In spring of Qianlong 31, on the first-month new moon, Hongli ordered a one-time canal-tax remission in every province after thirty years on the throne. On jiaxu, fourteen Gansu and three Shaanxi districts were forgiven back taxes. On bingxu, Yunnan forces lost a fight with Mang bandits at Mengzhu. Yang Yingqi took Yunnan-Guizhou; Wu Dashan, Shaanxi-Gansu; He Hezhong became protector. Liu Zao took Huguang; Tang Pin acted as Shaanxi governor. On guisi, Zhuang Yougong, minister of punishments, lost his post and property for a false verdict in Duan Chenggong's impeachment. Li Shiyao took punishments; Zhang Taikai, rites; Fan Shishou, left censor-in-chief.

In month 2, renyin, Liu Zao became Hubei governor but still faced joint inquiry with Yunnan commander Da Qi. Ding Chang took Huguang; Li Yinpei, Fujian; Chang Jun, Hunan; Tang Pin, Yunnan. On gengxu, Hongli worshipped at the Eastern Tombs. On xinhai, He Hezhong was arrested for masking Duan Chenggong's losses. Shuhede acted as Shaanxi-Gansu governor-general. Sida was sent to Shaanxi to try Duan Chenggong's deficit case with Zhang Bao. Mingshan took Shaanxi; Wu Shaoshi, Jiangxi. On gengshen, Hongli returned to Beijing. On xinyou, Zhuang Yougong was condemned to death. On renxu, Hongli worshipped at Tailing. On guihai, Liu Zao lost rank but stayed in Yunnan on duty. On jiazi, E Ning became Hubei governor. In month 3, dinghai, Liu Zao killed himself in fear of trial. On jichou, Yang Yingqi reported Menglong tusi submitting again.

In month 4, xinchou, Yang Yingqi reported Damengyang's chief submitting; troops moved on Zhengqian and Menggen. On renyin, with Zhengqian crushed, the court announced victory at home and abroad. On bingwu, He Hezhong was condemned to death and Duan Chenggong was executed. On dingwei, thirteen Yunnan tusi including Puteng were tax-exempt for the year and for Menglong arrears. On jiazi, two hundred thirteen graduates including Zhang Shuxun received jinshi ranks.

In month 5, jiaxu, Hongli prayed for rain at Black Dragon Pool. On wuyin, the Zhengyi celestial master was granted third rank. On bingxu, Hongli again prayed for rain at Black Dragon Pool.

In month 6, bingwu, Yang Yingqi reported Mengyong and Menglongsha chiefs submitting. On wushen, the late Jesuit painter Lang Shining received posthumous vice-minister rank.

In month 7, bingzi, Hongli and the Empress Dowager left for the Mulan autumn hunt. On jimao, Arigun and Yu Minzhong joined the hunt; Shuhede also took revenue. On renwu, Hongli and the Empress Dowager reached the Summer Resort. That same day, the Empress died. On guiwei, Hongli ruled the Empress would be buried as an imperial noble consort for failing filial duties on the Jiang-Zhe tour. On guisi, Li Yuming was exiled to Yili for protesting the Empress's reduced funeral. On dingyou, Yang Yingqi reported Buhada and Mengsa chiefs submitting.

In month 8, jihai, thirteen Hunan flood districts were relieved. On guichou, Hongli hunted at Mulan. Zhuang Yougong was pardoned and made Fujian governor. On jiayin, locusts swarmed Yili. On yimao, the Hanjiatang dike broke at Tongshan, Jiangsu. On guihai, Chahar deputy commands were cut to one man at Zhangjiakou.

In month 9, renshen, eleven Gansu drought counties were tax-exempt. On jimao, sixty Shandong flood districts were relieved and lost new and old taxes. On yiwei, Yang Yingqi took Mubang's surrender at Yongchang.

In month 10, jihai, Hongli and the Empress Dowager returned to Beijing. On wushen, Yang Yingqi reported chiefs of Zhengmai, Jingxian, and Jinghai submitting. On xinhai, the Hanjiatang break was sealed. War minister Peng Qifeng was demoted to vice-minister. On jiayin, Lu Zongkai became war minister. On renxu, Yunnan gained a new Yinan circuit.

