudang Mountain, with cave settlements. To the northeast is the Great River, which is the Duni River. To the east is the Qianjiang garrison-farm thousand-household post, established in the ninth month of Hongwu 25. To the southeast is the Qingshui Town patrol office; the Luomu Town and Liguang Town patrol offices were later abolished. Farther east is Shiling Fort; to the north is Dulie Fort—both built during the Zhengde reign.

Shanglin lies west and slightly north of the prefecture. To the west is Daming Mountain, whence the Cheng River rises—it is also called the South River; flowing east it joins the North River, then farther east enters the Great River in Qianjiang County. To the northwest is Sanli Camp, where Nandan Guard is stationed. The guard was originally at Nandan Prefecture, established in the eighth month of Hongwu 28; in the first month of Hongwu 29 it was promoted to a joint military-civilian command, but the civilian component was soon abolished and it remained a guard only. In the twelfth month of Yongle 2 it was moved east of Shanglin County; in the fifth month of Zhengtong 6 it was moved to Bin Prefecture city, sharing administration with the Bin thousand-household post; in Wanli 8 it was moved here. To the southwest is Zhou'an Fort, among the Eight Stockades, formerly held by Yao and Zhuang peoples; pacified in Jiajing 3 and transferred to Nandan Guard in Wanli 7. To the northwest is the Sanpan Town patrol office. Farther northeast is the Qinshui Bridge patrol office; to the southeast is the Silong Town patrol office; there is also the Sanmentan Town patrol office.

Qingyuan Prefecture was the Yuan Qingyuan Route. In Hongwu 1 it became a prefecture. In the first month of Hongwu 2 it was changed to the Qingyuan-Nandan Joint Military-Civilian Pacification Commission. In the sixth month of Hongwu 3 it was restored as Qingyuan Prefecture. It governed four prefectures, five counties, and three native chieftaincies. It lay 570 li northeast of the Provincial Administration Commission.

In Tianshun 6 it was moved to Pingfeng Mountain. In Chenghua 13 it returned to Huai'en. In Jiajing 4 it was moved again to the south of Fengyi Mountain. To the west is Zhizhou Mountain. To the east is the Jincheng River, whose lower course joins the Duni River. North of the river is the Jincheng Town patrol office. Si'en lies northeast of the prefecture. Formerly subordinate to the prefecture; in the second month of Zhengde 1 it was transferred to Hechi Prefecture. The old seat was at Huanjiang Isle. At the end of the Yongle reign it was moved to Qingtan Village. In the eleventh month of Xuande 3 it was moved to Baishan Stockade. In Chenghua 8 it was moved to Oujia Mountain. To the south is the Huan River; to the north is the Dai Stream—both unite in the Long River. There are the Anhua Town and Guisi Town patrol offices. There were also the Puyi, Ji'an, and Beilan town patrol offices, all later abolished.

Xuanhua (seat-attached county). To the east is Kunlun Mountain, atop which stands Kunlun Pass. There is also Heng Mountain and Siyu Mountain. To the north is Matui Mountain. To the southeast is Wangxian Slope, facing the two mountains Qing and Luo across the way. Southwest of the city is the Great River—the Yu River, also known as Yelang Tun Water. Its upper course divides in two: one is the Nanpan River, which passes south of the prefectural city and is called the Right River; the other is the Lijiang, which passes southwest of the prefectural city and is called the Left River. Where they meet is called Hejiang Town; downstream it becomes the Left River of Xun Prefecture. To the east is Jincheng Stockade; to the west is Nanan Stockade; there is also Nalong Stockade and Qianlong Stockade; to the south is Bachai Stockade—five patrol offices.

To the south is the Nanli Township patrol office; to the north is the Wuluo Township patrol office. Farther northeast was the Xiude Township patrol office, moved west of the county during the Jingtai reign and later abolished.

