The Great Plan states, "Fire is defined as blazing upward." When fire fails in this office, the result is a sign of cosmic blame. Persistent unseasonable warmth, strange vegetation, prodigies among winged insects, sheep plagues, fire disasters, and red portents of every kind all belong to the element of fire. In the winter of Shunzhi 13 (1656), Zhuanglang was warm as in summer and saw no snow. In the winter of Shunzhi 18 (1661), Longmen had no snow.

In the winter of Kangxi 21 (1682), Xining had no snow. In the winter of Kangxi 27 (1688), Tianzhen had no snow. In the winter of Kangxi 35 (1696), Lin County had no snow. In the winter of Kangxi 41 (1702), Pingyuan was as warm as midsummer. In the winter of Kangxi 42 (1703), Xianyang was warm and saw no snow. In the winter of Kangxi 59 (1720), Fushan had no snow.

In the winter of Qianlong 4 (1739), Pengze and Yuanchang were as warm as summer, and people went about in single-layer clothing. In the winter of Qianlong 49 (1784), Heze had no snow. In the winter of Qianlong 57 (1792), Suzhou saw neither snow nor ice.

In the winter of Jiaqing 3 (1798), Tongxiang was unseasonably warm. In the winter of Jiaqing 13 (1808), Changli had no snow. In the winter of Jiaqing 18 (1813), Yun County had no snow. In the fifth month of Shunzhi 3 (1646), wheat rained down at Qiu County. In the sixth month, beans rained down at Chaoyang. In the sixth month of Shunzhi 11 (1654), at Shangzhou one stem bore two melons, each as large as a peck measure. In the second month of Shunzhi 12 (1655), millet rained from the sky at Weinan, and buckwheat rained at Pingle. In the third month, zhuo grain and peas rained from the sky at Fengyang and Anxi. In the fifth month, zhuo grain and peas rained at Lintong and Xianyang. In the second month of Shunzhi 14 (1657), broomcorn millet rained at Wuyuan. In the winter of Shunzhi 15 (1658), bamboo at Changhua bore fruit. In the tenth month of Shunzhi 18 (1661), bamboo at Gaoyao bore fruit.

In the tenth month of Kangxi 2 (1663), millet rained at Fuyang; the grains resembled buckwheat—small, round, and hard, with a sharp taste, and in thick patches lay an inch deep. In the seventh month of Kangxi 3 (1664), bamboo on Great Zhang Mountain at Wuyuan bore fruit shaped like wheat; the people gathered and pounded them to eat, and they found the taste sweet. In the third month of Kangxi 21 (1682), beans rained at Wenzhou. In the fourth month of Kangxi 22 (1683), beans rained from the sky at Ningdu, followed by black broomcorn millet. In the second month of Kangxi 26 (1687), black beans rained at Hefei. In the first month of Kangxi 28 (1689), small beans rained at Hanshan. In the second month of Kangxi 41 (1702), bamboo in Hunan bore fruit. In the third month of Kangxi 44 (1705), black beans rained at Jiazhou. In the spring of Kangxi 45 (1706), bamboo at Hengzhou bore fruit. In the summer of Kangxi 60 (1721), buckwheat rained from the sky at Anhua. In the first month of Kangxi 61 (1722), bamboo at Dabu set fruit. In the eleventh month, withered bamboo at Cenxi blossomed.

In the fifth month of Yongzheng 5 (1727), bamboo at Zhongxiang blossomed. In the tenth month, red and green beans rained at Dangtu, shaped like wheat but without stems. In Yongzheng 10 (1732), buckwheat rained at Shifang County. In the second month of Yongzheng 11 (1733), black beans rained at Shanyang and Qinghe, and those who ate them found the taste bitter. In the third month of Yongzheng 12 (1734), bamboo at Yichang set fruit, and the people gathered and ate them. In the seventh month of Yongzheng 13 (1735), bamboo at Yiling bore fruit like wheat, and the people vied to gather and eat them.

