In spring of the fifth year, on the first month's xinchou day, Remonstrating Censor Xie Kuoran asked that officials be warned not to recruit examination candidates according to the doctrines of Cheng Yi or Wang Anshi. The request was granted. On the guimao day, special exemptions for court officials and for temples and monasteries from corvée levies were revoked. On the gengxu day, a violent windstorm struck. On the jiwei day, an edict directed attendant officials, the censorate and remonstrance bureau, and Two Department officials to meet and discuss the official performance evaluation law.

In the second month, on the jisi day, poll-tax offices were set up in prefectures and counties. On the xinwei day, the regulations governing military officials' presentation examinations were strictly reinforced. An edict forbade the Two Guang circuits from using acting officials to hear legal cases. On the dingchou day, the entry of Jie salt into the Jingxi circuit was banned. On the jiashen day. Dust fell from the sky like rain. On the gengyin day, the tribal peoples of Weizhou raided the frontier; government forces attacked them until they surrendered.

In the third month, on the dingwei day, Li Yanying was removed from office. Land was allotted to the blade-and-crossbow militia of Chen, Yuan, Li, and Jing prefectures. On the renzi day, Shi Hao was made Right Chief Minister. On the dingsi day, the emperor visited Jade Ford Garden. On the jiwei day, Wang Huai was appointed to manage the Bureau of Military Affairs, and Zhao Xiong was made Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs. That spring, the tribal peoples of Lizhou came forward and surrendered.

In summer, on the fourth month's new moon day yichou, Ye Heng was permitted to live wherever he wished. On the bingyin day, Minister of Rites Fan Chengda was appointed Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs. On the xinwei day, Zhang Jin, prefect of Shaoxing, forwarded four hundred thousand strings of surplus revenue; an edict applied it toward half the people's state-purchase and poll-tax obligations. Four hundred seventeen Ministry of Rites metropolitan graduates, beginning with Yao Ying, were granted pass grades and formal status. On the dingchou day, dust fell from the sky like rain. On the jimao day, because Zhao Si had conducted his embassy in a manner unbecoming protocol, he was dismissed as Attendant Archivist and demoted two ranks. On the dinghai day, the Rear Secretariat was ordered to choose from domestic and foreign memorials proposals on public benefit and harm that did not violate established law and report them upward.

In the fifth month, on the gengzi day, imperial-student places at the Military Academy were established. On the dingwei day, the walls of Lin'an Prefecture were repaired. It was forbidden for circuit prefectures and garrisons to compel subordinate counties to forward surplus tribute.

In the sixth month, on the gengwu day, all officials and circuit supervisory commissioners were warned not to solicit favors. On the yihai day, Fan Chengda was removed from office. On the guiwei day, an edict imposed the death penalty on Jingxi and Hubei merchants who used oxen and horses to carry tea out of the country. On the jiashen day, an edict required each Hanlin academician, Remonstrance Bureau grandee, Investigating Censor, Secretariat Drafter, and Attending Censor to nominate two men qualified to serve as investigating censors. Investigating Censor Qian Liangchen was appointed to sign documents for the Bureau of Military Affairs. On the jichou day, privately established tax stations in the prefectures were abolished. Sichuan's tea levy was cut by more than one hundred fifty thousand strings of cash. On the gengyin day, more than thirty-nine thousand strings of fines owed to the Court of Judicial Review were remitted.

In the intercalary month, on the bingshen day, posthumous offices were granted to Qiang Ni and Qiang Zhen; a temple was built in Xihe Prefecture and given the name Manifest Loyalty. On the dingyou day, limits were placed on the volume of huizi notes issued by the Sichuan overall manager. On the wuxu day, the garrison farmland troops of the Xingzhou commander-in-chief's office were disbanded, and civilians were recruited to farm the land as tenants. On the jihai day, Lizhou East and West circuits were again split into two circuits. On the renyin day, transfer granaries were established at Zhenjiang and Jiankang prefectures. Gong Maoliang died at Yingzhou. On the yisi day, Prince of Wei Zhao Kai was again appointed Military Commissioner of the Yongxing and Chengde armies, Governor of Yongzhou, and Administrator of Mingzhou, as before. On the gengxu day, the bolt-silk conversion payments owed by the people of Xiuzhou were remitted.

