洪武三年定朝賀樂章。
In the third year of Hongwu, music for court congratulation ceremonies was established.

升殿，奏《飛龍引之曲》。 百官行禮，奏《風雲會之曲》。 丞相致詞，奏《慶皇都之曲》。 復位，百官行禮，奏《喜昇平之曲》。 還宮，奏《賀聖朝之曲》。 俱見後宴饗九奏中。
On ascending the hall, they played "Melody of the Soaring Dragon Prelude." When the officials performed obeisance, they played "Melody of the Gathering of Wind and Clouds." When the chief minister delivered his address, they played "Melody of Celebrating the Imperial Capital." On returning to position, when the officials again performed obeisance, they played "Melody of Rejoicing in Ascending Peace." On returning to the palace, they played "Melody of Congratulating the Holy Dynasty." All of these appear later among the nine banquet pieces.

升殿，韶樂，奏《聖安之曲》：乾坤日月明，八方四海慶太平。 龍樓鳳閣中，扇開簾卷帝王興。 聖感天地靈，保萬壽，洪福增。 祥光王氣生，升寶位，永康寧。
On ascending the hall, with shao music they played "Melody of Sacred Peace": "Heaven and earth, sun and moon shine bright; the eight directions and four seas celebrate great peace." Within the dragon tower and phoenix pavilion, fans open and curtains roll up as the emperor takes his place. The sage moves the spirits of heaven and earth; may he live ten thousand years; may great blessings multiply. Auspicious light and royal aura arise; he ascends the precious throne to eternal peace and tranquility.

還宮，韶樂，奏《定安之曲》：九五飛聖龍，千邦萬國敬依從。 鳴鞭三下同，公卿環珮響玎東，掌扇護御容。 中和樂，音呂濃，翡翠錦繡，擁還華蓋赴龍宮。
On returning to the palace, with shao music they played "Melody of Settled Peace": "The Nine-Five soars as a sacred dragon; a thousand states and ten thousand nations reverently follow." The whip sounded three times and all bowed down; the jade pendants of dukes and ministers chimed; ceremonial fans guarded the emperor's countenance. With moderate and harmonious music, rich in tone, jade-green brocade, they bore him back under the splendid canopy to the dragon palace.

公卿入門，奏《治安之曲》：忠良爲股肱，昊天之德承主恩，森羅拱北辰。 御爐煙繞奉天門，江山社稷興。 安天下，軍與民，龍虎會風雲。 後不用。
When dukes and ministers entered the gate, they played "Melody of Good Governance": "The loyal and good serve as arms and thighs; the virtue of vast Heaven receives the lord's grace; all arrayed bow toward the North Star." Imperial censer smoke coils around Fengtian Gate; the rivers, mountains, and altars of state flourish. To settle the realm, army and people, dragons and tigers meet in wind and clouds. It was later discontinued.

中宮《天香鳳韶之曲》：寶殿光輝晴天映，懸玉鉤珍珠簾櫳，瑤觴舉時簫韶動。 慶大筵，來儀鳳，昭陽玉帛齊朝貢。 贊孝慈賢助仁風，歌謠正在昇平中，謹獻上齊天頌。
For the inner palace, "Melody of Heavenly Fragrance and Phoenix Shao": "The precious hall gleams in the clear sky; jade hooks and pearl curtains hang; when jade goblets are raised, xiao and shao music stirs." Celebrating the great banquet, the ceremonial phoenix arrives; jade and silk from Zhaoyang all pay court tribute together. Praising filial piety and kindness, worthiness assists the wind of benevolence; songs are now in ascending peace

《天香鳳韶之曲》：龍樓鳳閣彤雲曉，開繡簾天香芬馥，瑤階春暖千花簇。 壽聖母，齊頌祝，御筵奏獻長生曲。 坤道寧品類咸育，和氣四時調玉燭，享萬萬年太平福。
"Melody of Heavenly Fragrance and Phoenix Shao": "Dragon tower and phoenix pavilion at rosy-cloud dawn; embroidered curtains open, heavenly fragrance rich; jade steps in spring warmth, a thousand flowers clustered." Wishing long life to the holy mother, all praise and bless. at the imperial banquet they play and offer the melody of long life. The way of earth is tranquil; all kinds are nourished; harmonious qi through the four seasons tunes the jade candle; enjoy ten thousand myriad years of peaceful blessing.

