〈（《澠水燕談》：範質初舉進士，時和凝知貢舉，凝嘗以宰輔自期，登第之日，名第十三人，及覽質文，尤加賞嘆，即以第十三名處之，場屋間謂之「傳衣缽」，若禪宗之相付授也。〈From Talks and Tales of the Mian Waters〉: When Fan Zhi first sat for the Jinshi, He Ning oversaw the examinations. Ning had long expected the chief ministership; on the day he passed, his own name was thirteenth. Reading Zhi's essay he admired it still more and placed him thirteenth.
