後呂諲、王仲昇及中官皆言瑱布恩惠，懼其得士心，以瑱為鄧州刺史，充山南東道襄、鄧、唐、復、郢、隨等六州節度，余並如故。 Later Lü Shen, Wang Zhongsheng, and the eunuchs said Zhen was buying loyalty and might win the army's devotion. He was shifted to Dengzhou and given six prefectures; other titles stood.

俄而淮西節度王仲昇與賊將謝欽讓戰於申州城下，為賊所虜。 Soon Huai-Xi governor Wang Zhongsheng fought rebel general Xie Qinrang below Shenzhou and was taken prisoner.

初，仲昇被圍累月，呂諲病於江陵，瑱在襄州，又恐仲昇構己，遂顧望不救。 Zhongsheng had been besieged for months. Lü Shen lay ill at Jiangling; Zhen at Xiangzhou feared a plot against himself and held back from relief.

及師出，仲昇已沒。 When the troops finally marched, Zhongsheng had already fallen into rebel hands.

時中官驃騎大將軍程元振居中用事，發瑱言涉不順，王仲昇賊平來歸，證瑱與賊合，故令仲昇陷賊三年。 The eunuch Cheng Yuanzhen then dominated the court. He claimed that Zhen's words smacked of treason; after the rebels were pacified, Wang Zhongsheng returned and testified that Zhen had colluded with them and had deliberately left him in rebel hands for three years.

初，展有異志，淮西節度使王仲昇表其狀，詔遷揚州長史兼江淮都統，密詔景山執送京師。 Earlier Liu Zhan had harbored a different intent; Huainan West military governor Wang Zhongsheng memorialized his conduct; the emperor ordered him moved to Yangzhou chief administrator and concurrent commander of Jiang-Huai, with a secret edict to Jingshan to arrest him and send him to the capital.

肅宗聞其謀，惡之，呂諲、王仲昇等皆言「瑱得士心，不可以留』，乃改山南東道襄、鄧、唐、復、隨、郢六州節度。 Suzong learned of the maneuver and took offense; Lü Yin, Wang Zhongsheng, and others argued, "Zhen has won the army's loyalty and must not be left in place," so his command was reduced to six prefectures on the Shannan East circuit.

俄而仲昇與賊戰申州，為賊禽。 Soon afterward Wang Zhongsheng fought the rebels at Shenzhou and was taken prisoner.

初，仲昇被圍，而江陵呂諲病，瑱顧望不即救，及師出，仲昇已沒。 When Zhongsheng was first surrounded, Lü Yin at Jiangling lay ill and Zhen delayed sending relief; by the time his army set out, Zhongsheng had already fallen into enemy hands.

會王仲昇歸，又言由瑱與賊合，故陷賊。 When Wang Zhongsheng returned from captivity he added that Zhen had colluded with the rebels and deliberately left him to be taken.
