Jianyan 4, spring, jiachen new moon: the court rode at anchor on the open sea. On yisi, the Jin hit Ming; Zhang Jun and Liu Hongdao on the wall threw them back. On bingwu, the emperor made port at Zhang'an in Taizhou. On jiyou, a junior officer was sent by sea to Qian to ask after the empress dowager. On gengxu, the Jin struck Ming again; Zhang Jun drew off; Zhang Sizheng, deputy overall commander in eastern Zhe, and Liu Hongdao fled after him. On guichou, Guo Zhongxun was demoted to Ruzhou deputy training commissioner and sent to Guang. On bingchen, an edict pardoned two-Zhe officials who had bowed to the Jin. On dingsi, the Lodging mansion took Shaan; Li Yanxian died with the city. On jiwei, the night Ming fell thunder rolled and rain sheeted; the Jin pressed on to Dinghai and sent ships against the imperial fleet; Zhang Gongyu beat them back with heavy craft. On xinyou, the court weighed anchor from Zhang'an. On renxu, thunder and rain broke again. On jiazi, the fleet moored at Wenzhou harbor. On yichou, Li Zhengmin, Secretariat drafter, was made soothing commissioner for two Zhe, Hunan, and Jiangxi to inquire after the empress dowager. On dingmao, Chao Gongwei of Taizhou abandoned the walls and fled. At Qian, garrison troops and militia turned on one another and for three days burned and looted without check. Liu Ke had raided western Jing and been repeatedly broken by Sang Zhong; now his own men killed him and raised Liu Chao at Jingmen. On wuchen, Teng Kang and Liu Jue were dismissed and stripped of rank. On jisi, monks and priests bought new ordination slips at ten thousand cash each. On xinwei, officials were ordered to set down post-withdrawal policy and where the court should halt. That month the Jin besieged Chu; Zhao Li barred the city. The Jin struck Bin; Qu Duan sent Wu Jie of Jingyuan to meet them and was beaten at Pengyuan; Tong fell in the same push. Commissioner Zhang Jun sent Xie Liang to Western Xia; Qian Shun had already seized the throne, and the envoy came back empty.

Second month, jiaxu new moon: Li Qiong surrendered his host to Liu Guangshi. The rebel Fu Xuan came to Qian to beg surrender. On yihai, the ancestral tablets were installed at Fuzhou. An edict restored Lu Yi and Li Hui as academicians and gave them acting charge of the Three Departments and Military Affairs. Tan fell; Wang Yan, Liu Jia, and Zhao Yuzhi died on the wall; Xiang Ziyin broke the gate and fled; the Jin sacked the city and put it to the sword. On bingzi, the Jin drew off Ming and marched back toward Lin'an. On guimao, Chen Xin of the Qian militia besieged the city with tens of thousands; the rebel Hu You struck Qian, broke Xin, and Xin drew off. On jiashen, deserters were forbidden to enlist in other hosts. On bingxu, the Jin left Lin'an; Liu Guangshi was ordered to pursue. On dinghai, Bianjing fell; acting defender Shangguan Wu fled and bandits killed him. On gengyin, the court halted at Wenzhou. Fu Songqing, eastern Zhe defense commissioner, entered Yue. On xinmao, Xiu fell to the Jin. On jiawu, Cheng Changyu of Cai abandoned the city and fled south. Zhong Xiang of Ding rebelled and called himself King of Chu. On yiwei, Du Chong was dismissed. On bingshen, with the Jin gone, the court proclaimed a general amnesty. Commissioner Zhang Jun made Shaanxi commissioner Wang Si prefect of Chengdu. Military circuit judicial intendants were abolished. Li Cheng entered Shu. Jin scouts reached Pingjiang; Zhou Wang fled to Tai Lake; Tang Dongye fled as well. Over two thousand Chaling army-bandits struck Yongxing in Chen. On wuxu, the Jin entered Pingjiang and turned the city to fire and spoil. On xinchou, a white rainbow cut the sun. Zhong Xiang took Li and killed Huang Zong on the wall. Acting Hubei commissioner Fu Song won Kong Yanzhou over; Yanzhou obeyed and was made pursuit commissioner for Hunan and Hubei. Tang Que of Jingnan abandoned the city and fled. Li fell; Wang Shu abandoned the walls. That month commissioner Zhang Jun marched from Qin to reinforce.