一奏《起臨濠之曲》，名《飛龍引》：千載中華生聖主，王氣成龍虎。 提劍起淮西，將勇師雄，百戰收強虜。
First piece: "Melody of Setting Out from Linhao," titled "Soaring Dragon Prelude": "For a thousand years China bore a sage lord; royal qi formed dragons and tigers." Drawing his sword he rose in west Huai; with brave generals and mighty armies, a hundred battles subdued strong foes.

驅馳鞍馬經寒暑，將士同甘苦。 次第靜風塵，除暴安民，功業如湯武。
Driving horses through cold and heat, officers and soldiers shared hardship alike. Step by step the dust of war was stilled; removing violence and settling the people; achievements like those of Tang and Wu.

二奏《開太平之曲》，名《風雲會》：玉壘瞰江城，風雲繞帝營。 駕樓船龍虎縱橫，飛砲發機驅六甲，降虜將，勝胡兵。
Second piece: "Melody of Opening Great Peace," titled "Gathering of Wind and Clouds": "Jade fortress overlooks the river city; wind and clouds encircle the emperor's camp." Manning tower ships, dragons and tigers ranged far and wide; flying cannon and engines drove the six jia; captive generals surrendered and Hu troops were defeated.

四奏《削羣雄之曲》，名《喜昇平》：持黃鉞，削平荊楚清吳越。 清吳越，暮秦朝晉，幾多豪傑。
Fourth piece: "Melody of Cutting Down the Heroes," titled "Rejoicing in Ascending Peace": "Holding the yellow battle-axe, leveling Jingchu and clearing Wu and Yue." Clearing Wu and Yue. evening Qin, morning Jin — how many heroes there were.

Ninth piece: "Melody of Guarding Lasting Peace," titled "Ten Thousand Years of Spring": "Wind harmonious and rain timely throughout heaven and earth; all together celebrate the season of lasting peace." The jade candle harmonized; sweet dew descended Laying aside arms and cultivating culture; reporting merit and honoring virtue Mountains and rivers firm as rock. the ten thousand regions' common people rejoiced.

長想創業艱難，君臣曾共掃四方豪傑。 露宿宵征鞍馬上，歷盡風霜冰雪。 朝野如今，清寧無事，任用須賢哲。 躬勤節儉，萬年同守王業。 以上九奏，前三奏和緩，中四奏壯烈，後二奏舒長。 其曲皆按月律。
Long remembering the hardship of founding the enterprise. ruler and ministers once together swept the heroes of the four directions. Sleeping in the open, marching by night on horseback. enduring wind, frost, and snow. Court and countryside now — clear and tranquil, nothing amiss. employment must be of wise and sagely men. Personally diligent and frugal. for ten thousand years together guarding the royal enterprise. Of the above nine pieces, the first three are gentle and moderate, the middle four are bold and fierce, the last two are expansive and prolonged. Their melodies all follow the monthly pitch standards.

First month, taicu; original mode huangzhong shang, common name dashi; melody title "Ten Thousand Years of Spring": "Playing heaven, receiving the mandate, holding the yellow banner; the aim is to settle the people and remove evil." Once beheld mid-heaven soaring with royal qi. five-colored rainbow a thousand feet. Second month, jiazhong; original mode jiazhong gong, common name zhonglü; melody title "Jade Street Processional": "Mountain forests — jackals and tigers; central plains — foxes and hares; the four seas' heroes beyond count." The Great Ming true lord rose at Linhao. awed by his majesty, at one wrath in military garb.