In month 11, yihai, Yang Yingqi reported Burmese chiefs of Dashan, Mengyu, and Mengda submitting. On wuyin, ill Yang Yingqi was relieved by Yang Tingzhang at Yongchang for the Burma campaign. On guisi, Fuling'an was sent with a court doctor to see Yang Yingqi.

In year 33, month 1, xinmao, Ming Rui reported Manjie taken. On renchen, Ming Rui became Duke of Sincere Valor and Courageous Merit with yellow belt, ruby finial, and four-dragon robe. On dingyou, Ming Rui marched on Song Sai. On gengzi, Zhang Bao took Shandong; Su Erde, Shanxi. On bingwu, Xinzhu died; Ming Fu became Mukden general. Su Chang, Fujian-Zhejiang governor-general, died. On dingwei, Arigun was sent as expedition adviser to Yunnan. Cui Yingjie took Fujian-Zhejiang; Funihan, Fujian. On jiayin, Burmese forces besieged Mubang.

In month 2, bingyin, Hongli blamed himself for underestimating Burma and ordered Ming Rui to withdraw. Eledeng'e and Tan Wuge were dismissed and arrested. E Ning returned to Yunnan; Arigun acted as Yunnan-Guizhou governor at Yongchang. Burmese forces took Mubang; Zhulune was killed. On wuyin, Hongli returned to Yuanmingyuan. On bingxu, Ming Rui's force was defeated at Mengyu; he died. Agui was recalled to Beijing; Yiletuo acted as Yili general. Fu Heng became commander-in-chief; Arigun and Agui, deputy generals; Suhede, adviser—all for Yunnan. E Ning became Yunnan-Guizhou governor-general; Mingde, Yunnan governor. Fu Long'an became Minister of War and joined the Grand Council as trainee. Yongde took Zhejiang; Zhang Bao, Jiangsu; Funihan, Shandong; E Bao, Fujian; Cheng Tao, Hubei.

In month 3, guisi, three Shandong flood counties including Gaoyuan lost year-32 taxes. On yisi, E Bao took Guangxi; Zhong Yin, Fujian; Liangqing, Guangdong; Qian Du, Guizhou; Balu, Chahar; Fu Liang, Suiyuan. On guichou, thirteen Jiangxi flood counties lost year-32 taxes.

In month 4, dingmao, Qian Du became Guangdong governor. On jisi, seven Anhui flood prefectures lost year-32 taxes. On renshen, Hongli examined Hanlin and related officials; Wu Shengqin and two others took first place. Board entrants to the Hanlin were examined; Jueluo Bayanxue took first place. On jiashen, Eledeng'e was executed by lingchi; Tan Wuge beheaded. On yiyou, Hongli mourned Ming Rui, Zhala Feng'a, and Guanyinbao.

In month 5, gengshen, Mingde was sent to Yongchang. On yichou, sick Sebten Balzhur left office; Yiletuo became colonial affairs minister. On gengwu, Guanbao acted as colonial affairs minister instead. On xinsi, Fan Shishou became Left Censor-in-Chief. On renwu, Agui became Yunnan-Guizhou governor-general. Yin Jishan and Gao Jin faced severe ministry review for hiding Lianghuai salt abuses.

On renzi, Ji Yun was dismissed and exiled to Urumqi for leaking Lu Jianzeng's confiscation edict.

Qiu Yixiu took Punishments; Cai Xin, Works. On jiaxu, Li Shiyao reported Burma had broken Siam; the royal grandson Zhao Cui fled to Ha Tien; Gan Endi seized Siam and sought a title. Mo Shilin was praised; Gan Endi was told to restore a legitimate Siam ruler, not crown himself. On jimao, three became grand guardians of the heir; Tuoyong and Yang Tingzhang, junior guardians.

On dingmao, Ming Fu was recalled; Erdeni Meng'e acted as Mukden general. On jiaxu, four Fengtian flood districts including Chengde were relieved. On renwu, Asiha stayed at Henan; Wen Shou moved to Shaanxi.