In the second month of Qianlong 2 (1737), beans rained at Changhua. In the eleventh month of Qianlong 6 (1741), bamboo at Cheng County bore fruit. In the ninth month of Qianlong 18 (1753), all bamboo at Yangchun set fruit and withered dead. In the first month of Qianlong 22 (1757), bamboo on East Mountain at Yongjia set fruit like wheat. In Qianlong 23 (1758), beans rained at Chizhou. In Qianlong 26 (1761), buckwheat rained at Anhua, resembling buckwheat but smaller. In the sixth month of Qianlong 41 (1776), wheat and yellow soybeans rained at Yuyao.

In the summer of Daoguang 2 (1822), legumes rained from the sky at Huangyan. In the tenth month of Daoguang 4 (1824), beans, wheat, grain, and rice rained at Huangmei. In the twelfth month of Daoguang 16 (1836), beans rained at Wuning. In the eleventh month of Daoguang 20 (1840), bamboo at Zhongxiang blossomed. In the seventh month of Daoguang 25 (1845), bamboo bore rice grains fit to eat.

In the sixth month of Xianfeng 1 (1851), bamboo on South Mountain at Xiaoyi Subprefecture set fruit, and people gathered and ate them; bamboo at Qingpu bore flowers. In the eleventh month of Xianfeng 2 (1852), beans rained at Taiping. In the second month of Xianfeng 4 (1854), beans rained from the sky at Suizhou. In the fourth month, black beans rained at Huanggang, and those who ate them found the taste bitter. That winter, black beans rained at Wuchang County. On the third day of the first month of Xianfeng 5 (1855), small beans rained from the sky at Xiaogan. In the second month, beans rained again. In the third month, black beans rained from the sky at Wuchang, shaped like locust-tree pods; beans rained at Huang'an. In summer, beans rained at Huangzhou and Qishui, shaped like locust-tree pods. In the eleventh month, beans rained from the sky at Huanggang, shaped like locust-tree pods; bamboo at Guizhou set fruit, and people gathered and ate them. In the eighth month of Xianfeng 6 (1856), beans rained at Suizhou. In the second month of Xianfeng 8 (1858), red beans rained at Xingguo. In autumn, bamboo at Xingshan set fruit. In the spring of Xianfeng 9 (1859), pumpkins among the people at Macheng took human shape. In Xianfeng 10 (1860), red beans rained at Longquan. In the third month of Xianfeng 11 (1861), beans rained at Macheng. In the twelfth month, red beans rained at Xiliang.

In the eighth month of Tongzhi 1 (1862), bamboo at the Danggar Subprefecture in Xining bore red flowers; melons at Luanzhou, when cut open, bled; those who ate them fell ill immediately. In the first month of Tongzhi 3 (1864), beans rained from the sky at Yongfeng in five brilliant colors. In the third month, beans rained at Jingning and Sheng County. In the fifth month, beans rained at Jingshan County, black and lustrous. In the second month of Tongzhi 6 (1867), grass seeds resembling buckwheat rained at Qixia. In summer, beans rained at Sheng County. In Tongzhi 7 (1868), at Gaocheng beans grew shaped like human faces, with all five features complete. In the tenth month of Tongzhi 9 (1870), grain rained at Suichang, black on the outside and red within; beans rained at Dexing, black within and white without. In the third month of Tongzhi 11 (1872), red beans and buckwheat rained from the sky at Jimo.

In the fourth month of Guangxu 2 (1876), beans rained at Qingtian. In the third month of Guangxu 9 (1883), red wheat rained at Xianning. In the eighth month of Guangxu 10 (1884), bamboo at Xiaoyi Subprefecture set fruit. In the eleventh month, bamboo on South Mountain at Taozhou blossomed and set fruit. In Shunzhi 14 (1657), crows at Wuchang carried fire in their beaks and settled on people's houses, setting them ablaze wherever they landed; the calamity lasted a full month before it subsided.

In Kangxi 16 (1677), a strange bird settled in the woods at Haifeng for three days. It stood six or seven feet tall, stretched its neck more than ten feet, and preyed on chickens and ducks. The residents attacked it and divided its flesh among themselves; all who ate it promptly fell ill and died.

