嘉慶初，海盜方肆，新子本俊官京師，御史宋樹疏言新家書及海盜事，不以聞。 Early in Jiaqing, when pirates were rampant, Xin's son Benjun served in Beijing; Censor Song Shu charged that family letters from Xin about piracy had not been reported to the throne.

上為詰本俊，本俊言新已具疏令謄真入奏，上亦不之責，仍諭新毋畏。 The emperor questioned Benjun, who said Xin had already drafted a memorial for submission; the emperor did not blame him and told Xin not to be afraid.
