九年，誤聽湖北巡撫高杞言，劾湖廣總督吳熊光受賄，不得實，後復以獨對時密諭私告杞，事覺，下廷臣議罪，以大辟上。 In the ninth year he wrongly believed Hubei Governor Gao Qi, impeached Huguang Governor-General Wu Xiongguang for bribery without proof, and was later found to have privately relayed to Qi a secret instruction from a private audience; exposed, the court deliberated punishment and recommended death.

十三年，英吉利兵船入澳門，總督吳熊光但停貿易，未遣兵驅逐，上斥畏葸，罷熊光，調玉庭貴州。 In the thirteenth year British warships entered Macao. Governor Wu Xiongguang merely suspended trade and sent no troops to expel them. The emperor denounced his timidity, removed him from office, and transferred Sun Yuting to Guizhou.

尋百齡至粵，追論熊光，且劾玉庭不以實入告，坐罷歸。 Soon afterward Bailin arrived in Guangdong, reopened the case against Wu Xiongguang, and also impeached Sun Yuting for failing to report the facts truthfully. Sun Yuting was dismissed and sent home.