In the first month of Hongwu 21 it was restored and placed under Siming Prefecture. In Hongzhi 18 it came under Nanning Prefecture. To the south is Shiwan Mountain, from which the Shangsi River rises; flowing east it joins the West Little River—the western branch being the Left River that issues from Annam. There is also the Ming River, which likewise rises from Shiwan Mountain and flows west into Siming Prefecture. Farther west is the Qianlong Cave indigenous patrol office. It lay 300 li southeast of the prefecture.

Xialei Prefecture was Xialei Cave under the Yuan. At the beginning of the Hongwu reign it belonged to Zhen'an Prefecture. In Jiajing 43 it came under Nanning Prefecture. In Wanli 18 it was promoted to prefecture status. To the south is the Luo Water, flowing in from Zhen'an Prefecture—a separate source of Nanning Prefecture's Left River. It lay 580 li east of the prefecture.

Si'en Military-Civilian Prefecture was Si'en Prefecture under the Yuan, belonging to Tian Prefecture Route. In Hongwu 2 it belonged to Tian Prefecture; later it was transferred to Yunnan's Guangxi Prefecture. In the eighth month of Yongle 2 it was placed directly under the Guangxi Provincial Administration Commission. In the tenth month of Zhengtong 4 it was promoted to prefecture status. In the eleventh month of Zhengtong 6 it was elevated to a military-civilian prefecture. The old seat lay northwest of the prefecture. In Zhengtong 7 the seat was moved to Qiaoli, northeast of the former location. In the seventh month of Jiajing 7 it was moved again to Huangtian Post in Zhige Village, Wuyuan County, with two li of Zhige carved out and placed under it. To the northwest is Duyang Mountain. To the southeast is Jingyuan Peak. To the north is the Hongshui River; the Tuomeng River, also called the Qingshui River, flows into it here. There is also the Dalan River, rising from Daming Mountain northeast of the city; all flow down into the Yu River. To the east was Fenghua County, established in the seventh month of Zhengde 6 and abolished in the tenth month of Jiajing 8. To the east is Guling; to the west are Dingluo, Nama, and Xiwang; to the north is Xinglong; to the northeast are Baishan and Anding; to the northwest are Jiucheng and Duyang—nine indigenous patrol offices. It governed two prefectures and two counties. It lay 1,200 li northeast of the Provincial Administration Commission.

Fengyi Prefecture was directly subordinate to Guangxi's Liangjiang Circuit under the Yuan. In Hongwu 5 it was abolished and merged into Lai'an Prefecture. In the second month of Hongwu 7 it was restored and placed directly under the Branch Secretariat. In Hongwu 28 it was abolished again, soon restored, and placed directly under the Provincial Administration Commission. In the second month of Jiajing 6 it came under Si'en Military-Civilian Prefecture. To the east is the Old City. The present seat is at Zhaiblin Village; at the beginning of the Hongwu reign it was moved here. To the north it borders the Nanpan River; there is the Zhoumen Ford. It lay 110 li from the prefecture.

In the seventh month of Jiajing 7 it came under Si'en Prefecture. To the north is the Nanpan River; to the south is the Daluo Creek, which flows east to join it—the lower course of the Kurong River.

Wuyuan lies south of the prefecture. Under the Yuan it belonged to Nanning Route. In the tenth month of Wanli 5 it came under Si'en Prefecture. To the west is the Xi River, which is the Dalang River; from the southeast the Nanliu River joins it. To the east is the Moyu Stockade patrol office; there is also the Bose Stockade patrol office; to the west is the Gaojing Stockade patrol office; to the northwest is the Xishe Stockade patrol office—four patrol offices in all. Farther south was the Hengshan Stockade patrol office—now abolished.

Taiping Prefecture was the Yuan Taiping Route, established in the intercalary sixth month of Zhiyuan 29. In the seventh month of Hongwu 2 it became a prefecture. It governed seventeen prefectures and three counties. It lay 2,050 li northeast of the Provincial Administration Commission.