In autumn, the seventh month, on the jiazi day, Grand Marshal and Director of the Longevity Abbey Li Xianzhong died. On the guiwei day, debased sand-furred coin was banned. On the dinghai day, because the harvest was abundant, the Yangzi provinces were ordered to buy 1.6 million shi of rice to enlarge frontier reserves.

In the eighth month, on the jiawu day, an edict warned circuit supervisory commissioners to instruct their jurisdictions not to force grain tax payments into cash at inflated conversion rates. The former regulations for the special examination category were restored. On the dingyou day, an edict ordered the four prefectures beyond the pass to recruit additional militia into the Loyal-and-Brave Army. On the wuwu day, the qualification examination was expanded to five sessions and the presentation examination to four.

In the ninth month, on the jiazi day, rewards and penalties for Guangxi salt sales were established. On the renshen day, the emperor visited the Secretariat Archives. On the wuyin day, Yue Fei was granted the posthumous title Martial and Solemn.

In winter, the tenth month, on the wuxu day, Shi Hao and others presented the 《Genealogical Compendium of the Sixth Generation below the Three Ancestors》 and the 《Imperial Register of Emperor Renzong》. On the gengzi day, Yuwen Jia and others were sent as envoys to Jin to congratulate the New Year. On the xinhai day, Jin dispatched Zhang Jiusi and others to congratulate the Joint Celebration Festival. On the yimao day, Military Commissioner of Fengguo Army and Palace Front commander-in-chief Wang Youzhi, because the troops he recruited had harassed the people, was demoted to Military Commandant of Wuning Army, stripped of his army command, and regimental commanders and below were reduced in rank to varying degrees. Soldiers and civilians who raised an uproar were seized and sent to the Court of Judicial Review for trial. On the wuwu day, Sun You, Grand General of the Right Thousand-Ox Guard, was made Observation Commissioner of Mingzhou and enfeoffed as Duke of Ying.

In the eleventh month, on the bingyin day, an edict ordered that soldiers and civilians who raised a clamor alike be punished under military law. Shi Hao argued that civilians should not be judged under military law, but the emperor would not listen. Wang Youzhi was demoted again to Observation Commissioner of Yizhou and ordered to reside at Xinzhou. Hao asked to resign from government. On the jiaxu day, Hao was dismissed and made Junior Tutor, restored to his former command, and appointed Commissioner of Liquor Spring Abbey with concurrent duty as imperial reader. On the yihai day, Qian Liangchen was appointed Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs. On the dingchou day, Zhao Xiong was made Right Chief Minister and Wang Huai Military Affairs Commissioner. On the wuyin day, one thousand garrison troops from the Two Sichuan circuits were formed into the Chengdu Frontier Army. On the gengchen day, the mutual oversight law for circuit supervisory commissioners was restored. In the twelfth month, on the new moon day gengyin, the newly fixed recommendation formats were promulgated. On the xinmao day, Qian Chongzhi and others were sent to congratulate the Jin ruler on his birthday. On the dingyou day, the garrison farmland troops of the Xingyuan commander-in-chief's office were disbanded, and civilians were recruited to farm the land as tenants. On the xinchou day, the Tong'an and Qichun salt offices were restored. On the bingwu day, copper coin was banned in the Two Huai regions and iron coin was put back into circulation. On the bingchen day, Jin dispatched Wuyancha and others to congratulate the coming New Year. That year, Jie and Xinghua Military Prefecture in Fujian were flooded, and field mice damaged the grain crop in Tong, Tai, Chuzhou, and Gaoyou Military Prefecture. The state of Srivijaya sent tribute.

In spring of the sixth year, on the first month's wuchen day, famine victims in eastern Huai were relieved. On the gengwu day, the Palace Domestic Service contract and credential office was re-established. On the renshen day, the gold and silver tribute from the Kuizhou circuit was remitted. On the dingchou day, hail fell. On the xinsi day, the Zhongdu licensed market at Guangzhou was restored.

In the second month, on the new moon day jichou, the emperor visited You Sheng Abbey and summoned Shi Hao and Zeng Di to be granted wine. On the renchen day, Qian Liangchen was stripped of three ranks for having failed to expose a corrupt clerk. On the bingshen day, an edict allowed former chief ministers and attendant officials who had proposals of their own on beneficial measures to report them at any time. On the xinchou day, regulations were established for military officials' promotion through inherited privilege. On the bingwu day, an edict ordered that deserters who committed robbery were not to be considered for leniency. On the guichou day. An order required prefectures and counties not to obstruct voluntary labor service. On the yimao day, an edict required that from now on restored officials must personally go to the ministry to receive appointments, in order to curb fraudulent abuse. On the dingsi day, the special imperial-name examination regulations were revised.

