睿親王薨，是夏，御史張煊劾名夏結黨行私，銓選不公，下王大臣會鞫，譚泰袒名夏，坐煊誣奏，論死。 When the Prince Regent died, that summer Censor Zhang Xuan memorialized against Mingxia for forming factions, pursuing private ends, and making unfair appointments; the prince and great ministers were ordered to interrogate the case jointly; Tan Tai shielded Mingxia, and Xuan was convicted of false memorializing and sentenced to death.

迨秋，譚泰以罪誅，九年春，復命王大臣按煊所劾名夏罪狀，名夏辨甚力。 By autumn Tan Tai was executed for crimes; in the spring of the ninth year the prince and great ministers were again ordered to investigate the offenses against Mingxia that Xuan had memorialized, and Mingxia defended himself vigorously.

御史張煊劾大學士陳名夏，語涉之遴，鞫不實，免議，加太子太保，九年，授弘文院大學士。 Censor Zhang Xuan memorialized against Grand Secretary Chen Mingxia with language implicating Zhilin; interrogation found no substance and he was exempted from censure; he was given the added title of Junior Guardian of the Heir Apparent; in the ninth year he was appointed Grand Secretary of the Hongwen Institute.

五月，御史張煊劾大學士陳名夏等，下王大臣會鞫。 In the fifth month Censor Zhang Xuan impeached Chen Mingxia and other grand secretaries; princes and ministers were convened to try the case.

譚泰袒名夏，讞上，命未下，譚泰前奏，言煊劾皆虛，且所舉諸事皆在赦前，煊以外轉嫌，誣名夏等死罪，當反坐，煊遂見法。 Tan Tai protected Mingxia; before the sentence was issued he argued that Zhang's charges were false and predated the amnesty—that Zhang, posted elsewhere, bore a grudge and had framed Mingxia for death, and should suffer the penalty himself; Zhang was executed.

上自譚泰袒陳名夏構張煊，心厭惡之。 Since Tan Tai had shielded Chen Mingxia and destroyed Zhang Xuan, the emperor had come to loathe him.