In the seventh month of Shunzhi 1 (1644), a great yellow sheep more than ten feet long was seen in the suburbs of Shangzhou. The common people seized and killed it, and its flesh weighed five hundred jin. In the fifth month of Shunzhi 4 (1647), a household sheep at Shanyin gave birth to a lamb with three legs—two in front and one behind. In Shunzhi 5 (1648), a household sheep at Hangzhou gave birth to a lamb with three legs.

In Kangxi 12 (1673), a household at Beishan produced a sheep with one horn and one eye, and it died at once. In Kangxi 24 (1685), a sheep at Shunde gave birth to a lamb with three legs—one in front and two behind.

In the fourth month of Qianlong 1 (1736), a mountain goat with enormous hooves and horns entered Lianzhou city, and the people pursued and captured it. In Qianlong 55 (1790), a three-legged sheep was seen at Yunmeng. In the eighth month of Daoguang 17 (1837), a household at Wujin produced a creature with a human head and sheep's legs; it died the moment it was born. In the eighth month of Xianfeng 10 (1860), herds of white sheep gathered on West Mountain at Jiangshan and suddenly vanished.

In Tongzhi 3 (1864), a household sheep at Ningzhou produced a lamb with five horns.

In the ninth month of Guangxu 9 (1883), a household sheep at Xiaoyi Subprefecture produced a lamb with a human face and sheep's body. In Guangxu 25 (1899), a household sheep at Ningzhou produced a lamb with two heads. In the third month of Guangxu 27 (1901), at Danggar there was a sheep with two heads; and a lamb with three legs. In Guangxu 33 (1907), a household sheep at Ningzhou gave birth to a lamb with a human face.

In the seventh month of Shunzhi 1 (1644), the Confucian temple at Xixiang caught fire. On the sixth day of the first month of Shunzhi 6 (1649), a great fire broke out at the city gate of Wuwei Prefecture. In the seventh month of Shunzhi 8 (1651), fire at Lan County burned private dwellings. On the eighteenth day of the fifth month of Shunzhi 12 (1655), a great fire broke out outside Wuzhou Prefecture city; in the twelfth month there was another great fire. In the tenth month of Shunzhi 14 (1657), Qishui caught fire. In Shunzhi 15 (1658), a great fire broke out at Lianzhou. In the fifth month of Shunzhi 18 (1661), a great fire at Yichang spread and burned more than a thousand private dwellings. In the eighth month, a great fire broke out within Sheng County city.

In the fifth month of Kangxi 1 (1662), a great fire at Huanggang destroyed eight or nine tenths of the private dwellings. That autumn, a great fire at Jingzhou burned private dwellings nearly to the ground. In the tenth month, fire at Xingguo began at the Great West Gate and spread through the city to the Great East Gate; men and women who perished numbered in the thousands. On the third day of the second month of Kangxi 2 (1663), fire broke out in the western suburbs of Haiyang and spread, burning more than a thousand private dwellings. On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, a great fire at Huanggang burned private dwellings nearly to the ground. In the fourth month of Kangxi 3 (1664), a great fire broke out outside Wuzhou Prefecture city and burned more than eight hundred households. In the fifth month, a great fire broke out at Haiyang. In the sixth month, the drum tower at Hanshan caught fire. In the first month of Kangxi 4 (1665), fire at Jingshan burned more than one hundred and eighty households. In the tenth month, a great fire at Huaiyuan spread from outside the West Gate to the courier station and burned more than one hundred and fifty households. In the eleventh month, fire broke out in Gaozhou Prefecture city, and at Hepu fire burned private dwellings. In the twelfth month, fire broke out in Guangzhou Prefecture city. In the first month of Kangxi 5 (1666), fire broke out in the north and south wards of Haiyang and spread, burning more than a thousand private dwellings. On the thirteenth day of the second month, fire at Zhongxiang destroyed several hundred households, spread to the prefectural offices, and killed many people and livestock; on the twenty-eighth day, several hundred more households were burned inside and outside the city. That autumn, fire broke out in the north ward of Lingchuan and spread, burning private dwellings nearly to the ground. In the twelfth month, a great fire at Yanzhou destroyed all private dwellings and spread to the city tower. In the first month of Kangxi 6 (1667), fire broke out in the four wards outside Haiyang city and spread, burning more than a thousand private dwellings; more than two hundred people perished in the flames. In the third month of Kangxi 7 (1668), fire at Yunyang Prefecture destroyed all private dwellings. In the seventh month, fire in the western market of Daye spread and burned more than a hundred households. In the eighth month, fire within Xuanhua city burned more than a thousand households; the next day more than a hundred households were burned outside the city. In the second month of Kangxi 8 (1669), fire in the northwestern two wards of Haiyang burned several hundred private dwellings. In the third month, fire broke out at Yun County. In the tenth month, a great fire broke out at Dushan Prefecture, and fires broke out in Xianju and Huangyan counties. In Kangxi 9 (1670), fire at the South Pass of Pingle spread and burned more than forty households. From the twelfth month of that year to the fourth month of the next, fires occurred on four occasions.

