三月，齊遣其上黨王高渙送貞陽侯蕭淵明來主梁嗣，至東關，遣吳興太守裴之橫與戰，敗績，之橫死。 In the third month Qi sent Prince of Shangdang Gao Huan to escort Zhenyang marquis Xiao Yuanming to take the Liang succession; at Dong Pass Wuxing administrator Pei Zhiheng fought them and was defeated and killed.

七月辛丑，王僧辯納貞陽侯蕭淵明，自採石濟江。 On xinchou in the seventh month Wang Sengbian received Zhenyang marquis Xiao Yuanming and crossed from Caishi.

九月甲辰，司空陳霸先舉義，襲殺王僧辯，黜蕭淵明。 On jiachen in the ninth month Minister of Works Chen Baxian rose in revolt, killed Wang Sengbian in a surprise attack, and deposed Xiao Yuanming.

以貞陽侯淵明爲司徒，封建安郡公，食邑三千戶。 Zhenyang marquis Yuanming was made Minister of Education and enfeoffed as Duke of Jian'an with three thousand households.

癸丑，進太尉蕭循爲太保，新除司徒建安公淵明爲太傅，司徒蕭勃爲太尉。 On guichou Grand Master of War Xiao Xun was promoted to Grand Mentor; newly appointed Minister of Education Duke of Jian'an Yuanming became Grand Tutor; Minister of Education Xiao Bo became Grand Master of War.

五月癸未，太傅建安公淵明薨。 In the fifth month, on guiwei day, Yuanming, Duke of Jian'an and grand tutor, died.

此年冬，豫州刺史貞陽侯蕭淵明率衆伐彭城，兵敗陷魏。 That winter Marquis Zhenyang, Xiao Yuanming, governor of Yuzhou, led troops against Pengcheng; the army was defeated and Yuanming fell into Wei hands.

二年，淵明遣使還，述魏人欲更通和好，敕有司及近臣定議。 In the second year Yuanming sent envoys back, saying the Wei wished renewed peace; an edict ordered the relevant offices and nearby ministers to decide.

此必是設間，故令貞陽遣使，令侯景自疑當以貞陽易景。 This must be a stratagem: he has Zhenyang send envoys so Hou Jing will suspect he is to be exchanged for Zhenyang.