In year 34, month 1, bingxu, Yunnan march routes and three Yongchang-area prefectures lost this year's taxes. Non-route districts lost half their taxes; Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou march routes lost three-tenths. On gengyin, an arrogant Burmese letter put Agui and Arigun under Fu Heng for the campaign. On xinmao, Mingde became Yunnan-Guizhou governor at Yongchang; Kaning'a, Yunnan governor. On renchen, Arigun routed the Burmese at Nandi Dam. Two hundred thousand shi from Tong granary relieved twelve districts including Bazhou. On jiawu, Right Wing Kazakh Alibis's sons Zholqi and others paid court. On yiwei, Henglu took Mukden; Fu Liang, Jilin; Changzai, Suiyuan. On xinchou, Fu Heng left for Yunnan. Guanbao acted as Revenue minister. Ningxia Right Wing and Jilin Lalin vice commander posts were cut. Changqing acted as Suiyuan general. On guimao, Fu Heng received imperial armor. On wushen, Guanbao became associate grand secretary; Fu Long'an acted at Punishments. On guichou, Lan Xang's prince Zhao Weng sought aid; Agui was told to prepare a southern route.

On wushen day, twenty-nine Gansu districts including Gaolan received disaster relief. Last year's taxes were remitted in sixteen Anhui districts and five garrisons.

Fu Heng reported Mengmi's submission. On jiawu day, Li Shiyao reported Siam still held by Kampeng. On dingyou day, Dong Bangda, minister of rites, died. On jihai day, Lu Zongkai took Rites and Cai Xin took War. Wu Shaoshi took Punishments; Haiming and Liang Guozhi took Jiangxi and Hubei. On jiyou day, Li Shiyao ordered Mo Shilin to join Siamese chiefs against Kampeng.

In the ninth month, A Gui reached Manmu. On jichou day, the Emperor returned to the Mountain Resort. On yiwei day, the Emperor and Empress Dowager returned from tour. On jihai day, A Gui and Iletu were told to meet Fu Heng from Manmu. On renyin day, Liu Tongxun was sent to survey the Shandong canal. On guimao day, Fu Heng reported Hunjue of Menggong surrendering with his following. The Emperor commended him. He received a special three-eyed peacock plume. On wushen day, Fu Heng reached Mengyang. A Gui reported taking Hakhan and crossing the river. A Gui was told to hold Xinjie and fight the rebels.

In the tenth month, Zhang Bao and Mingde acted as Yunnan-Guizhou governor-general and Yunnan governor. Yongde became Jiangsu governor. Xiong Xuepeng was restored to act as Zhejiang governor. Zenghai acted as Ili general. On dingsi day, Fu Heng reported taking Mengyang. On guihai day, Liang Guozhi also acted as Huguang governor-general. On jiazi day, A Gui lost the vice-generalship for failing at Laoguantun and became military adviser. Iletu was made vice-general. Kaning'a took Guizhou and Funihan took Henan. Hu Wenbo became Anhui governor. On yichou day, Fu Heng reported reaching Xinjie. Zhang Bao was stationed at Laoguantun. On renshen day, Yonggui, Tuoyong, and Iletu took Rites, Personnel, and War, with Tuoyong acting in both. Wu Shaoshi took Rites. Qiu Yixiu became minister of punishments.

In the eleventh month, Ali Gun, vice-general and minister of revenue, died in the field. A Gui kept above vice-general rank; Yinletu became vice-general and Wusantai and Changqing became advisers. Guan Bao took Revenue. Su'erna took Punishments and Tuo'enduo acted as left censor-in-chief. On wuzi day, Fu Heng's force attacked Laoguantun. On guisi day, Huang Dengxian became transport governor-general. On bingshen day, Burma's pestilence halved the army; troops withdrew to Yeniuba, Fu Heng was recalled, and A Gui stayed to clean up. On jihai day, Guanbao was restored to act as left censor-in-chief. On dingwei day, Fu Heng failed to take Laoguantun. A local chief brought Meng Bo's surrender letter to camp. The Emperor ordered the army to withdraw.