In the third month, on the gengshen day, the emperor visited Prospect Gathering Garden. On the bingyin day, the descendants of Zhao Ding and Yue Fei were entered on the rolls and granted capital appointments. On the jisi day, the bandit Chen Dong and others of Chenzhou overran counties in Lian, Dao, and Guiyang Military Prefectures; the Hunan commander was ordered to pursue and capture them. Charity granaries were established in Guangxi. On the xinwei day, famine victims in eastern Huai were relieved again. On the renshen day, hail fell. On the dingchou day, an edict admonished and encouraged the transport commissioners of the various circuits. On the gengchen day, the emperor visited Jade Ford Garden. In summer, the fifth month, on the renxu day, the regulations on office exchanges for imperial clansmen were revised. On the gengwu day, one hundred thousand strings of Sichuan's salt levy were remitted. On the yihai day, the Chenzhou rebels were pacified. On the guiwei day, farmland was allotted to the loyal-and-righteous repatriates at Xiangyang.

In the sixth month, on the jiawu day, the Abundant Storage granary was built. On the bingshen day, an edict forbade appointing special imperial-name graduates as prefects or county magistrates. On the wuxu day, half the year's corvée payments owed by Chenzhou grain-transport laborers were remitted. On the xinhai day, the Guangxi sorcerer-rebel Li Jie overran Yulin Prefecture; defending official Li Duanqing abandoned the city and fled, then laid siege to Huazhou. The Pacification Commission was ordered to pursue and capture them. Duanqing was stripped of name and office, dismissed, and placed under supervised residence at Meizhou.

In autumn, the seventh month, on the guihai day, surrendered Chenzhou bandits were registered. They were assigned to the Jing and E armies. On the wuchen day, the 《Edicts of Clemency since Longxing》 were promulgated to the circuits. Zhao Xiong and others presented the 《Institutional Compendium》. On the yihai day, an edict ordered additional cash grants for army households of five members or more. On the guiwei day, Venus was visible in daylight and traversed the sky.

In the eighth month, on the gengyin day, the discretionary authority of circuit supervisory commissioners and military prefects was abolished. On the renyin day, Zhai Tian, prefect of Chuzhou, for causing trouble by crossing the Huai, was stripped of five ranks and ordered to reside at Yunzhou.

In the ninth month, on the xinwei day, Heaven and Earth were jointly sacrificed at the Bright Hall and a general amnesty was proclaimed. On the guiwei day, an edict forbade Fujian and the Two Guang from unilaterally raising their former salt-sale quotas.

In winter, on the tenth month's new moon day yiyou, rent and tax owed by the people of Lianzhou who had suffered bandit raids were remitted. On the xinmao day, Chen Xian and others were sent as envoys to Jin to congratulate the New Year. On the bingshen day, an edict granted imperial-academy double-excellence graduates office at first appointment with the same privileges as the second-place palace examination graduate. On the gengzi day, Sichuan put the large three-cash coin into circulation. Sichuan's salt levy was again cut by more than one hundred seventy thousand strings of cash. On the xinchou day, more than fifty thousand strings of tax arrears owed by the people of Shaoxing Prefecture were cancelled. On the yisi day, Jin dispatched Pucha Dingshou and others to congratulate the Joint Celebration Festival. On the wushen day, the Guangxi sorcerer-rebels were pacified.

On the eleventh month's new moon day yimao, the emperor wrote a discourse of several hundred words probing the defects in how men were employed and extending to the methods of punishment and reward, and ordered the chief ministers to show it to attendant officials in the Executive Hall. On the xinyou day, the examination regulations for imperial clansmen were revised. On the wuyin day, the Jinzhou intra-circuit pacification commission was abolished. On the renwu day, an edict allowed clansmen with formal status to take examinations and receive appointments, including instructor posts. On the guiwei day, Fu Qi and others were sent to congratulate the Jin ruler on his birthday. In the twelfth month, on the bingxu day, the 《Revised Chunxi Statutes, Commands, and Formats》 were promulgated. On the bingshen day, the digest law for the hundred offices was revised. On the jihai day, an edict ordered that from now on, when trying corrupt officials, even if the offenders were later pardoned, trial officials were not to be punished for wrongful conviction. On the gengxu day, Jin dispatched Yelü Zhao and others to congratulate the coming New Year. On the xinhai day, Lin'an Prefecture's levied taxes were remitted for one year. That year, Wen and Taizhou were flooded, and Hezhou suffered drought.