Third month, guimao new moon: Kong Yanzhou entered Ding. The Jin left Pingjiang; Chen Sigong with river craft cut their rear at Tai Lake and broke them. Lü Yihao urged a progress into western Zhe. On bingwu, Zhao Ding warned the Jin were still near, and the progress was slowed. On dingwei, the transport office was told to persuade two-Zhe magnates to lend grain for the progress. On xinhai, Feng Kangguo of the War Ministry and others were sent to soothe Jing-Hunan, Hubei, and southern Guang. On renzi, the Jin entered Chang; Zhou Qi abandoned the city. On jiayin, Lu Yi and Imperial Camp controller Xin Qizong were sent to bring the empress dowager east. On bingchen, the Jin struck Zhongnan; commissioner Zheng En was beaten and died. On dingsi, the Jin reached Zhenjiang; Han Shizhong lay at Jiaoshan and struck their line. Attendant officials were each to name one or two men fit for supervisory posts. On xinyou, the imperial fleet left Wenzhou. Pacification controller Li Yunwen brought his host to E. Yang Qin of the Imperial Camp front army rebelled. On jiazi, commissioner Zhang Jun asked to appoint men at discretion without later revision; the court refused. On wuchen, Kong Yanzhou shattered Zhong Xiang, took Xiang and his son Zi'ang, and sent them in the cangue to court. On jisi, Qi Fang took Guangde and killed acting vice prefect Wang Chou.

Fourth month, guiyou: summer tax was remitted for Jiangxi counties torn by soldiers and bandits. On wuyin, Wu Jie met the Jin at Pengyuan in Bin and was broken; Yang Sheng fell. On jimao, Zhu Shengfei of the Literary Hall was made pacification commissioner for Jiangxi and Hunan-Hubei. That day commissioner Zhang Jun reached Fang; hearing the Jin had drawn off, he turned back. On guimao, the court halted at Yue. On jiashen, an edict announced a personal campaign and a tour of western Zhe. Han Shizhong held the Yangzi and cut the Jin retreat, beating them again and again; Wusu drew off toward Jiankang. On yiyou, Zhao Ding was offered Hanlin academician; he firmly declined. Qi Fang besieged Xuan. Liu Guangshi sent Wang De to lure Liu Wenshun out at Rao and kill him. On bingshen, on Zhao Ding's impeachment, Lü Yihao was demoted to Zhennan military commissioner and Lichen Abbey commissioner. The Three Departments and Military Affairs were ordered to report in joint session. Han Shizhong and Wusu fought again on the river; the Jin rode the wind with fire; Shizhong was broken. Wusu crossed the river and camped at Liuhe. On dingyou, Zhao Ding was again made Censor-in-chief. On wuxu, Ming households ravaged by troops were given relief. On jihai, Zhang Jun was made commissioner for western Zhe and Jiangdong. On xinchou, Wang De shattered the demon-bandit Wang Zongshi at Guixi in Xin, took the chiefs, and the counties went quiet. That month Jin raiders in Jiangxi marched north from Jingmen; Niu Gao ambushed them at Baofeng and broke them.