星羅玉壘，雲屯鐵騎，一掃乾坤煙霧。 黎民重睹太平年，慶萬里山河磐固。

三月姑洗，本宮太簇商，俗名大石，曲名《賀聖朝》：雲氣朝生芒碭間，虹光夜起鳳凰山。 江淮一日真主出，華夏千年正統還。
Third month, guxian; original mode taicu shang, common name dashi; melody title "Congratulating the Holy Dynasty": "Cloud qi at dawn arose between Mang and Dang; rainbow light at night rose on Phoenix Mountain." On Jiang and Huai in one day the true lord appeared; china's thousand-year orthodox line returned.

瞻日角，睹天顏，雲龍風虎競追攀。 君臣勤苦成王業，王業汪洋被百蠻。

四月仲呂，本宮無射徵，俗名黃鐘正徵，曲名《喜昇平》：風雲密，濠梁千載真龍出。 真龍出，鯨鯢豺虎，掃除無跡。
Fourth month, zhonglü; original mode wushe zhi, common name huangzhong zheng zhi; melody title "Rejoicing in Ascending Peace": "Wind and clouds dense; at Haoliang after a thousand years the true dragon emerged." 六月林鐘，本宮夾鍾角，俗名中呂角，曲名《慶皇都》：王氣呈祥飛紫鳳，虎嘯龍興，千里旌旗動。 四海歡呼師旅衆，天戈一指風雲從。
Sixth month, linzhong; original mode jiazhong jue, common name zhonglü jue; melody title "Celebrating the Imperial Capital": "Royal qi presented auspicious signs, purple phoenix soaring; tiger roar, dragon rise; a thousand li of banners moved." The four seas rejoiced, armies and hosts cheered. at one point of the heavenly halberd wind and clouds followed.

Seventh month, yize; original mode nanlü shang, common name zhongguan shangjue; melody title "Everlasting Great Peace": "Phoenix auspicious qi is fine; the royal army raised the righteous cause; heaven and earth at first light." 八月南呂，本宮南呂宮，俗名中管仙呂，曲名《鳳凰吟》：紫微翠蓋擁蓬萊，聖天子，帝圖開。 歷數應江淮，看五色雲生上臺。

Eleventh month, huangzhong; original mode yize jue, common name xianlü jue; melody title "Golden Gate Joy": "Celebrating the sage lord of brilliant Ming opening the precious reign; rising at Linhao." Just then dust flew on Ru and Ying; waves rolled on Jiang and Huai The heavenly halberd vigorously raised the righteous cause. embracing divine troops, a million in all, outstanding heroes. Brave tigers by day massed at ramparts. rainbow by night coiled around bow and blade.

鳳凰同勢聳層霄，佳氣五雲高。 愛士伍同心，君臣協力，不憚勤勞。 風雲一時相會，看魚龍飛舞出波濤。 靜掃八方氛祲，咸聽九奏簫韶。

Loving officers and soldiers, sharing one heart; ruler and ministers cooperating Wind and clouds for a time met together. behold fish and dragon flying and dancing out of the waves. Civil dance music, titled "Great Steps Pacified": "Heaven and earth clear and tranquil; governing achievements announced complete; martial power settled calamity and disorder; civil culture brought great peace." At the suburban altar then offering its rites. at the temple then exhausting its sincerity. Auspicious clouds in heaven, sweet dew descends. wind and rain timely, the hundred grains rise. Ritual and music harmonious. government and punishments solemn and clear. The heir apparent already established. enfeoffment then carried out. Slanderers and flatterers barred from the four seas. worthy and outstanding men stood at court. Jade and silk, bells and drums arrayed in the two rows. ruler and ministers continuing songs, raising the sound of proclamation.

From east, west, south, and north they come to court; the realm is harmonized, spring light spread abroad; the four Yi are guests, and the teaching's sound is fair. Since antiquity the bright king has been careful in virtue and need not rely on arms to tame the Rong and Di. Auspicious omens gather; the phoenix comes in ceremony. Harmonious qi arises. auspicious omens appear. He rectifies the ten thousand people and employs the multitude of worthies. Robes draped, he attends the classics hall; in night garments he is diligent in the government hall. At the circular altar the great sacrifice is refined and sincere; bright water is pure; the dark jade disk is round. Holding Zhou's culture and receiving Yin's offerings, he cherishes the royal house for ten thousand myriad years.