In spring of the seventh year, on the first month's jiazi day, the annual salt-sale quotas of Guangxi prefectures were reduced. On the yichou day, Liu Hun, for merit in pacifying Li Jie, was promoted to Compiler at the Hall for Advancing Excellence; generals, aides, staff, and clerks received promotions and reduced merit-review years to varying degrees. On the jimao day, an edict ordered Jingxi prefectures and garrisons to use both iron coin and huizi notes; households' copper coin was to be redeemed in iron coin or huizi notes; those who failed to surrender it to the government within two months could be reported for reward. On the gengchen day, eastern Huai people's loans of Ever-Normal granary cash and grain were remitted.

In the second month, on the new moon day guiwei, medical officers were first established in the miasmic prefectures of southern Guang. On the bingxu day, the elementary-school instructor for the Heir Apparent's palace was re-established. On the xinmao day, Prince of Wei Zhao Kai died. On the yiwei day, an edict assigned five hundred Guangxi military clerks to the judicial-intendant office. On the wuxu day, the Guazhou horse-breeding stud was abolished. On the jihai day, one hundred thousand shi of stored grain from Hunan was released to relieve and sell grain in Yong, Shao, and Chenzhou. On the jiachen day, prefects, vice-prefects, and county magistrates of Lizhou Circuit were ordered to oversee garrison farmland concurrently. On the yisi day, a limit was set that no more than eighty officials per year might change office by special procedure. Zhao Dong was enfeoffed as Observation Commissioner of Yizhou and Prince of Anding Commandery.

In the third month, on the renxu day, an edict called for recommendations of worthy and upright men able to speak bluntly and remonstrate forcefully. On the gengwu day, the Retired Emperor and Retired Empress were received for a banquet at Emerald Cold Hall. On the yihai day, the number of recommendation slots for inner- and outer-court officials was reduced. On the dingchou day, Lin'an Prefecture people's poll-tax payments were again remitted for three years; an edict ordered the prefectures to recruit replacements for vacancies in military registers, making this regular practice from this year onward.

In summer, the fourth month, on the jiashen day, the emperor visited Prospect Gathering Garden. On the bingxu day, Zhao Xiong and others presented the imperial registers of Emperors Renzong and Zhezong. On the wuzi day, one hundred fifty thousand strings of long-overdue payments owed by Mingzhou to the various offices were cancelled. On the xinmao day, frontier repatriates who had requested official farmland were again exempted from tax and corvée for three years. On the jiachen day, the Five Tribes of Lizhou attacked Pantuo Stockade; Military Inspector Gao Huang fought them with three thousand troops from Mian and Tong, was defeated and fled, and the tribes penetrated deep, plundered heavily, and withdrew. On the jiyou day, appointees by inherited privilege, military-examination graduates, imperial clansmen, and junior commissioners were ordered to observe three-year mourning.

In the fifth month, on the wuchen day, Minister of Personnel Zhou Bida was appointed Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs, and Minister of Justice Xie Kuoran was appointed to sign documents for the Bureau of Military Affairs. Fenyi County in Yuanzhou suffered severe flooding, and its taxes were remitted. On the wuyin day, an edict set the annual coin-casting quota for Shu and Qi prefectures at four hundred fifty thousand strings. On the jimao day, the prohibition on bookshops' unauthorized printing of books was strictly reinforced. On the gengchen day, an edict forbade appointing special imperial-name graduates aged sixty or older as county constables.

In the sixth month, on the bingxu day, Special Courtier, Grand Academician of the Hall for Viewing Culture, and Administrator of Jiankang Chen Junqing was made Junior Guardian. On the renchen day, the Five Tribes again attacked Lizhou; Pacification Commission Controller Cheng Guangyan was defeated, many government troops were killed, and Judicial Intendant and Acting Prefect Zhe Zhichang abandoned the city and fled. On the jiawu day, the Pacification Commission reinforced its troops and dispatched Tea-and-Horse Overall Commissioner Wu Zong to pacify them. On the renyin day, an edict ordered judicial officials under examination to add a test in classical meaning.