Fifth month, jiachen: Fan Zongyin became Right Vice Director and Imperial Camp commissioner. On xinhai, Red-Heart commander Liu Yan fought Qi Fang at Xuan and was broken and killed. On renzi, the Jin burned Jiankang and carried off Li Zheng and Chen Bangguang. Yue Fei of Huainan pacification intercepted at Jing'an and beat them back. That night a red cloud bridged the Purple Forbidden sky and white vapor ran through it. On guichou, censors and remonstrators were each to name two men they knew. Zhang Shou became associate administrator; Zhao Ding became Secretariat signatory. Thirty thousand taels of silver went to Han Shizhong's army; Sun Shixun, Yan Yongji, Zhang Yuan, and other fallen generals received posthumous ranks. On jiayin, the Jin took Dingyuan and seized Lü Qing; he would not bow and was killed. Ju Shigu fought Qi Fang at Xuan, beat him again and again, and Fang drew off. On yimao, Wang Chao was dismissed. On dingsi, Liu Guangshi was ordered to move troops against Qi Fang. Yang Qin struck Wu. On wuwu, acting vice ministers of the Six Ministries were restored. On guihai, displaced scholars of the central plain and Huainan were allowed to test in whatever county sheltered them. On jiazi, Zhou Wang was dismissed and soon sent to separate service at Heng. Pacification commissioners were set over the capital region, Huainan, Hubei, and western Jingdong. On yichou, Gaoyou army was raised to Cheng prefecture. Nine men became pacification commissioners: Zhai Xing at Henan and Tang; Zhao Li at Chu, Si, and Lianshui; Liu Wei at Chuzhou and Haozhou; Zhao Lin at He and Wuwei; Li Cheng at Shu and Qi; Wu Yi at Guang and Huang; Li Yanxian at Hai and Huaiyang; Xue Qing at Cheng and Tianchang; Meng Ru was named with them. On dingmao, Xue Qing fought the Jin below Cheng and beat them again and again. On wuchen, Jiang and Zhe were ordered to sacrifice for soldiers and people who fell in battle. Eastern and western Jiang were split into E, Jiang, and Chi routes, each with a soothing commissioner. Circuit commanders were no longer made commissioners, nor prefects internal soothing commissioners. That month Liu Chao held Jingnan, raided Xia, and with the rebel Peng Jun struck Fu. The beaten Huai general Cui Zeng seized Jiaohu water fort. Hedong commissioner Wang Jun met the Jin at Xiangcheng, broke them, and retook Yingchang. Commissioner Zhang Jun placed Jin and Fang under Li circuit.

Sixth month, xinwei new moon: lake-field grain was remitted for three Shaoxing counties. Attendants, censors, and generals were summoned to debate where the court should halt. Yang Qin struck Chu. On guiyou, Chen Sigong was sent against Yang Qin. The two Jiang transport offices were merged under one chief commissioner. On jiaxu, Zhou Wang was again demoted to Zhaohua deputy military commissioner and sent to Lian. On yihai, the Imperial Camp office was abolished. Fan Zongyin was also made Military Affairs vice director. On bingzi, Wang Yuan sent Lin Run to pursue Yang Qin at Dongyang; the host was broken and Li Zai fell. On dingchou, Liu Guangshi's troops became the Imperial Front Patrol Guard with Guangshi as overall controller. Yang Qin and his men burned Jian. Qi Fang struck Anji in Hu; Zhang Jun was ordered to take him. On wuyin, the Imperial Front Five Armies became the Divine Martial Army and the Imperial Camp Five Armies the Divine Martial Secondary Army. Quan Bangyan, acting Jiankang prefect, was made Huainan transport-and-dispatch commissioner. Liu Wei, pacification commissioner of Chu and Hao, was killed by Zhang Wenshao; his son Gang inherited the post. On gengchen, six pacification commissioners were named: Chen Gui— De'an, Fu, and Hanyang; Xie Qian—Jingnan, Gui, Xia, Jingmen, and Gong'an; Cheng Changyu—Ding and Li; Chen Qiudao—Xiangyang, Deng, Sui, and Ying; Fan Zhicai—Jin, Jun, and Fang; Feng Changning—Huaining, Shunchang, and Cai. On xinsi, prisoners were reviewed. Offices were again ordered to correct excessive rewards since Chongning. Supernumerary vice-prefects were abolished in every prefecture. On guimao, Liu Guangshi was summoned to court. On jiashen, Yue Fei broke Qi Fang at Guangde. On yiyou, Hu Yuan, a false general of Zhong Xiang, entered Cili, seized fellow conspirator Chen Cheng, and surrendered. On bingxu, Lü Yihao became Jiankang soothing grand commissioner; Liu Guangshi two-Zhe; Zhu Shengfei Jiang route; Guo Zhongwei Zhen and Yang pacification commissioner. Qi Fang came to Zhang Jun and surrendered. On gengyin, Han Shizhong was summoned to bring troops to court. On xinmao, the demon-bandits Wang Zongshi and others were executed. On renchen, Xu Wen, acting Mizhou patrol inspector, led his men across the sea to submit. On jiawu, four Military Affairs staff officers were appointed. On yiwei, Guo Zhongwei struck Zhenjiang; Yue Fei was sent against him. That month, hearing commissioner Zhang Jun was at Qin and meant to march north, Wusu left Liuhe for Shaanxi.

