明年，華州刺史蕭齡之以前任廣州都督贓事發，製付群官集議。 The following year bribery from Xiao Lingzhi's term as governor of Guangzhou came to light; the emperor ordered a panel of officials to deliberate.

今議蕭齡之事，有輕有重，重者流死，輕者請除名。 In deliberating Xiao Lingzhi's case, some urged severity—exile or death—while others asked only that he be struck from the rolls.

以齡之受委大藩，贓罪狼籍，原情取事，死有餘辜。 Lingzhi had been entrusted with a great frontier post and his bribery was notorious; judged on the facts, death would not exceed his guilt.

蕭齡之嘗任廣州都督，受賕當死，詔群臣議，請論如法，詔戮於朝堂。 Xiao Lingzhi had once served as military governor of Guangzhou. Having accepted bribes, he was liable to death. The emperor ordered the ministers to deliberate and directed that he be judged according to law; an edict then ordered execution in the court hall.

今齡之貪贓狼扈，死有餘咎。 Lingzhi's greed and corruption were wanton, and death would not have been excessive punishment.

齡之，齊高帝五世孫，由是免死。 Lingzhi was a fifth-generation descendant of Emperor Gao of Qi and thus escaped death.
