先是，阿思罕為太師，鐵木叠兒奪其位，出之為陜西行省丞相，及教化等至，即與平章政事塔察兒、行臺御史大夫脫裏伯、中丞脫歡，悉發關中兵，分道自潼關、河中府入。 Earlier, Ashan had been grand preceptor; Tiemudie'er seized his post and sent him out as Shaanxi branch secretariat grand councillor; when Jiaohua and the others arrived, he immediately joined branch secretariat grand councillor Taqachar, branch surveillance censor-in-chief Tulibai, and surveillance vice censor Tughon in fully mobilizing the Guanzhong armies, advancing in separate columns through Tong Pass and Hezhong Prefecture.

已而塔察兒、脫歡襲殺阿思罕、教化於河中，帝遂西行，至北邊金山。 Before long Taqachar and Tughon launched a surprise attack and killed Ashan and Jiaohua at Hezhong; he then went west and reached the Golden Mountain on the northern frontier.

服除，起知河中府，視事始兩月，陝西行省丞相阿思罕為亂，舉兵至河中。 When mourning ended he was recalled as prefect of Hezhong. He had been in office only two months when Ashihan, chancellor of the Shaanxi Branch Secretariat, rebelled and marched on the city.

阿思罕軍列柵河西岸，使來索舟，天孚度不能拒，凡八遣人至晉寧乞援兵，不報。 Ashihan's army camped on the west bank and demanded boats. Tianfu knew he could not hold them off; eight times he sent to Jining for reinforcements, but none came.

居七日，阿思罕縛筏河上，欲縱火屠城，同知府事鐵哥，與河東廉訪副使明安荅見事急，且患城中人偪，乃詣阿思罕軍，阿思罕囚之，而斂船濟兵。 After seven days Ashihan lashed rafts on the river, intending to burn the city and slaughter its people. The co-prefect Tiege and the Hedong surveillance vice-commissioner Ming'anda, seeing the crisis and fearing pressure from the townspeople, went to Ashihan's camp. He imprisoned them and gathered boats to ferry his troops across.

兵既入城，阿思罕以扼河渡、鎖舟楫為天孚罪，欲脅使附己。 Once his troops were in the city, Ashihan blamed Tianfu for blocking the crossing and seizing the boats and tried to force him to join the rebellion.

方坐府治，號令諸軍，天孚佩刀直前，衆遏之，不得進。 As Ashihan sat in the prefectural hall giving orders, Tianfu drew his sword and strode forward, but the crowd blocked him and he could not reach him.

且與其辱於阿思罕之手，吾寧蹈河以死。」 I would rather throw myself into the river than suffer dishonor at Ashihan's hands."

阿思罕大怒，籍其家。 Ashihan was furious and confiscated his family's property.