Seventh month, guimao: Liu Guangshi, citing pacification precedent, asked discretionary power; the court refused. An edict ended every prefecture's wartime discretionary command. On yisi, Feng Changning retook Shunchang. Commissioner Zhang Jun dismissed Qu Duan as overall controller. On dingwei, Liu Guangshi became Jiqing military commissioner and Commissioner with Three Excellencies powers. On wushen, Kong Yanzhou was made pacification commissioner for Chen, Yuan, and Jing. Commissioner Zhang Jun presented ten thousand taels of gold for the armies. Pacification sent Lü Shicun and Wang Jun to retake Yan; most counties welcomed them in. Rear-army general Wang Pi rebelled and took Gui; Tian Yougong broke him. On jiyou, Wang Pi struck Fang; Wei Zhiji abandoned the walls. On gengxu, Yang Qin took Liu Guangshi's amnesty, then rebelled again and pressed Quan. On guichou, Cui Zeng struck Taiping; Guo Wei drove him off. On yimao, the Jin moved the two captive emperors from Wuguocheng in Han. Liu Guangshi asked to shift headquarters to Pingjiang; the court refused. On bingchen, Zhang Jun gathered ten thousand men under Qi Fang and others and marched to court. On dingsi, Yuanyou descendants were again told to declare at their prefectures and recover every due favor. Han Shizhong and Zhang Jun were both dismissed. On jiwei, Fujian, Guang, Huai, and Zhe sea merchants were forbidden Shandong trade lest they guide the Jin. Jiang, Zhe, and Fujian were told to persuade great houses to raise militia, hold the passes, and block raiders. On gengshen, Yue Fei was made pacification commissioner of Tong and Tai. On xinyou, Fan Ruwei of Jian rebelled; Li Peng was ordered to take him. On yichou, Li Bangyan and eighteen others below him were restored to office and left at liberty. Li Gang was restored as Silver-Gleam Grandee; Xu Han and Yan Qi as Dragon Hall academicians. Commissioner Zhang Jun sent Qu Duan to reside at Jie. On dingmao, the Jin set up Liu Yu as emperor of Qi. On wuchen, the tea-and-salt arrangement office was abolished. On jisi, Wang Yuan was ordered to camp at Xin. Cheng Changyu sent Du Zhan to take Li Herong at Songzi. That month Zhang Yong held Hanyang; Li Yunwen won him over and made him E-route deputy overall commander; Ma You became Hanyang prefect.