In the twelfth month, Yunnan supply districts and Yongchang prefectures had taxes cut by half. Transit districts in several provinces also had three-tenths remitted. Gong Zhaolin, Debao, and Chen Huizu took Hunan, Guangdong, and Guangxi. On yimao day, Fu Heng reported Meng Bo submitting and offering tribute. The throne said an edict would follow when he reached Beijing. On jisi day, tax remission was granted for the coming eastern tombs and Tianjin tour. A Gui became minister of rites.

In the second month, the Emperor and Empress Dowager visited the Eastern Tombs. On gengwu day, the imperial party returned and stopped at Panshan. On renshen day, Meng Bo's tribute delay led to warnings to Zhang Bao and a trade ban.

In the third month, the imperial party returned to Beijing. Wu Shaoshi was restored to a punishments bureau directorship. On xinsi day, Gong Zhaolin took Guizhou and Wu Dashan also acted in Hunan. On renwu day, the imperial party visited the Tai tomb and Tianjin. On bingxu day, the Emperor visited the Tai tomb. On jichou day, large tax and grain arrears were forgiven for transit districts, Tianjin, and Zhili. Zhili sentences below military exile were lessened. Zhili disaster-deferred taxes from 31-33 were forgiven. On jiawu day, the imperial party lodged at Tianjin. On bingshen day, the Emperor reviewed the garrison. Fu Heng returned to Beijing and resumed Household Department duty with Fulung'an. On wuxu day, Yongde took Henan and Sazai acted in Jiangsu. On guimao day, the imperial party returned to Beijing. On jiyou day, Ha Guoxing was rebuked and recalled for mishandling Burma; Changqing replaced him in Yunnan. On jiwei day, Fu Liang was recalled and Fuchun became Jilin general. On bingyin day, Tianjin locusts brought Yang Tingzhang to supervise extermination. On gengwu day, the Emperor prayed for rain at Black Dragon Pool. That month, tax remission reached Zhejiang, garrisons, and Shaanxi for flood and hail.

In the fifth month there was a solar eclipse. On renwu day, Guanbao and Tang Xianjia lost their posts over the eighth son entering the city without leave. On yiwei day, rain prayers brought prison review and lighter sentences.

In the intercalary fifth month, Qiu Yixiu was sent to Jizhou and Baodi against locusts. On wushen day, Beijing had heavy rain. On jiwei day, Wen Fu became personnel vice minister and joined the Grand Council. On jiazi day, Qiu Yixiu was removed for poor locust work and Cheng Jingyi took Punishments. Fan Shishou took Works and Zhang Ruowen became left censor-in-chief.

In the sixth month, A Gui was told to send Hailancha and Ha Guoxing forward. On bingxu day, locusts struck Yongcheng, Dangshan, Suzhou, and other districts. On dinghai day, Guan Bao took Punishments and Su'erna took Revenue. On renchen day, Fengsheng'e acted as minister of war. On jiawu day, Guizhou Miao leaders including Xiang'ai were put to death. Wu Najian and Wang Jintai were sent to Gubeikou to survey floods; twenty thousand taels and granary relief were provided.

On guichou day, the Emperor visited the ailing Prince He Hongzhou. On dingsi day, Prince He Hongzhou died. Grand Secretary Fu Heng died. On wuwu day, the centenarian Wang Shifang received an Imperial College vice-director rank and home salary. On xinyou day, Pei Zongxi became Anhui governor. On jiazi day, two hundred thousand piculs of grain relieved floods in six counties including Wuqing. Nomuzhin became Yunnan governor.

On bingxu day, the Emperor observed the Longevity Festival rites before the Empress Dowager. Congratulatory rites were held at the Hall of Supreme Harmony, but the banquet was canceled. Fengsheng'e joined the Grand Council. On jichou day, the court went to Rehe with the Empress Dowager. On yiwei day, the court lodged at the Summer Mountain Resort. On jihai day, the Emperor went to Mulan.

On renwu day, Aertai was recalled; Defu and Wudashan acted in Sichuan and Hunan. Sazai was called to Beijing and Lihu acted in Jiangsu.
