初，李靈為高宗博士、諮議，[1]詔崔浩選中書學生器業優者為助教。 Earlier, Li Ling had served Emperor Gaozong as Erudite and Consulting Aide. An edict ordered Cui Hao to choose the most capable students at the Secretariat school to serve as assistant teachers.

遂除中書助教博士，稍見任用，入授高宗經。 He was appointed Assistant Teacher and Erudite of the Secretariat, was gradually given greater responsibility, and entered the palace to instruct the crown prince in the classics.

高宗即位，訢以舊恩親寵，遷儀曹尚書，領中祕書，賜爵扶風公，加安東將軍，贈其母孫氏為容城君。 When Gaozong came to the throne, Xin was favored for old ties of affection. He was promoted to Director of the Ceremonial Bureau, placed concurrently in charge of the Inner Secretariat, enfeoffed as Duke of Fufeng, given the additional title General Who Pacifies the East, and his mother, Lady Sun, was honored as Lady of Rongcheng.

高宗顧謂羣臣曰：「朕始學之歲，情未能專，既總萬機，溫習靡暇，是故儒道實有闕焉。 Gaozong turned to the ministers and said: "When I first began my studies, my mind could not yet concentrate; once I took charge of the myriad affairs of state, I had no leisure to review what I had learned. Thus my learning in the Confucian Way is indeed deficient.