"Dance of Pacifying the Four Yi," first, "Congratulating the Holy Court": Chinese and Yi are one; ten thousand states come together. They present local products and repair court tribute, admiring the imperial wind from south, north, west, and east. Gazing at the heaven palace, fine qi lies dense in layers; qilin, phoenix, tortoise, and dragon — the four numina all arrive. Second, "Hall Delight": auspicious clouds and clear haze float over the palace halls as one pulse of yang harmony turns. Rites accomplished and peace exchanged, the Zhou banquet opens; phoenix sheng is tuned and the dragon canopy spread; heaven's heart is moved and the people rejoice; songs of praise fill the four seas. Third, "Celebrating Abundant Harvest": relying on bright heaven's gift of harvest, diligent as Yu in grain and strong as Shun in the fields, they joyfully comfort the three farmers' wish. Fine grain is splendid, the wheat auspicious and fresh; tribute comes from nine regions and is presented from eight borders. Spirit granaries and imperial storehouses are full; nourishing the people nourishes the worthy. Fourth, "New Water Order": refined sacrifice of sage virtue reaches the bright vault; great unity. The four Yi come with tribute; jade and silk are held high. Writing and chariots are one; generations meet in prosperity; together they hear the cart-men's praise. Fifth, "Great Peace Command": bright sacrifice is manifest; heaven mirrors the primary consort; her light fills the four quarters; grace flows week by week. From four frontiers they hurry forward and crowd behind, presenting ten thousand treasures that fill court and park. Bow and press the head — heaven is high, earth is thick; they wish the sage many sons, blessing, and long life.

Six dragons fly on the ninefold heaven; between five-colored clouds a double brocade phoenix; all within the seas emulate Hua and Feng — truly in harmony with the He-clear hymn.

Third, "Rolling Embroidered Ball": the five-cloud carriage crosses the ninefold height; profit lies in seeing the soaring dragon. Radiant robes and insignia show fire-algae and flowery insects. They strike tiger drums and examine wild-geese bells; crocodile drums boom. Eight delicacies are arrayed; nine tripods stand abundant. Yao's brows lift with color, Shun's double pupils shine; ten thousand states prosper and four seas harmonize — together they sing sage virtue and divine achievement. Fourth, "Hall Delight": on the day of the middle revival of ten thousand years' ritual and music, great transformation again shows flourishing harmony. River clear, sea calm — auspicious omens arrive; five phases orderly, seven regulators aligned; surpassing three and exceeding five at the yuan meeting, drunk they praise the wild geese. Fifth, "All Under Heaven Joy": ten thousand spirits bow toward the clear capital; enjoying the southern suburb, revering heaven and following ancestors. May the sage receive qian and accept blessing; central harmony in position and nurture; the tortoise presents its model, the horse its diagram. Sixth, "Drunk Great Peace": the ten-thousand-year rule of ritual and music; songs of praise — four seas prosperous. Robes and caps tread dance on the nine-dragon steps as Lizheng looks up to southern li. Purple clouds high uphold the Tang-Yu emperor; draping robes, all under heaven is civilly governed. Hao birds and Qi phoenix present auspicious omens — truly mankind is in the age of accomplished Zhou.

Avoiding cold and heat they nested in caves, wore tree leaves and sought one another — how was loving kin? Worldly feeling governed life. Though mixed, each settled their nature.

Human ranks are distinguished; ten thousand things increase; the sage receives qian; hundred blessings arrive. Spreading law bright; revering heaven's mandate; later courts all follow correctness.

Only for officials' kowtow rites was the "Facing Heaven" piece used. When the banquet finished, guiding the carriage back to the palace used "Imperial Carriage Song."

Second, "Great Peace Command": effecting the sage above in sincere diligence; main vessel strict in "Spring and Autumn"; pitch and tubes harmonized, immortal music together performed; revering royal government — bright heaven protects. They bow, dance, prostrate themselves, offer congratulations, and advance wine, wishing health, blessing, and long life.
