於是推舉賢才,委以庶政,以河東裴嶷、代郡魯昌、北平陽耽為謀主,北海逢羨、廣平遊邃、北平西方虔、渤海封抽、西河宋奭、河東裴開為股肱,渤海封弈、平原宋該、安定皇甫岌、蘭陵繆愷以文章才俊任居樞要,會稽硃左車、太山胡毋翼、魯國孔纂以舊德清重引為賓友,平原劉贊儒學該通,引為東庠祭酒,其世子皝率國胄束修受業焉。
He therefore promoted men of talent and entrusted them with government: Pei Yi of Hedong, Lu Chang of Dai, and Yang Dan of Beiping served as his chief advisers; Feng Xian of Beihai, You Sui of Guangping, Xifang Qian of Beiping, Feng Chou of Bohai, Song Shi of Xihe, and Pei Kai of Hedong were his arms and legs; Feng Yi of Bohai, Song Gai of Pingyuan, Huangfu Ji of Anding, and Miao Kai of Lanling, all distinguished for literary talent and ability, held key posts; Zhu Zuoche of Kuaiji, Humu Yi of Taishan, and Kong Zuan of Lu, respected for their old virtue and pure standing, were brought in as guests and friends; and Liu Zan of Pingyuan, broadly learned in the classics, was appointed libationer of the Eastern Academy, where his heir Murong Huang led the sons of the state in bringing tuition gifts and receiving instruction.

咸和九年,皝遣其司馬封弈攻鮮卑木堤于白狼,揚威淑虞攻烏丸悉羅侯于平岡,皆斬之。
In the ninth year of Xianhe, Huang sent Marshal Feng Yi to strike the Xianbei leader Muti at Bailang and Shuyu to strike the Wuhuan Siluohou at Pinggang; both enemy heads were taken.
旬余,蘭、翰復圍柳城,皝遣甯遠慕容汗及封弈等救之。
Ten-odd days later Duan Lan and Murong Han, the kinsman who had joined Duan Liao, again besieged Liucheng; Huang sent the Ningyuan general, a different Murong Han, together with Feng Yi and others to relieve the city.
汗性驍銳,遣千餘騎為前鋒而進,封弈止之,汗不從,為蘭所敗,死者大半。
Murong Han was impetuous: he sent a thousand horse ahead as a van, ignored Feng Yi’s warning, and was routed by Duan Lan with heavy losses.

Early in Xiankang he sent Feng Yi against Sheyiyu of a separate Yuwen division and returned with rich spoils.

Feng Yi chased with light horse, seized their supplies, and fed his men from enemy granaries for twenty days.

When Duan Liao’s riders appeared, Feng Yi caught them in a pincer, slew Rong Bao, and routed the column.
使其世子俊伐段遼諸城,封弈攻宇文別部,皆大捷而歸。
His heir Murong Jun stormed Duan Liao’s towns while Feng Yi struck the Yuwen—both returned in triumph.
封弈等以皝任重位輕,宜稱燕王,皝於是以咸康三年僭即王位,赦其境內。
Feng Yi and others, holding that Huang’s burden was heavy while his rank was light, urged him to style himself King of Yan; Huang thereupon in the third year of Xiankang illegitimately assumed the kingship and pardoned those within his borders.
以封弈為國相,韓壽為司馬,裴開、陽騖、王寓、李洪、杜群、宋該、劉瞻、石琮、皇甫真、陽協、宋晃、平熙、張泓等並為列卿將帥。
