In the eighth month Yan Bao surrendered Xingzhou. Zhuangzong praised him, raised him to acting Grand Commandant and Grand Councilor, and gave him titular command of Tianping and the southeastern campaign, treating him as an honored guest and ranking him above the other generals. On every major plan Zhuangzong consulted him and followed his counsel.
