On the day jiayin, a broom star appeared in Well and Ghost, as large as a cup and bluish-white in color, with rays more than four feet long. It passed through the Five Feudal Lords and Five Chariots and entered Shen, and after more than thirty days in all it set.

It passed through Purple Palace, Three Steps, and Charioteer, moving rapidly west to Seven Stars, and set after thirty-seven days in all.

In the third month of the third year of the Zhiping era, on the day jiwei, a comet emerged in Encampment. Seen at dawn in the east, it was about seven feet long and pointed southwest toward Rooftop and Tomb and Graves. Moving gradually east with increasing speed, it drew near the sun and concealed itself. On the day xinsi it was seen in the southwest at dusk. To the north was a star with no cometary rays; farther east, a separate white vapor about three feet wide pierced Purple Palace's Pole Star and Room, both ends entering the turbid zone. Moving farther east, it passed through Literary Glory and pierced the tail of the Northern Dipper. On the day renwu the star again showed cometary rays, more than one zhang long and over three feet wide, pointing northeast. It passed through Five Chariots, while the white vapor forked across the sky, piercing Northern River, Five Feudal Lords, Charioteer, the Five Feudal Lords within the Five Emperors' Seat of Supreme Palace, and the lodges Horn, Neck, Base, and Room. On the day guiwei the comet was one zhang and five feet long, and the star's cometary vapor resembled a one-sheng measure. It passed from the Encampment lodge to Extended Net—a total of fourteen lodges over sixty-seven days—until the star's vapors and broom tail all vanished.

On the day wuxu it was seven feet long and slanted toward Left Yoke. By the day dingwei it had entered the turbid zone and was no longer visible.

Its white vapor was one zhang long, slanting toward the southeast within the Chariot Shaft lodge-degree. On the day bingxu it traveled northwest, within the Wings lodge-degree. On the day wuzi it was three feet long and obliquely pierced the Gentleman-in-Waiting Seat. On the day guimao it encroached upon Charioteer, and by the day dingyou it had entered the turbid zone and was no longer visible. On the morning of the day gengzi it reappeared within the Extended Net lodge-degree. By the day wuzi, after thirty-six days in all, it set and was no longer visible.

In the fourth month of the fifteenth year of the Shaoxing era, on the day wuyin, a comet appeared in the east. On the day bingshen it reappeared within the Three Stars lodge-degree. In the fifth month on the day dingsi it transformed into a guest star, bluish-white in color. On the day renxu it remained at Extended Net, and it did not finally dissipate until the day dinghai in the sixth month. In the eleventh month of the sixteenth year of the Shaoxing era, on the day gengyin, a comet appeared southwest at Rooftop. In the seventh month of the twenty-sixth year of the Shaoxing era, on the day bingwu, a comet appeared at Eastern Well, about one zhang long with rays two feet long. On the day guichou it again encroached upon Five Feudal Lords. In the sixth month of the thirty-first year of the Shaoxing era, on the day jisi, a comet appeared northeast of the Northern Dipper's Balance star. The Grand Clerk wrongly identified it as Holding Glory.

On the day wuxu it was within the Three Stars lodge-degree. At the end of the eighth month its rays diminished slightly, and after four months in all it vanished.