In the fifth month of Kangxi 10 (1671), a great fire broke out at Qiantang. In the seventh month, fire broke out in the western market of Daye. On the seventh day of the ninth month, a great fire broke out at the Taiji Palace in Pujiang. In the third month of Kangxi 11 (1672), a great fire at Jinyun spread to the county offices. In the ninth month of Kangxi 12 (1673), the sand market outside the West Gate of Xuan County suffered fires on four occasions, destroying several hundred households. In the fifth month of Kangxi 13 (1674), fire at Jingle destroyed private dwellings; fire at Tang Village in Xingguo burned two hundred and thirty-seven people to death. In the seventh month of Kangxi 15 (1676), fire within Taiping city destroyed more than half the private dwellings. On the third day of the first month of Kangxi 18 (1679), fire at Jishui Town in Wangjiang burned more than a hundred households. In the sixth month, fire broke out at the seat of government of Shunqing Prefecture. On the fifteenth day of the first month of Kangxi 19 (1680), fire at Pingyang destroyed more than half the dwellings. On the fourth day of the third month, fire at Haiyang spread and burned more than a hundred households, killing more than forty people. In the seventh month, fire outside Heping city spread and burned more than a hundred households.

In the second month of Kangxi 20 (1681), fire broke out at the Donghu county offices. In the fifth month, fire broke out in the eastern corridor at Cangwu. In the eighth month, fire broke out in the main hall of Jining Prefecture; at Wenzhou fire burned more than five thousand private dwellings. In the ninth month, a great fire within Yongjia city burned more than a thousand private dwellings. In the tenth month, fire at Sizhou Prefecture spread and burned more than fifty households. In the spring of Kangxi 21 (1682), a great fire in the eastern part of Jining Prefecture city spread to the western corner and destroyed all private dwellings. The temple of Marquis Zhuang of Guan was ruined as well, yet the deity image and incense table alone were left unharmed. In the eighth month, heaven-sent fire at Chizhou destroyed standing grain and taro shoots, and every leaf smoked. In the tenth month, fire at Wanzai spread to the City God temple, and fire broke out in the western suburbs of Lianshan. In the fourth month of Kangxi 22 (1683), fire broke out at the West Gate of [illegible]-yang. In the seventh month of Kangxi 23 (1684), the Changning City God temple caught fire. That winter, fire broke out at Shibao Stockade in Zhongzhou. In the fourth month of Kangxi 25 (1686), fire at Wanzai spread to the City God temple; fire at the South Gate of Liuhe burned several hundred market shops. On the first day of the tenth month of Kangxi 26 (1687), fire at the Pingyang city tower burned more than a hundred households; Shibao Stockade in Zhongzhou caught fire again. In the eighth month of Kangxi 27 (1688), fire at Wuyuan spread and burned more than fifty households. In the twelfth month, fire broke out at the West Bridge of Hepu and in the prefectural city. On jimao day in the ninth month of Kangxi 28 (1689), fire broke out at the West Pass of Cangwu. In the twelfth month, fire broke out at Songyang. On the twenty-eighth day of the seventh month of Kangxi 29 (1690), a great fire within Fengdu city destroyed all dwellings.

