先是，有訟宰相劉慎行與子婦姚氏私者，有司出其罪。 Earlier, a suit had accused Chancellor Liu Shenxing of impropriety with his son's wife, Lady Yao, and the authorities had found grounds for punishment.

時慎行諸子皆處權要，以白斷百姓分籍事不直，坐左遷。 Shenxing's sons then held every lever of power. Bai was demoted on the charge that his ruling in a dispute over commoners' household registers had been unjust.

子慎行，孫一德、二玄、三嘏、四端、五常、六符，皆具六符傳。 His son was Shenxing; his grandsons Yide, Erxuan, Sangu, Siduan, Wuchang, and Liufu are all covered in the following account of Liu Liufu.

劉六符，父慎行，由膳部員外郎累遷至北府宰相、監修國史。 Liu Liufu was the son of Shenxing, who had risen from vice director of the Board of Foodstuffs to grand councilor of the Northern Chancellery and supervisor of the national history.

時上多即宴飲行誅賞，慎行諫曰：「以喜怒加威福，恐未當。」 At that time the emperor often pronounced punishments and rewards while drinking at court. Shenxing urged him, saying, "To grant authority and favor according to mood is hardly proper."
