父徽，魏末坐事當徙涼州，行至河、渭間，遇賊，以軍功得免流。 His father Hui, at the end of Wei, was implicated in a crime and condemned to exile in Liangzhou. Between the Yellow and Wei rivers he met bandits and, through military service, won release from banishment.

徽於神武舊恩甚篤。 Hui and Gao Huan shared a deep old bond.

及神武平京洛，迎徽喪與穆同營葬。 When Gao Huan pacified Luoyang, he brought Hui's coffin home and buried him in the same tomb compound as Lady Mu.

初徽嘗過長安市，與婦人王氏私通而生歸彥，至是年已九歲。 Hui had once passed through the Chang'an market and had an affair with a woman of the Wang clan, who gave birth to Guiyan; by this time the boy was already nine.