In the tenth month of Kangxi 30 (1691), fire at Pingle spread and burned more than two hundred households; a great fire broke out at Dushan Prefecture. In the ninth month of Kangxi 31 (1692), the Pingyang city tower caught fire. In the summer of Kangxi 32 (1693), fire at the Zhen'an prefectural offices spread and burned several dozen private dwellings. In the ninth month, fire outside the East Gate of Pingyang burned several dozen households. In the first month of Kangxi 34 (1695), fire below the Nanchuan River at Maping spread to the Great South Gate city tower. In the seventh month of Kangxi 35 (1696), fire at Jiangxia began in the gunpowder storehouse, and the dead were beyond counting. In the eighth month, fire broke out on South Street at Yanggao. In the second month of Kangxi 37 (1698), fire at Hankou Town in Hanyang spread and burned several thousand households.

In the ninth month of Kangxi 40 (1701), fire at Yangshan spread and burned more than two hundred households. In the second month of Kangxi 41 (1702), fire at Yazhou injured four people. On the sixteenth day of the seventh month of Kangxi 42 (1703), fire at Qing Town in Tongxiang burned more than one hundred and seventy private dwellings. On the night of the twenty-ninth day of the first month of Kangxi 43 (1704), fire at Guanyang burned private dwellings outside the East Gate nearly to the ground. In the third month of Kangxi 44 (1705), fire broke out at Taiping Ward in Wuyuan. In the eleventh month, fire broke out at Wuning. In the fourth month of Kangxi 45 (1706), fire at Zhuxi reduced government offices and private dwellings alike to ashes. On the fourth day of the first month of Kangxi 46 (1707), fire broke out at Lipu; at first [text damaged], then fire broke out again. A great fire broke out at Taiping Gate in Ba County. In the third month of Kangxi 48 (1709), a great fire broke out inside Dushan Prefecture city, and none of the residents escaped unscathed. On the twenty-fifth day of the eighth month of Kangxi 49 (1710), fire at Jiading spread and burned more than seventy households.

In the first month of Kangxi 50 (1711), fire at Baibao Market in Dapu destroyed several hundred private dwellings. In the fifth month, fire at Tanbu in Wanzai left market shops and private dwellings utterly destroyed. In the eleventh month of Kangxi 52 (1713), fire broke out at Xuanping. On the eighth day of the ninth month of Kangxi 53 (1714), fire at Shashi in Xuanhua burned more than a thousand households; A great fire broke out at Dushan Prefecture. In the ninth month of Kangxi 54 (1715), fire at Jiangling spread and burned more than two thousand households. In the ninth month of Kangxi 55 (1716), fire broke out again at Jiangling, spread, and burned more than twenty households, killing eleven people; A great fire in Sizhou Prefecture city spread and burned more than forty households. On the third day of the fifth month of Kangxi 56 (1717), a great fire in Danling County spread and burned several hundred households. In the third month of Kangxi 57 (1718), a great fire inside Hefei city spread and burned more than forty households. On the first day of the eighth month, fire inside Zhongxiang city spread and burned several hundred private dwellings outside the walls. In the tenth month of Kangxi 59 (1720), a great fire broke out outside the West Gate of Cangwu. On the eighteenth day of the fourth month of Kangxi 60 (1721), fire in Yanshan County city spread from the Confucian school through the east, south, and north gates and destroyed several thousand private dwellings. In the second month of Kangxi 61 (1722), fire inside the Small West Gate of Wuwei Prefecture spread and burned more than thirty households. In the seventh month, fire broke out at the East Gate of Dushan Prefecture. That winter, fire broke out at Lishui County.