In autumn, the seventh month, on the guichou day, an edict ordered military commanders and supervisory commissioners of the Two Guang to investigate the merit and faults of prefectural officials under them and report upward. On the dingmao day, because of drought, detained prisoners were judged and ministers were separately ordered to pray for rain at mountains and rivers. On the renshen day, the Guangxi judicial-intendant office was moved to Yulin Prefecture.

In the eighth month, on the guiwei day, Lizhou officials were forbidden to buy goods from tribal merchants. On the jiashen day, because prayers for rain had gone unanswered, the emperor told the chief ministers that he wished officials with substantive duties and above each to submit sealed memorials on public affairs. That evening, rain fell. On the dingyou day, the Flying Tiger Army of Hunan was established. On the wuxu day, rain fell. On the jiachen day, the Five Tribes attacked the Lizhou frontier pass; Left Army Commander Wang Que of Xingzhou repelled them, and Zhe Zhichang heavily bribed the tribes until they submitted.

In the ninth month, on the guihai day, an edict ordered that from now on at regular court audiences the chief minister's name was not to be spoken aloud. On the jiazi day, the Military Affairs Commissioner was ordered to be treated likewise. On the yichou day, an edict regulated mourning favors for chief ministers and commissioners with ceremonial seals, reducing the years counted for attendant-service and forbidding collection of attendant-service for those dead three years or more. On the bingyin day, an edict allowed prefectural magistrates who had completed their probation to receive recommendations from supervisory commissioners. On the renshen day, the circuits were forbidden to obstruct grain purchases. On the guiyou day, the digest law was named the 《Chunxi Revised Digest of the Hundred Offices》.

In winter, the tenth month, on the bingxu day, an edict stated: "The land limits are too broad and the people's corvée burdens too heavy; let the censorate, remonstrance bureau, and investigating censors together with the senior and junior ministers of the Household Section deliberate in detail and report upward." On the wuzi day, Ye Hong and others were sent as envoys to Jin to congratulate the New Year. On the yiwei day, the Five Tribes of Lizhou presented horses and sought to submit; an edict declined the horses but permitted border trade. On the gengzi day, Jin dispatched Li Yi and others to congratulate the Joint Celebration Festival.

In the eleventh month, on the guichou day, an edict ordered frontier officials to care for famine victims from Jiangxi crossing the Huai. On the dingsi day, the various offices and prefectures of Huainan were forbidden to force allocation of wine levies on the people. On the xinyou day, the two tax payments of the Two Huai prefectures and garrisons were remitted for one year. On the guihai day, Lizhou garrison soldiers Wu Jin and others mutinied; Zhe Zhichang fled, and Wang Que lured Jin and the others out and had them executed. On the renshen day, Nankang Military Prefecture suffered drought; an edict ordered ten thousand shi of seed grain remaining from inspection and release to be issued as army provisions. On the guiyou day. Gai Jing and others were sent to congratulate the Jin ruler on his birthday. In the twelfth month, on the gengyin day, Zhao Xiong and others presented the 《National History Monographs》 of the four reigns of Emperors Shenzong, Zhezong, Huizong, and Qinzong. On the renchen day, because Sichuan Pacification Commissioner Hu Yuanzhi had failed to prepare against the tribal departments and allowed them to run rampant, he was stripped of two ranks and dismissed. On the bingshen day, Heir to Prince of Pu Zhao Shiyu died. On the wuxu day, the newly appointed Judicial Intendant of Chengdu Circuit Lu Dongzhi was given acting authority over the Sichuan Pacification Commission to handle Lizhou frontier affairs and take measures as circumstances required. On the guimao day, an edict ordered Lin'an Prefecture, when receiving and proclaiming imperial edicts, to examine and memorialize according to former practice. On the jiachen day, Jin dispatched Tushan Shousu and others to congratulate the coming New Year. That month, noting that the Retired Emperor would turn seventy-five the following year, the court proposed longevity-celebration rites; the Retired Emperor declined, and the Emperor presented two thousand taels of gold in congratulation. That year drought struck Jiang, Zhe, Huai West, and Hubei; the government remitted rents, opened granaries for loans and distribution, pressed prefectures and counties to clear court dockets, and recruited wealthy households to organize relief in exchange for official posts. Despite the year's disasters, no mass famine migration occurred. Annam sent tribute.

In spring of the eighth year, on the first month's jiayin day, Zhe Zhichang was removed from office and ordered to live in exile at Tingzhou. On the bingchen day, an edict required eunuch attendants who held military commissions to be transferred to capital temple-and-abbey sinecures, and the rule was codified. On the yihai day, an edict directed Fujian to set aside salt each year for Shaowu Army to buy military grain.

