侂胄逡巡將退，重華宮提舉關禮見而問之，侂胄具述汝愚意。
As Tuozhou hesitated to leave, Guan Li, commissioner for Chonghua rites, saw him and asked what was wrong. Tuozhou explained Ruyu's plan in full.
禮令少俟，入見憲聖而泣。
Li told him to wait, went in to see Xiansheng, and wept.
憲聖問故，禮曰：「聖人讀書萬卷，亦嘗見有如此時而保無亂者乎？」
When she asked why, Li said, "Your Majesty has read ten thousand books—has any age like this ever stayed free of chaos?"
禮曰：「此事人人知之，今丞相已去，所賴者趙知院，旦夕亦去矣。」
Li replied, "Everyone knows it. The chief minister is already gone. All that remains is Controller Zhao—and he will be gone any day now."
禮曰：「知院未去，非但以同姓故，以太皇太后爲可恃耳。
Li said, "He has not left yet only because he still trusts the Grand Empress Dowager—not merely because he shares your surname.
憲聖問侂胄安在，禮曰：「臣已留其俟命。」
She asked where Tuozhou was. Li said, "I have kept him waiting outside for your word."
禮報侂胄，且云：「來早太皇太后于壽皇梓宮前垂簾引執政。」
Li reported to Tuozhou and added, "Tomorrow morning the Grand Empress Dowager will draw the curtain before Xiaozong's coffin and receive the chief ministers."
侂胄復命，汝愚始以其事語陳騤、余端禮，使郭杲及步帥閻仲夜以兵衛南北內，禮使其姻黨宣贊舍人傅昌朝密制黃袍。
Tuozhou brought word back. Ruyu then told Chen Tuan and Yu Duanli, had Guo Gao and infantry commander Yan Zhong post troops at both palaces, and Li had his kinsman, palace announcer Fu Changchao, secretly make the imperial yellow robe.

明日，汝愚再遣侂胄附宗尹以奏，未獲命而侂胄退，與禮遇，禮知其意，問之，侂胄不以告。
Next day Ruyu sent Tuozhou again through Zongyin; before an answer came Tuozhou met Li; Li sensed the plot and asked; Tuozhou would not tell.
禮指天自誓不言，侂胄遂白其事，禮即入宮， 泣告太后以時事可憂之狀，且曰：“留丞相已去，所恃者趙知院耳。
Li swore by Heaven he would keep silent; Tuozhou then confided; Li rushed in weeping to tell the empress dowager the realm was in peril: “Chancellor Liu is gone—we have only Director Zhao.
禮 曰：“知院未去，恃有太后耳。
Li said, “He stays only because you remain.
太后悟，遂命禮傳旨侂胄以諭汝愚，約明日太后垂簾上其事。
She understood, ordered Li to tell Tuozhou to inform Ruyu, and set the morrow for a curtained audience.
尋除禮入內內侍省都知，又差兼重華、慈福宮承受，充提舉皇城司，遷中侍大夫。
Li was made Inner Entering Director, receiver for Chonghua and Cifu palaces, superintendent of the Imperial City Office, and Palace Attendant Grandee.
禮不以功自居，乞致仕，不許；
Li refused merit; he begged to retire—denied;
南渡後，內侍可稱者惟邵成章與禮雲。
After the flight south, only Shao Chengzhang and Li among eunuchs deserve praise.