In the first month of Yongzheng 2 (1724), a great fire at Xiantao Town in Mianyang burned more than a hundred households, and many perished. In the seventh month, fire broke out at Wucheng Courier Station in Wuzhou. In the tenth month, fire broke out inside the city. In the eleventh month, fire broke out at Rongxu. On the first day of the twelfth month, fire inside Kaihua city spread and burned more than a hundred households. In the sixth month of Yongzheng 3 (1725), fire broke out at the Wenchang Temple in Zitong County. In the seventh month, fire at the Small South Gate of Maping spread and burned more than three hundred households. On the fourth day of the twelfth month of Yongzheng 4 (1726), fire outside the West Gate of Pingyang burned more than a hundred households. In the twelfth month of Yongzheng 5 (1727), a private dwelling at Beiliu caught fire, spread to the county offices, and destroyed all case records. On the night of the sixteenth day of the first month of Yongzheng 6 (1728), fire at Cangwu spread and burned more than one hundred and seventy private dwellings; Fire broke out east of Gaozhou city. In the tenth month, fire at Kunshan burned the gate tower at Chaoyang Gate. In the ninth month of Yongzheng 7 (1729), fire broke out at Rongxu in Cangwu. In the first month of Yongzheng 9 (1731), a great fire broke out at Jingzhou. On the third day of the fifth month of Yongzheng 10 (1732), fire in the western city of Fuyang spread and burned four thousand six hundred and eleven private dwellings. On the seventh day of the seventh month of Yongzheng 11 (1733), at Yuping voices were heard in the sky crying to put out the fire; half a month later, disaster struck Drum Tower Street and burned several hundred private dwellings. In the winter of Yongzheng 13 (1735), fire destroyed the City God Temple in Wuyuan.

In the fourth month of Qianlong 1 (1736), fire in the northern suburbs of Tongzhou spread and burned more than a hundred households. In the eleventh month, fire broke out at the South Gate of Yuping. On the eighteenth day of the second month of Qianlong 2 (1737), fire in Zhen'an Prefecture city burned several hundred households. On the yichou day of the third month, a great fire broke out at the Hall of Bright Virtue in Tongguan. In the fifth month, fire broke out on the main street of Qinzhou. In the ninth month, fire at the registrar's office in Beiliu spread and burned private dwellings. On the seventh day of the tenth month of Qianlong 3 (1738), fire broke out at the South Gate of Chaoyang. On the seventeenth day of the first month of Qianlong 4 (1739), a great fire at Ruian burned more than a hundred households. On the eighteenth day of the fourth month, fire inside Zhen'an city spread and burned more than eighty households. In the second month of Qianlong 5 (1740), fire at Sheng County spread and burned more than two hundred households. On the sixth day of the first month of Qianlong 6 (1741), fire outside the South Gate of Wuzhou Prefecture city spread and burned more than three hundred private dwellings. On the night of the fourteenth day of the second month of Qianlong 7 (1742), fire in Raoping County city spread and burned more than thirty large buildings and countless small houses. In the eleventh month of Qianlong 8 (1743), fire broke out again at Raoping County. On the gengwu day of the second month of Qianlong 10 (1745), fire at the county offices in Tai'an spread and burned more than a hundred households. In the sixth month of Qianlong 11 (1746), fire at Longjin Bridge in Haifeng spread and burned more than forty thatched shelters. In the eighth month of Qianlong 12 (1747), fire broke out on South Street in Huazhou. In the ninth month, fire broke out in Fengshun County city. On the tenth day of the eleventh month, fire on East Street in Yazhou spread and burned more than seventy households, injuring two people. In the fourth month of Qianlong 15 (1750), fire broke out at Tai'an. On New Year's Day of Qianlong 17 (1752), fire on grain boats at Hanyang burned several dozen vessels. In the fourth month, a great fire at South Gate in Tongxiang destroyed more than three hundred market shops. On the twenty-second day of the fifth month, fire on Xiaoti Street in Baochang spread and burned more than thirty households. In the seventh month of Qianlong 18 (1753), a great fire at Luchuan destroyed private dwellings. In the tenth month, a great fire outside Wuzhou Prefecture city injured more than twenty people. In the eighth month of Qianlong 19 (1754), fire broke out again outside Cangwu Prefecture city. In the third month of Qianlong 20 (1755), fire broke out in Gaozhou Prefecture city; in the fifth month, fire broke out again. In the tenth month of Qianlong 22 (1757), fire at Donghu in Yichang burned countless private dwellings. On the first day of the third month of Qianlong 23 (1758), a great fire broke out outside Taiping Gate in Chongqing. In the fourth month, a great fire broke out at Dushan Prefecture. On the twenty-eighth day of the eighth month of Qianlong 25 (1760), a great fire broke out inside Qiansi Gate at Chaotian. In the tenth month of Qianlong 27 (1762), fire at Yuxi Town in Shimen spread and burned more than a hundred households. On the fifth day of the twelfth month of Qianlong 28 (1763), fire at Qingyuan spread and burned more than fifty households. In the fifth month of Qianlong 29 (1764), fire on Silk Market Street south of Yishui County city spread and burned several hundred households. In the tenth month, a private dwelling outside the West Pass of Wuyuan caught fire and spread, burning several hundred households. In the tenth month of Qianlong 30 (1765), fire broke out outside Wuzhou Prefecture city. In the eleventh month of Qianlong 31 (1766), three great fires at Rongxu in Cangwu burned more than six hundred private dwellings in all. In the seventh month of Qianlong 38 (1773), fire broke out at the prefectural offices in Jinhua. In the twelfth month of Qianlong 42 (1777), a great fire broke out in Qingtian city. On the fourth day of the eleventh month of Qianlong 44 (1779), a great fire at Tongxiang burned more than forty market shops. In the summer of Qianlong 46 (1781), fire broke out south of Luchuan city and spread to the county offices. In the sixth month of Qianlong 47 (1782), fire in Ningbo Prefecture city destroyed the drum tower. On the gengzi day of the fifth month of Qianlong 48 (1783), fire at Qingyuan spread and burned more than a hundred households. On the twenty-ninth day of the third month of Jiaqing 16 (1811), fire broke out west of Shimen city. In the spring of Jiaqing 17 (1812), fire at Qidong killed several hundred people. In the third month of Jiaqing 18 (1813), a great fire broke out in Guiyang city. In the fourth month of Jiaqing 20 (1815), fire broke out at Shangshan. On the twentieth day of the twelfth month, the powder magazine at the West Gate of Lanzhou caught fire and burned the Xuanyuan Gate tower and private dwellings, killing several dozen people. In the fourth month of Tongzhi 11 (1872), fire at Wucheng spread and burned for more than ten li. In the fifth month of Tongzhi 13 (1874), fire broke out at the Small West Gate of Wuchang County.