In the second month, on the renwu day, an edict ordered last year's drought-hit prefectures and counties to issue charity-granary rice daily to the poor through mid-leap third month. At Lizhou, native militiamen led by Zhang Baixiang rebelled under the burden of corvée levies; Commander Liu Danian led troops to counterattack, the militia broke and fled, and Liu Danian was put to death. On the wuzi day, drought-driven polder reclamation by people in Western Zhe was banned. The regulations governing child examinations were revised downward. On the jichou day, Guangxi prefectures were forbidden to force saltern households to buy salt under levy. On the gengyin day, an edict required the Three Departments, Bureau of Military Affairs, and Six Ministries to maintain registers and review measures that advanced public benefit or removed public harm. On the wuxu day, Military Commissioner of Baokang Army Zhao Shixin was installed as Heir to Prince of Pu.

In the third month, on the month's dingwei day, the emperor visited You Sheng Abbey. On the wuwu day, with the Chaozhou rebel Shen Shi in revolt, route commanders and surveillance commissioners were urgently ordered to arrest him. On the xinwei day, the emperor visited Prospect Gathering Garden. In the intercalary month, on the xinsi day, route commanders and supervisory commissioners were ordered to rank their prefectures and commanderies in three grades of merit and submit the lists at year's end. On the wuzi day, Huang You of the Ministry of Rites and three hundred seventy-nine others received jinshi degrees and originations. On the gengyin day, Yangzhou's city walls were repaired. On the jiawu day, the emperor visited Jade Ford Garden. On the renyin day, building-lease taxes in the capital and on all circuits were cut by thirty percent; shortfalls at Deshou Palace were to be made up each month from the southern treasury. Government salt sales in Tan, Dao, and other prefectures were banned. On the jiachen day, a law governing succession by appointment within the imperial clan was enacted.

In summer, the fourth month, on the guichou day, city walls throughout Hunan were repaired. On the bingchen day, with plague in Lin'an, medical officers were sent out separately to treat soldiers and civilians. On the gengshen day, convicted robbers were again assigned to heavy labor in the guard armies. On the dingmao day, Prince of Anding Commandery Zhao Dong died. On the guiyou day, county schools were founded at Yizhang in Chenzhou and Linwu in Guiyang Army to educate tribal youth from the dong communities.

In the fifth month, on the wuyin day, an edict ordered circuit supervisors and prefectural and county officials to promote farming and sericulture, with rewards and punishments tied to how diligently they did so. On the renwu day, an edict directed circuit transport commissioners to press the people to repair and update land-boundary registers. On the xinmao day, after prolonged rain, sentences in the capital region and the Two Zhes were reduced one degree; those punishable only by the cane were released, and the poor were lent money for rice seed. On the renyin day, Shi Hao was appointed Junior Preceptor.

On the jiayin day, unallocated regulatory funds in Shi and Qian prefectures were forgiven. Attendants were ordered each to recommend two or three members of the imperial clan. On the guihai day, an edict set circuit merit-and-fault reports due by month's end in the third month, and Sichuan and the Two Guang by month's end in the fifth month.

On the jichou day, Lin'an and Shaoxing prisoners had sentences reduced one grade; those liable to beating or less were freed, and corvée taxes were waived for people serving on the coffining hall. On the gengyin day, per Censor Leng Shiguang's memorial, further deliberation on associate enshrinement was halted. The empress dowager ordered that the emperor visit Deshou Palace four times a month, as before.

Vice Minister Lin Li impeached Xi for tardiness in taking office; Xi asked to hold a sinecure temple post instead. Grandee of Ceremonies academician expositor Ye Shi contended that Li had taken up the arguments of Wang Huai, Zheng Bing, and Chen Jia, branding men under the label "Way Learning" and wantonly removing upright officials. An edict still ordered Xi to take up the Jiangxi post; Xi firmly declined and did not go. On the gengyin day, Mars trespassed into the Supreme Palace Enclosure.

On the wuzi day, Jin sent Tian Yangao and others to congratulate the coming new year. That year, floods struck Jiangxi, Hubei, the Two Huai, Jianning Prefecture, and Huizhou.

In the eleventh month, on the yimao day, he was provisionally entombed at Yongfu Mausoleum. In the twelfth month, on the jiaxu day, he was enshrined in the Imperial Ancestral Temple.