Eighth month, xinwei new moon: Xie Kejia of Rites became associate administrator. On renshen, Li Cheng asked to surrender at Jiang; the court accepted; commissioner Zhang Jun stripped Cheng Qianqiu and sent him to Wen. On guiyou, six hundred Divine Martial middle-army guards were set for rotating palace duty. On jiaxu, one attendant a day was to present precedents bearing on how the realm should be ruled. On dingchou, Han Shizhong became checked Junior Mentor and Wucheng-Gande military commissioner; Zhang Jun checked Junior Guardian and Ningwu-Zhaoqing. Chang Anmin and Jiang Gongwang were posthumously made grand remonstrators; two descendants each were enrolled. On gengchen, the empress dowager arrived from Qian. Xue Qing fought the Jin below Yang and fell. Guo Zhongwei fled to Xinghua. On xinsi, Shen Yuqiu and Ji Ling were dismissed for criticizing Fan Zongyin; Zongyin returned to office. On guimao, Lu Yi was dismissed. Commissioner Zhang Jun retook Yongxing and again demoted Qu Duan to Haizhou deputy training commissioner at Wan. On jiashen, Lei Jin, remnant of Chen Wanxin's party, rebelled. On yiyou, Cili and Shimen were put to the torch. Wang Zeren of the Imperial Camp staff became acting Hedong commissioner; Wei Zhongquan of the mountain forts was overall controller with Song Yongchen and Feng Sai as associates. On bingxu, Li Cheng and Wu Yi were told to hold the upper river; Yi fled; Cheng became four-prefecture pacification commissioner. Li Peng was sent by fast route through Xin to recruit and seize Jin Sai. On wuzi, with Rao and Xin demon-bandits pacified, the two prefectures received amnesty below exile and remission of this year's labor levies. Teng Kang was sent to Yong and Liu Jue to Heng to reside. On jichou, Yue Fei was ordered to relieve Chu; Liu Guangshi was still to send aid. On xinmao, Du Zhan crossed the river against the bandits and retook Shishou and four other counties. On renchen, bandits entered Meizhou, killed defender Shen Tongzhi, and plundered heavily before leaving. On guisi, Fujian pacification commissioner Cheng Mai was ordered to gather troops against Fan Ruwei. On jiawu, Shao Xing of Guo sent overall commander Yan Xing to fight the Jin east of Xie and repeatedly beat them. The Jin took Chengzhou. Chen Sigong was ordered to camp at Mingzhou to guard the sea route. Liu Guangshi sent Wang De and Li Qiong with light troops across the river. On yiwei, Jin scouting cavalry were met at Zhaobo embankment and defeated. On wuxu, Sang Zhong was made pacification commissioner of Xiangyang, Deng, Sui, and E. That month, the Guangxi cave-militia intendant post was abolished. Kong Yanzhao entered Tanzhou; staff planning officer Wang Yining resisted and was beaten; he fled. Staff controller Fu Fu was with Yanzhao’s army and, on his own authority, made Yanzhao acting Hunan deputy overall commander. Liu Gang, short of food, led his men toward Liyang.

Ninth month, xinchou: Lü Yihao had audience and begged reinforcements; Wang Qi, Ju Shigu, and Yan Xiaogong were assigned to him and camped in the circuit. On renyin, each route was ordered to decide criminal cases. On jiachen, Huizong’s empress Zheng died at the Five States Fortress. On wushen, Qinfeng commander Guan Shigu was ordered to lead troops to the mobile court. Liu Yu usurped the throne at Beijing. On gengxu, pacification staff discretion was forbidden, and Jingxi and north Hunan were removed from Sichuan-Shaanxi pacification control. On guichou, Jingyuan co-commander Li Yanqi fought the Jin at Luhe ferry and defeated them. On yimao, Secretariat and Chancellery examining rectifiers were abolished. Sang Zhong took Jun and Fang and advanced on Baitu Pass. On bingchen, left and right secretariat section vice directors were restored to four posts. The Jin attacked Chuzhou; Zhao Li died in defense. On dingsi, Zhao Lin recovered He prefecture. Li Cheng sent Ma Jin against Xingguo commandery. On wuwu, Jing-Xiang bandit Zhao Yanshou attacked De’an; Chen Gui drove him off. On jiwei, Wang Yan, Jin-Jun-Fang pacification commissioner, defeated Sang Zhong at Pingli. Wang Pi went to Yan and surrendered. On xinyou, Li Peng struck Fan Ruwei at Jianzhou; government troops broke; Peng fled. The Jin attacked Yangzhou; overall commander Jin Sai met them at Gang River and defeated them. The Jin took Yan’an, seized Lü Shicun, and also took Bao’an commandery. On guihai, Zhang Jun sent Liu Xi with five-route armies against Lou Su at Fuiping; Jun directed from Binzhou; government troops were routed. On bingyin, Liu Guangshi was given twenty thousand taels of reward silver and twenty thousand bolts of silk. On wuchen, Zhao Yanshou burned E prefecture. The Jin took Chuzhou; pacification commissioner Li Yanxian begged rescue, was beaten, and died.