In the eleventh month of Guangxu 6 (1880), fire broke out at the North Market in Wuchang County. In the second month of Guangxu 28 (1902), a great fire broke out on South Street in Gaolan. In the tenth month of Guangxu 29 (1903), fire broke out at Xining. In the seventh month of Guangxu 31 (1905), fire broke out on the main street of Xining; in the eleventh month, fire destroyed the Confucian Temple.

In the second month of Shunzhi 10 (1653), firelight filled the countryside around Caoxian at night. In the fifth month, fire swept the countryside around Weinan, and a torch-bearer about three chi tall was seen as people circled the edge of the flames. The next day at the burned site a folded slip was found with several lines written like a human hand; it read, "The land is unsettled; Heaven sends down three fierce spirits, one to take cattle, one to take horses, one to take people." On the twenty-seventh day of the tenth month of Shunzhi 14 (1657), fire broke out in the sky at Qingfeng and burned several hundred private dwellings.

In the third month of Kangxi 12 (1673), at dawn in Jinyun a dark-faced man was seen setting fires from the sky; when pursued, he vanished. In the fifth month, firelight rose from the well at Xianzhen Temple in Ningbo. On the fifteenth day of the eighth month of Kangxi 14 (1675), firelight filled the countryside at Haifeng. In the second month of Kangxi 25 (1686), at the yamen of the Governor-General of the Two Guangs the two flagpoles suddenly emitted flying fire in broad daylight; the right one was burned, and more than half was charred. In the autumn of Kangxi 31 (1692), fire in the sky at Nanle made all iron it touched glow; from the shen hour to the hai hour it then ceased. On the bingyin day of the second month of Kangxi 50 (1711), firelight appeared in a violent wind at Dongping.

