世祖由是愛之。 Emperor Shizu therefore favored him.

既為太孫，世祖有疾，又令楊氏禱祀。 Once he became grand heir apparent, when Emperor Shizu fell ill he again had Lady Yang perform prayers and sacrifices.

時何妃猶在西州，世祖疾稍危，太孫與何妃書，紙中央作一大喜字，而作三十六小喜字繞之。。 At that time Consort He was still at Xizhou. When Emperor Shizu's illness grew critical, the grand heir wrote to Consort He; in the center of the paper he drew one large character for joy, surrounded by thirty-six smaller joy characters.

侍世祖疾，言發淚下。 When attending Emperor Shizu in his illness, he spoke and tears fell.

世祖以為必能負荷大業，謂曰：「五年中一委宰相，汝勿措意； Emperor Shizu thought he would surely be able to bear the great enterprise and said to him, "For five years leave everything entirely to the chief minister; do not concern yourself;

臨終，執其手曰：「若憶翁，當好作！」 At the end of his life he took his hand and said, "If you remember your old grandfather, you must do well!"

大斂始畢，悉呼世祖諸伎，備奏眾樂。。 As soon as the grand dressing of the corpse was finished, he summoned all of Emperor Shizu's performers and had every sort of music played.