Tenth month, gengwu new moon: Zhang Jun executed Huanqing commissioner Zhao Zhe at Binzhou, demoted Liu Xi to He prefecture, and ordered commanders back to their routes. Jun withdrew to Qin; Shaanxi was shaken. On xinwei, Qin Hui left Tadun’s Jin army at Chuzhou for the Ding Mizushui stockade in Lianshui commandery. On renshen, Yang Weizhong and Wang Qi were ordered against Li Cheng. On bingzi, Kong Yanzhao was made pacification commissioner of Ding, Li, Chen, Yuan, and Jing. On wuyin, Zhong Xiang’s remnant Yang Hua besieged Taoyuan county. On jimao, Ma Jin attacked Jiang prefecture. On guiwei, Cheng Changyu entered Ding, struck Yang Hua, and defeated him. On jiashen, Liu Guangshi was urgently ordered to rescue Chuzhou. On dinghai, Li Hui became associate military affairs commissioner. On gengyin, former Censorate investigating rectifier Xie Xiang was sent to win over Fan Ruwei. Zhang Jun was summoned to bring troops in relief. Li Bangyan was posthumously restored as Literary Hall grand academician. On xinmao, Ganzhou bandit Li Dunren and his brother Shixiong took Shicheng county in Ganzhou. On jiawu, Yang Weizhong was ordered to camp at Jiang prefecture. On yiwei, Yue Fei defeated the Jin at Chengzhou. On bingshen, Liu Guangshi was to control garrisons, hold Tong and Tai, and strike Jin crossing the Huai when he could. That month, Feng Changning abandoned his post; soon Huaining went to Liu Yu. Jiangdong bandit Zhang Qi attacked Jiankang; Liu Hongdao won his surrender. Huanqing overall commander Mu Wei rebelled and joined Xia. Jingyuan commander Zhang Zhongyan and staff controller Zhao Bin rebelled and surrendered to the Jin. Liu Zhong held Bai Mian Mountain in Yue’s Pingjiang county. Wang Shan’s remnant Zhu You gathered rebels at Gong Family City in Chuzhou.

Eleventh month, guimao: Mu Wei then led Jin troops to besiege Huan. Lü Yihao recovered Nankang commandery. On jiachen, Zhao Ding was dismissed. On yisi, Qin Hui had audience. On bingwu, Yue Fei abandoned Taizhou and crossed the river. On dingwei, the Jin attacked Taizhou; Fei withdrew to the sands of Jiangyin commandery. Investigating censor-in-chief Fu Zhirou signed military affairs; Qin Hui became Rites minister. Li Yunwen killed Yue defender Yuan Zhi. Lü Yihao and Yang Weizhong fought Ma Jin at Nankang with poor result. On wushen, Yihao sent Ju Shigu to rescue Jiang; Jin beat him and he fled to Hong. The Jin took Jingyuan; commissioner Liu Qi withdrew to Wating. On jiwei, Kong Yanzhao became Hunan deputy overall commander and camped at Tanzhou. On gengxu, Divine Martial deputy commander Xin Qizong was ordered against Fan Ruwei. On renzi, the winter solstice, officials bowed to the two emperors from afar. On yimao, Military Affairs staff officers became planning officers. On bingchen, the Jin took Taizhou. On dingsi, Tong defender Lü Shen abandoned the city. Wang Yan attacked Sang Zhong at Huangshui, defeated him, and Fang was pacified. Zhang Jun made Yan pacification commissioner of Jin, Jun, and Fang. Cui Zeng attacked Chi; Liu Hongdao sent Li Gui to drive him off; Zeng came with ten thousand men to surrender to Lü Yihao. On jiazi, route defenders were ordered to control troops in their jurisdictions. On bingyin, Jin-Fang bandit Guo Xi attacked Gui; Tian Yougong repelled him. Wang Qi was ordered to lead ten thousand men in rapid relief of Lü Yihao. Zhu You crossed the river and plundered heavily. That month, Zhang Jun withdrew to Xing; Qinfeng deputy commander Wu Jie held Heshang Plain east of Dasanguan. Transport commissioners were ordered to requisition temple and monastery rents and reed grounds for three years.

Twelfth month, gengwu: Annan asked to present tribute; the court declined. On xinwei, Han Qiu was sent to tally Rao, Xin, and other prefectures; all Jiang, Hu, Sichuan, and Guang upper tribute was seized. On renshen, Kong Yanzhao was ordered to relieve Jiang prefecture. On bingzi, troop controllers were forbidden to act at discretion. On dingchou, Ma Jin split troops to attack Hong prefecture.