On the twenty-ninth day of the fourth month of Qianlong 17 (1752), firelight at Qishan moved from west to east. In the seventh month, at Ruicheng there was firelight like lightning. In the eleventh month of Qianlong 20 (1755), on a mid-river islet at Pengze a hole emitted fire; reeds thrown in immediately ignited, and burned for a long time without ceasing. On the second day of the second month of Qianlong 22 (1757), at Gaoping a fireball as large as a dou appeared, its color alternating yellow, red, and green; it moved along the ground, and no one knew where it went. In the ninth month of Qianlong 27 (1762), firelight as large as a dou appeared in the sky over Lin County and fell in the southeastern corner of the city. In the third month of Qianlong 33 (1768), at Jimo fireballs crossed the sky from dusk to nightfall. In the winter of Qianlong 50 (1785), at Zaoyang a fireball like a dou flew more than half a li away.

In the first month of Daoguang 26 (1846), firelight filled the countryside at Pingxiang.

In the first month of Xianfeng 3 (1853), at Tongzhou fires like stars and will-o'-the-wisps numbered in the thousands; rushing from the southwest toward the northeast, they burned for four or five nights before ceasing. In the winter of Xianfeng 10 (1860), at Feicheng after dusk fire rose from the ground like will-o'-the-wisps yet like flame, red and blue in color, forming two streams of light; everywhere it touched burned.

In the ninth month of Tongzhi 2 (1863), at Quyang a fireball flew from the southwest toward the northeast; sometimes it scattered in all directions, sometimes it gathered into one—its form was inconstant. In Tongzhi 4 (1865), at Tongwei and Tai'an firelight appeared in the west like a falling star.

On the fourteenth day of the first month of Guangxu 1 (1875), at the Temple of the Five Sages in Luanzhou firelight suddenly appeared; presently flames rose towering into the clouds, yet the temple was unharmed. In the winter of Guangxu 5 (1879), at Yutian a fireball was seen flying toward the northeast with a sound like thunder. On the wuzi day of the fourth month of Guangxu 22 (1896), at Nanle firelight a foot in diameter, bright as the moon, moved from the southwest toward the northeast with a tail about a zhang long, then suddenly exploded into sparks scattering in all directions. On the evening of the wuwu day of the fifth month of Guangxu 23 (1897), at Nanle round firelight about a foot in diameter flew toward the southwest. On the night of the yiwei day of the eleventh month of Guangxu 25 (1899), at Nanle firelight flowed through the sky, bright as the moon. On the night of the renxu day of the seventh month of Guangxu 26 (1900), at Nanle firelight flowed through the sky.

On the fourth day of the sixth month of Shunzhi 3 (1646), blood issued from the ground at the home of Li Ming in Xin'an Town, Zhenyang. On the fifth day, blood issued even more copiously from the ground at the home of Yu Er. In the summer of Shunzhi 5 (1648), red vapor was seen stretching across the eastern sky at Jiading. In the winter of Shunzhi 7 (1650), villagers at Hewang Town saw blood gush from the ground. In the first month of Shunzhi 9 (1652), at Dongchang red light appeared with a sound like water ducks; it moved toward the southeast and vanished. In Shunzhi 16 (1659), outside the South Pass of Yongnian blood gushed from the ground with a hissing sound.

In the fourth month of Kangxi 14 (1675), blood gushed more than a zhang high from the ground at Laiyang; the odor was foul, and for a long time no one dared approach. On the sixteenth day of the seventh month of Kangxi 59 (1720), red vapor rose from the east at Rongcheng and Laiyang, suddenly like a bolt of silk stretching toward the northwest, with a sound like thunder. At midnight on the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth month of Yongzheng 7 (1729), red light filled the countryside at Fushan.

On the twenty-eighth day of the seventh month of Qianlong 35 (1770), red light rose from the north at Feicheng and gradually receded at midnight; northwest of Changshan red vapor filled the sky, with white vapor like threads interwoven among it; only after the fourth watch did it disperse. on the night of the twenty-ninth day, at Rongcheng red light illuminated the sky; at Dongguang vapor like fire stretched across the northwest for several dozen zhang; within it red light rose dense as sword and halberd blades shooting upward.