To the east is General Mountain; below it is Weizhen Pass, also called Fubo Pass. To the south is the river before the prefectural seat—the Lijiang; from the west the Luo River also flows in. To the north is Hu Pass, established in Zhengde 3. Farther northeast is Baozhang Pass.

Tian Prefecture was the Yuan Tianzhou Route. In the seventh month of Hongwu 2 it became a prefecture. In the sixth month of Jiajing 7 it was reduced to a prefecture and its seat moved to Bajia, while Tianning Prefecture was established in the former prefectural city. In the tenth month of Jiajing 8 Tianning Prefecture was abolished; Tian Prefecture returned to its former seat and came directly under the Provincial Administration Commission. To the southeast is the Nanpan River. To the west is Laian Route, which under the Yuan belonged to Guangxi's Liangjiang Circuit; in the seventh month of Hongwu 2 it became a prefecture governing Guiren, Luobo, and Tian prefectures, and was abolished again in Hongwu 17. To the north is Shanglong Prefecture, which under the Yuan belonged to Tianzhou Route; in Hongwu 2 it came under Tian Prefecture, and in Chenghua 3 its seat was moved to the northeast of Xun Prefecture and it was renamed Wujing Prefecture. There was also Encheng Prefecture, which under the Yuan belonged to the route and in the early Hongwu reign came under Tian Prefecture; it was abolished in Hongzhi 5. To the east are the Chuangjia, Gongjia, and Lanfeng native districts; to the west are Wulong and Leicai; to the north are Bamajia and Zhuanjia; to the northeast is Xialong; to the southeast is Zhaisang; to the northwest is Lingshi; to the southwest is the Wangangyang Stockade; there are also Dajia and Zijia, and nineteen native patrol offices at Xianjia, Pahe, Payai, Silang, Siyou, and Houzhou. It lay 1,600 li from the Provincial Administration Commission.

Sicheng Prefecture under the Yuan belonged to Tianzhou Route. In Hongwu 7 it came directly under the Branch Secretariat. In Hongwu 9 it came directly under the Provincial Administration Commission. The former seat lay in the southwest; in Hongwu 6 it was moved to Gukan Cave. To the west is the Nanpan River, flowing in from the Muyi Native Official Office in Guizhou; its lower course becomes the You River of Nanning Prefecture. Farther north is the Red Water River. To the northeast is Cheng County, established in Hongwu 21 from Chengchou Manor in Sicheng Prefecture and first attached to the prefecture, then transferred to Qingyuan Prefecture, returned to Sicheng in the Xuande reign, and abolished in Jiajing 1. To the southwest is Lizhou, which under the Yuan belonged to Tianzhou Route; in the eleventh month of Hongwu 7 it came directly under the Provincial Administration Commission, in the fifth month of Zhengtong 6 its seat was moved to Guna Stockade in Sicheng Prefecture, and it was abolished in Jiajing 2. Farther west is the Shanglin Native Official Office, established in Yongle 7 from Shanglin Cave in the prefecture and placed directly under the Provincial Administration Commission; during the Wanli reign it was merged into the prefecture, and in Chongzhen 6 its western territory was divided off into Yunnan's Guangnan Prefecture. There is the Luobo Pass patrol office. It lay 1,815 li north of the Provincial Administration Commission.

The Anlong Native Official Office: under the Yuan, Anlong Prefecture was established in the third month of Zhihe 1 and placed under the Yunnan Branch Secretariat. It was later abolished and reduced to a stockade under Sicheng Prefecture. In the twelfth month of Hongwu 35 the Anlong Native Official Office was established, still under Sicheng Prefecture and later coming directly under the Provincial Administration Commission. To the west is Bada Mountain; the Hunshui River runs beneath it as the Red Water River and flows east into Sicheng Prefecture. Farther southwest is the Tongshe River. The distance from the Provincial Administration Commission is given only as li—the numeral is lost in the received text.
